As far as birthdays go, it’s perfect, even if it's nothing like what he imagined this day would be like.

It’s almost funny, really, since Mars usually hates what he does not expect; he dreads it, because unexpected things have rarely been good in his life.

And yet, this time, it’s good.

This time it’s great, from beginning to end.

From Cian being there for him when he needed him to be on a morning of haunting nightmares and running, to now that they have shared so much and lie in each other’s arms out on the balcony…

In the aftermath of everything, there’s something nice about silence, a faint smile lingering upon his lips as fingers idly play with a strand of Cian’s hair.

Until Mars himself ruins his precious silence.

Because it’s nighttime, because it’s cold, and because it doesn’t take long for him to have to turn away for the sake of a sneeze that is followed by a quiet ”...Fuck.”

He doesn’t mind, and this time he’s the one reaching for a kiss once he’s off the couch.

the shower turns on, warm water pouring because surely it's preheated. it washes over him, drenching and refreshing as thin steam starts to rise off his body.

it's selfish because mars probably needs the water more than he does, but after a chuckle, he reaches for mars and tugs him into the water as well.

Chuckling, Mars shakes his head, his gaze then meeting Cian’s only to mirror the smirk. ”You can do it as much as you want, sure, but you better keep in mind that there’s consequences to it.”

He doesn’t really make consequences sound like a bad thing though, and he smiles when he’s pulled into the water, warm droplets falling onto his skin. Cian’s right, Mars does need it, but he also doesn’t pay much attention to it. How could he, in a situation like this?

”For a second there I was wondering if you weren’t going to share,” he teases, following these words with a kiss.
