A policeman's baton was being twirled in Calem's hand as he walked down the beach. The officer's uniform was just a hair too tight.

Didn't stop him from pointing his baton Zac Ramsay while chirping on his whistle.

"Citizen!" A pokeball was tossed out, revealing an aged Arcanine.

"Battle?"

Zac flinched at the sound of the whistle. Was he being disqualified from another volleyball match?

He turned at the shout of citizen. That was him! he was a citizen. "Yeah alright, a battle sounds great," Zac said, relief flooding him like a cool shower of Charja-Cola. He wasn't being disqualified. Just challenged to a battle.

He sent out a Scolipede.

The baton was tossed in the air and caught. Both for word-count and for a show of dexterity with the weapon.

"You're that Gym Leader, right?"

Another whistle and his Arcanine snarled, super Intimidating, before charging forward wreathed in a Flame Wheel. This guy didn't know how to wait.

Always a fan of tricks, Zac whistled at the display of manual prowess. It was very cool. Can couldn't do it, that much was for sure. "Yeah! The name's Zac Ramsay," Zac said, sticking out a hand in greeting. "What's your name?"

Scolipede was terrified of the bare-toothed Arcanine, and retreated back into its shell. The little scaredy-bug rolled away across the sands, with Arcanine hot on its trail.

The Arcanine chased after it's new prey, teeth gleaming as she tried to Crunch into the bug type's shell.

"Calem! Nice to meet you, Mr. Ramsay." He just smiled as his eyes followed his pokemon almost lazily as they engaged in their Tom and Jerry chase.

"You have the sleepy bull as a partner, right? From the merch?"

"Nice to meet ya too!" Zac said, grinning manically at his new friend. "Yeah the sleepy bull, that's me! You didn't buy any of the merch, did you?" he said, feeling a tad embarrassed but far more flattered. "The plushies of me are tremendously overstuffed."

Meanwhile, the bug wheel rolled on, only gaining speed as the ROLLOUT built up. Arcanine's jaws CRUNCHED behind Scolipede, and the insect FLINCHED, losing some of its momentum at the sound of the snapping fangs.

The Arcanine kicked it into high gear with an Extreme Speed. She tried to use the flinch to her advantage to crash into the bug and stop their race.

"I hear that Bulu is really lazy. Especially compared to the other Tapu! Is that true?"

"That's a relief," Zac said, a little disappointed. He rather liked the overstuffed look. "Yeah Bulu's pretty sleepy most of the time. I've spent half the bloody tournament just trying to wake it up! I know that Koko and Fini are pretty energetic. Never met Lele. Maybe it's just as lazy."

Arcanine crashed into Scolipede, who rolled over onto her back in surrender.

Despite the surrender, the Arcanine goes in for a Fire Fang. Calem's pokemon didn't show things like 'mercy'.

But, before it can land, the fire dog is returned to her pokeball. No sense in causing too much of a scene here.

"Could be." He replies, still friendly. "What do you think it says about you that it picked you? And it's so lazy?" It was asked as if it was genuine.

"I don't think it had anything to do with personality, if that's what you're asking," Zac said, nodding politely at the question. "If Bulu knew what they were getting into they wouldn't have picked me! All I bloody do is try to get the lazy bugger up and moving!" He laughed, thinking back at every battle over the last 24 hours that had involved Bulu. It took quite a bit to get it up and moving.

"I think you've got it backwards, mate. I'm not trying to make Bulu look good. I'm having it make reparations!" Zac laughed at the idea that Bulu picked him purely for PR clout. "I've been dragging that bull all over Hoenn, repairing damage and connecting with people. Hell, it's less about looking good and more about making amends. Besides, it couldn't have known how I would act when it picked me. I think I only got avatarship because I headbutted it the hardest."

"Are you talking about yourself?" Zac asked, curious. Did this policeman have beef with Bulu? "Because if you've got a problem, then go talk to Bulu. It would do good for them to hear it." Zac hooked a thumb over this shoulder, to where the legendary was laying, obscured in the shade of palm trees and a behind a screen of thick dune grasses.
