To everyone watching, this had to be the most ridiculous battle they'd seen so far. A total joke of a match-up. A six versus one bout between Killian's devious rats and whatever Jayden brought to withstand them. [break][break][break]

Absurd? Certainly. Easy? Hardly. [break][break]

Lined up side by side, the five black Rattata stood on their hind legs at the ready. Behind them sat the Director, a rotund Alolan Raticate. He wiggled his tush deep into the sand, an unlit cigar protruding from his mouth. "Cate." he squeaked, taking two 'drags' from his prop.[break][break]

"You remember the rules, correct?" the admin slid his hands into his pockets. "Defeat the Director, and the win is yours." Killian nods to Jayden from across the battlefield. "Since the odds are stalked against you. It's only fair that you get the first move." a confident, cocky smile sprawls across his face.[break][break]

"Make it a good one."

It might have been ridiculous to anyone else, but it was not so to Jayden.

[break][break] After all, the boy did not take anything in regards to Rocket lightly. But especially when one of the organization's esteemed Admins called upon him. Training session or not, Jayden would take this seriously.

[break][break] "Of course, sir." He dipped his head in respect, eyes shifting towards the largest of the group. A giant Raticate stood in the center of the rest of them, popping a cigar. The sight would almost be comical for anyone else.

[break][break] Reaching into his pelt, Jayden's first pokemon of choice was his Torterra. The green behomoth let out a mighty roar as she materialized into air, the ground thudding with the weight of her. "Helena," he asserted, pointing towards the center of the mass of sprawling Rattata. "There is your target."

[break][break] "Separate them."

[break][break] With another gallant cry, the pokemon's body glowed with the power of EARTHQUAKE. The ground rumbled and cracked beneath them, attempting to tear the Rattata away from their king.

The ground trembled with a powerful Earthquake that damaged all but one of the Rattata. A tiny thing that had the ends of her mustache curled. Hence her nickname, Curly. She used Protect to shield herself from harm. [break][break]

Aside from Curly, the rest of the swarm had their upper bodies buried inside the sand, scattered about the battlefield. They wiggled themselves free, patting golden grains from their ears.[break][break]

Squeaking loudly, Director searched around for a particular Rattata. Beady eyes fell upon his target, located not too far from Torterra's right. He hurled his cigar at the rat, smacking it in the side of the head.[break][break]

Larry, the one hit, rubbed at his cheek and squeaked angrily. Pulled from the script of an old Disney cartoon, the Director and Larry bickered back and forth. A series of heated squeaks containing all manner of obscene language filled the air. The surrounding Rattata looked uncomfortable.[break][break]

The Director's Scary Face eventually drew Larry to silence. [break][break]

Whatever they'd been arguing about settled, Larry sighed. His black beads narrowed nervously on Torterra. "Tata" mouth opened wide, a chilling ray of frost fired out. Ice Beam soared above the ocean of golden grains at Torterra.[break][break]

Another Rattata, Shemp, charged Torterra head-on. Shemp leaped into the air, tail shining like steel against the afternoon sun. He attempted to bring Iron Tail crashing down onto Torterra's head.

an awkward silence fills the air as jayden and his torterra watch the raticate and rattata squabble amongst themselves. in-fighting.

[break][break] jayden's gaze does not waver from the one hit.

[break][break] dmitri had once struck him, just like that, but it wasn't without need. there had been countless other rockets too, all known to discipline the recruits, by any means necessary — as long as it meant fealty to the organization.

[break][break] cold crackles through the air as an ice beam from the other spirals forth. ice crystals form beneath helena's limbs — it freezes her in place, though not completely. "try and break free," jayden commands. there's not much that can be done at the moment, however, as the torterra roars with frustration.

[break][break] it makes her the perfect sitting duck for the smaller rattata's attack, who comes leaping through the air with an iron tail.

[break][break] "look up!"

[break][break] the pain of an iron-hard tail singes her cheek, but helena twists her head violently. she opens her maws, attempting to clench down on the air-born rattata with crunch.

Curly tensed, frowned and then sighed. Stupid, totally stupid. The slump of Curly's shoulders straightened out as she rose to two legs. Batting her eyes flirtatiously, she sauntered toward Torterra. A rat attracting a tortoise. Ridiculous.

Well, attract had failed, but they'd at least gotten Shemp free. The Rattata tumbled through the sand, coming to a stop next to Raticate's side.[break][break]

Shemp has fainted and is unable to battle!

