As always, Eva greets her opponent with a bright smile while she approaches. A hand lifts to give him a wave. Her bare feet splash through the waves that crash along the shore. She couldn’t get enough of the salty smell of the ocean. This tournament has been a dream, despite her losing record. Quite frankly, she wasn’t in it for the wins, just the experience and socializing. She’s a support character, after all.

“Hiya! I’m Eva,” she extends a hand to shake his before reaching for her own pokeball. The flash of light morphs into a Barraskewda that rockets through the surface with enthusiasm, “Good luck to you too!”

"i brought some chair, if you want to sit. i think this battle is going to be in their hands."

he chuckles awkwardly, motioning the chairs set into the sand.

"i'm greyson, by the way. eva, right? that sounds really familiar."

as they walk, he holds out his hand to shake hers.

beneath the waves the KINDRA prepares for their battle, will sharpening into LASER FOCUS.

Emerald eyes glance down towards the chairs, holding the smile, “Oh, thank you! That’d be great,” Eva takes his hand, shaking it lightly as they walk, “It’s nice to meet you, Greyson,” she settles into a chair, staring out at the shift sea in front of them. She catches a flash of the Barraskewda before it dives beneath the surface to meet its opponent in battle.

As the Kingdra prepares with Laser Focus, Barraskewda twitches, lightening its already slender form with AGILITY. It’s dark scales flash against the fading sun as it turns away, moving deeper, and tempting the Kingdra to follow.

"so, how's things?"

awkward. but to the point?

kindra's LASER FOCUS in tandem with her SNIPER ability allow a devastatingly powerful attack to follow in the form of a DRAGON PULSE, the draconic energy wrecking havoc on the ocean around them.

Eva raises a brow, laughing lightly at his approach, “Uhh, things are great! Tournament’s been fun,” she shifts in the chair, lacing her fingers together, “What’s up with you?” her smile is playful, attempting to break the awkwardness.

A Dragon Pulse strikes out, rattling the water and stimulating the fish’s lateral line. He attempts to dodge by diving down, but the water amplifies the pulse’s reach. Torpedo shudders, an erratic DIVE down has him disappearing into the darkness below.

he pats his head, trying to brush away the nerves that talking to a new person.

"aha, sorry, i'm not very good at this."

he gives her an awkward, half-crooked smile. one trained and battle tested from the dozens, upon dozens, of awkward interactions.

"this tournament has certainly taken a toll on me and mine. i think next month is definitely going to be more relaxing.

a chuckle escapes, light, and welcoming.

meanwhile, the kingdra follows after the DIVING pokemon, pointed like a hound in her pursuit.

The awkwardness is lost on Eva. Her head tilts as she questions what he means, “What? Battling?” she doubts that’s the case. He seems like a capable trainer. Just has that sort of aire about him, ya know?

Eva nods in agreement, “Fun but exhausting for sure,” she’s happy to sit down and chill for a minute while their pokemon do their own thing under the water. Eva couldn’t wait for a little break either.

Under the surface, the Barraskewda pivots, turning suddenly to strike at the Kingdra from the dark depths with DIVE.

beneath her inquisitive stare, he can't help but chuckle a bit more genuinely this time. perhaps he was far less awkward than he gave himself credit for.

"yeah, battling."

he says reassuringly, falling into the rhythm of their conversation. no use pointing out his own social failings now then, right?

the kingdra's opponent surges upwards from the depths, slamming into the draconic horse like a bullet. their collision has the kindra sent reeling, but she soon catches herself. eyes narrow in defiance of its challenge, and like a riptide, the HYDRO PUMP carries her will of victory into it.

Eva laughs, shaking her head and his response. She diverts her gaze back to him, frowning playfully, “I highly doubt that.”

Barraskewda strikes true, smacking into the Kingdra with DIVE. It retaliates with a vicious HYDRO PUMP which send the fish spinning thought the water, caught in the current. A quick spin of his powerful tail propels him out of the ripe tide created by the attack. The predator charges forward, mouth open, looking to CRUNCH onto its prey with sharp needle-like teeth.

he chuckles in the face of her polite, yet confident honesty.

"ive still got a long way to go."

that at least, he couldn't refute.

a sickening CRUNCH and the kingdra is screaming in pain, bubbles piling out of the large orface on her face. in that mixture, she releases a YAWN, hoping to finish this quickly.

Eva laughs along with him, shrugging her shoulders casually, “We all do,” There’s always something new to learn.

It’s an instinctive reflex to thrash and tear when his teeth bite into flesh. The scream of pain is drowned out by the roar of water that rushes by from his sporadic movements. He doesn’t stop, until a sudden invisible pressure weighs down on him. The YAWN encourages him to relax. His jaws let up, peeling away from the Kingdra. It’s not by choice his body betrays his instinct. He twitches, jetting forward to try and latch on again but his movements are slow and weak. He’s starting to drift off into sleep.

some would argue there is no honor in attacking a sluggish opponent.

kingdra disagrees.

in their slow approach she simply realeases another DRAGON PULSE.

As the Barraskewda drifts away into sleep, the DRAGON PULSE pushes him back, further into the depths. The water around him turns black and his eyes close.
