Eris Halla's question is so sudden and innocent it almost makes Chu-e laugh. The pancakes?

Eris was so mature for her age that it was hard to forget she was still just a kid. In fact, her maturity was probably more due to some trauma. It made Chu-e a little sad for her, for what more she would have to go through, but for now he just smiled and vowed to do what he could to make it better.

"It wasn't the pancakes. They were really good." Raising an arm up, he tried to gently ruffle her hair, a small smile curling on his lips.

"I just hadn't eaten much in a while, then I stuffed myself all at once. I think most people would throw up if they did that." He also shakes his head at her offer, sweet as it was.

"I'll be okay, swear. Think I just need to catch my breath is all."

When she opens her eyes, she's met with a stack of blankets and pillows, a low growl emanating from the pile as Reiner finally sticks his head out. When had he retrieved these? It must have been Eyja's idea, judging by the crackling of electricity and vigorous trembling of pillows in a corner. Regardless, she's quick to hand Chu-e a whole set, taking the rest and slowly beginning to lay them out.

"We used to do this a lot when I was a kid. I'd get sick or I'd injure myself exploring a lot so we ended up staying home and making big pillow forts whenever we could. Sometimes we'd even get into pillow fights and momma would get so mad we didn't invite her."

"Yeah?" Chu-e listens to Eris Halla because what she says is important. He wonders if she knows that. The blankets are accepted and he helps unfold them, hand them over if she needs, while taking a lap throw for himself. The sickness had given him a chill.

"I did this, too. Some nights me and my brother would have bad dreams, so our sister would come in with her blankets and pillows. We'd drag ours off our bed and then she would read to us by flashlight. We'd all fall asleep in a pile, plus the family Houndour, until our parents found us in the morning."

A sad smile, bittersweet. He missed his family.

"My dad would make us pancakes when we got up and mom would take us to throw stones in the lake. Chase away those bad dreams."

She can almost hear the leaves rustling under her feet as the wind gently tussles her hair. "We had a lake near our house, just a short walk through the forest. Whenever it was sunny, momma would take me there to learn how to fight Gyarados and I'd compete with pa to see who could skip rocks further."

Like Chu-e, she misses her. Unlike him, she's certain that she'll never see them again. So she makes do like a child with pieces of paper and a scissors, crafting whatever remnants of family she can possibly hope to get out of this current situation.

Carefully propping a bunch of pillows up, Eris cradles the lingering sweetness of those memories. "Could we do that sometime? Skip stones or go fishing or something?" She looks over the pillow wall, swaying just slightly as Reiner nudges her. "Reiner's a lil antsy cos I can't swim, but I'll promise to be extra careful. We can even ask Leon if he'd like to come!"
