this was... different.

[break][break] of all the battles he had taken place, this was just yet another one with an untraditional format. though, this was a relief to jayden who had spent the better part of the afternoon chasing a soccerball along a sandpit. he would be the first to tell you — not as easy as it initially seemed.

[break][break] rocket's rookie training regimen could've been easier.

[break][break] jayden lines up with the others and finds himself standing next to a man that he is unfamiliar with, boruta maher . he glances as the other as his pokemon misses but he makes the throw with ease. jayden blinks, impressed.

[break][break] "nice shot," he comments.

[break][break] the horseshoe is heavy in his hand as he makes the throw. beside him, his loudred STOMPS against the ground, hoping to give their opponents a distraction.

play? weren't they playing already? or perhaps this was a warm-up.

[break][break] either way. "sure." jayden wasn't the type of person to argue, especially for something as little as this. his head tilts to the side. "what did you have in mind?"

[break][break] the horseshoe feels heavy in his hand as he holds it, waiting for the other to give directions.

understanding dawns on the rocket, now that it's been explained to him. he nods in agreement. "sounds good to me," he says, gaze shifting to his own two pokemon. with a low whistle, both the haxorus and loudred come to stand near him. the latter is still antsy, stomping about in the stand, eager to begin.

[break][break] at the sound of a metal clang from the dewgong, lyubov is quick to jump up. jayden hands her the horseshoe, and the pokemon throws it up in the air. an ECHOED VOICE arcs through the air, crashing into the horseshoe -- this one goes flying, splashing into water.

[break][break] too far.

[break][break] jayden unclasps his hands from around his ears. "guess mine did."

"loudred!" lyubov cackles, smacking her fists together in glee. she stomps against the ground as a laughter rumbles out from her.

[break][break] jayden looks for another horseshoe, luckily finding a stack of them nearby. he picks one up and hands it over to kata. "okay, your turn. not too far, now." he shares a look of understanding with the haxorus — don't fail.

[break][break] kata is much more serious and determined than her teammate. a dragon dance pulses around her as the horseshoe is hung atop one of her tusks. she leans forward and then swings wide — the metal piece spins through the air before langing on the target with a mighty clang.

[break][break] a look of approval flickers behind violet eyes.

"thanks." his gaze shifts briefly to boruta maher before turning back to his pokemon. he clicks a bit underbreath, which has the haxorus running across the sand to pick up the horseshoe. with a clever twist, it tosses the item into the air and it lands at jayden's feet.

[break][break] his head cants towards the other as metal meets metal with another clang. "you're good at this," he observes, before blinking. ah — "michail. nice to meet you."

[break][break] there's something about the other's name that rings with familiarity —

[break][break] "is bo short for something?"

[break][break] excitedly, his loudred hops about with stomp before throwing the horseshoe forward - this time with both hands. it lands a little shy of the target. lyubov scowls.

[break][break] the name is unfamiliar. "that makes sense," he says with a nod. "i don't think boruta is a weird name, though." arguably, people could say his name was weird.

[break][break] jayden takes the stand next. he decides - this time - he will have a shot. he reaches down to grab a nearby horseshoe, feeling the smooth metal texture in his hand before taking aim and throwing. it swings through the air with a high-pitched cling as it locks around the target.

[break][break] his loudred stomps against the sand, cheering him on.

lyubov stomps against the ground once more, but rather than be a congratulatory movement, this one is full of frustration and scowling annoyance. how could they let themselves be one-upped by that seal!

[break][break] the loudred stomps forward against the pavement and picks up a horseshoe, using a hyper voice against the metal. it swings through the air and sure enough, lands clumsily on the target. not as cool or accurate -- but seems satisfying enough for the normal type as he walks back, smiling smugly at the cloyster.