Only 4 Rattata remained in the way of Jayden and his goal. It was time that Killian took things seriously.[break][break]

Giga Drain failed to connect. A large dome of energy erected around Curly Protects her from harm.[break][break]

With a grin, Killian whistled. The Rattata stiffened at the sound. Blue eyes scanned the battlefield and fell upon Larry. His move set is the most diverse, making him vital going forward. [break][break]

Another whistle followed up a second of a higher pitch. Larry understood the sound, the signal. As did the other Rattata. Two of them circled around to Torretra's sides and charged. A pincered Quick Attack meant to distract while Larry launched another Ice Beam at Torretra's face.

The combination of moves blasted them all back and left the four remaining Rattata badly damaged.[break][break]

They weren't out of the match quite yet, however.[break][break]

Another whistle from Killian spurred them up from the ground and back into action. This time, however - they'd be fighting with aide from the Director. Killian shot the plump rat a pointed glare that clashed with the smile on his face. Cold, like a blizzard or a snowstorm in Sinnoh. Raticate swallowed hard and lifted his phat ass up from the hand.[break][break]

The admin whistled three times. Slow, fast, and then slow again.[break][break]

Ice Beam fired once more.[break][break]

Followed by a Sludge Bomb straight from the Director's opened maw.[break][break]

Lastly, a third Rattata used Endeavour to bring Helena down to their level.

[break][break] pain swells like ice burns in her side, otherwise leaving her relatively unscathed.

[break][break] "now, attack!"

[break][break] a giant wood hammer swings through the air just in time for the sludge bomb. its wings against the sludge, causing it to splatter — both along helena's face and the rest of the arena in a shower of poison.

[break][break] "and now heal," jayden finishes. unknowingly, as the endeavor makes her hp match theirs, the pokemon's body begins to glow with the power of synthesis in an attempt to recover what hp was lost.

What an interesting method of dealing with the attacks. Killian nodded, impressed. Still - the admin saw room for improvement. "You've been defensive this whole match, Jayden." this wasn't a battle he'd win taking a reactionary role. [break][break]

As sweet as victory would taste, the admin didn't want it. To teach, instruct and analyze Jayden's performance. That had been the whole point of the game. [break][break]

Killian motioned to the Rattata. "Before I took charge, how had they been acting?" like fools. A group of buffoons struggling to get their act together until the last second. Five stooges gathered on a sandy stage, taking orders from an overweight fraud. Did the other male see it? The play they'd been performing. All the openings he'd missed. Chances to claim his goal while the rats were distracted amongst themselves.[break][break]

The admin issued no orders. Without his instruction, the Rattata resorted to their previous behavior. They bickered with the Director in a series of squeaks, arguing over what to do.

[break][break] Killian doesn't have to say it. Jayden knows disappointment when he hears it.

[break][break] His gaze shifts over to Killian and he watches obediently as the other motions to the pokemon. Sure enough, without the Admin's influence, the rats are at a loss without their leader. "A group without a leader leads to destruction," he murmurs under his breath. Louder, he says, "They need instruction." His gaze shifts to his own Torterra — she may not have been halfway as foolish, but he was making her out to be one.

[break][break] Something like determination flashes in his eyes. "Helena," he says, voice sharp. "Attack mode." The Torterra looks back at Jayden this time, pained as poison seeps through her, and Jayden meets her gaze evenly. "Use earthquake again, then leaf storm." It had been effective before -- however this time, there would be something additional needed. "Make some distance, an opening, and then - we strike."

[break][break] Nodding, the Torterra lets out a roar as the ground trembles and cracks underneath them with earthquake. A vicious whip of leaf storm cracks around her, the leaves slashing through the air this time with intention. While the pokemon is confused by the sudden change of environment — "Now, giga drain!" Through the air comes the whips of green light, snapping forward in multipple flashes of light. One of them extends in particular, aiming to wrap around the lead Raticate.

Swift to recover and swifter to act, Curly tossed herself in front of the Giga Drain. Protect erected one final time to prevent Raticate from being reached. The tiny Rattata is struggling to breathe. Each breath in riddles her body in pain, but disappointing Killian or Director isn't an option.[break][break]

The plump Raticate is wide-eyed and furious. Too furious to think about the consequences of its own actions. He stomps his feet against the ground in a tanturm that shakes the field like Earthquake.[break][break]

Would Helena survive the Stomping Tantrum too? Most likely, but Jayden had more than proven himself capable at this point.
