Retracing steps. Going down the chasm into New Mauville. Not caring who follows him, as he walks through the open mouth. Through the tunnel, to what looked like a laboratory and a power plant all in one. Generators and power pylons shared cramped spaces with desks, with pages of notes strewn around.

The sound of footsteps followed, down the metal steps and onto the tiled floor behind him. He turned to face her, wearing a tie and button-up. A little imp sat next to him, grabbing his finger in its entire hand like a toddler.

He'd lived in Mauville his whole life, up until moving to the other side of the west-Hoenn mountains months ago. Nonetheless, he hadn't been down here for more than minutes at a time.

"Oh, hello. How have you been?"

The click of her heels followed after him, but only coincidentally. She’d not come to assault him again, but rather to check up on the infinity generator housed in GMH’s new power plant.

His face caught her off-guard, but the surprise would seem to roll off rather easily. 

“Ferrara,” she acknowledged.

How had she been? Her nose wrinkled a little, as though smelling something funny. “Fine.”

“What are you doing here?”

Before he could answer, a phone was pulled from her pocket, thumbs texting something to an engineer on site.

The power plant was abuzz with lots of quiet conversations. Floors below, an engineer's phone lit up. What looked like an actual big thief trying to sap power off a wall socket by the door was ineffectually swung at by a Pawniard. A little thing that only knew that it wanted a fight.

A flash of red pulled the imp back. Upon spotting Pawniard, Giona whipped an arm. The Rocket patterned ball let loose a Pancham. This also drew the ire of Electivire. The three launched off the ground and swung at eachother repeatedly. The constant small blows gently pattered like a drum circle at a music festival. Every hit was charged with the id-attacking-id quality of two children playing "bloody knuckles".

"...I lived here as a kid. This was on the opposite side of town to me, just outside of city limits."

Pawniard faltered first, but Pancham relented. Giona threw a ball at it, cutting the fight short for now. Pancham and Electivire looked a little disappointed, but relented after a moment of quiet. Again, she bristled at him. He offered a little smile.

"I'm taking him for a walk. He's restless if I don't do this."

lulu looked up from her phone at the sound of electricity zapping, and the blur of giona’s leap to action. “hm?”

she blinked, not having expected such chaos to be occurring here. sure, when it was rubble, maybe. there had been dangerous infestations of explosive electric types, but they’d since cleared them. or, at least, so they’d thought.

lulu pursed her lips. her eyes shifted from the battle back to giona, blinking as he simply continued the conversation as though nothing was happening. the corner of her lips curled the smallest bit, cutting the sour look on her face. bewildered, but also a little amused.

“i see.”

her phone lowered and she pocketed it, crossing her arms and remaining there.

“creepy place to grow up in,” she judged, and recalled the first time they’d met. the mission. his fearlessness.

There was no way that these things were simply out and about in this power plant. They had to be coming in from the outside.

It was good then that their conversation hadn't moved that far from the entrance. From the double-doors. Two much smaller pokemon tried to squeak by. Giona jabbed a thumb at the Bronzor as if making an aside to her, before descending on what he was actually interested in. Charjabug was a Bug type first, so it could certainly take an attempted whooping from his pet.

Pancham leapt at it, leading the two to take turns lunging at eachother. It was like the earlier scuffle, but much easier to make out.

"...I know, right? The economy is great. No place for a kid though."

He said, with a little cackle at the end. Pancham returned to him with a downed but still heaving with breath Charjabug. Giona handed a ball to the thing to play with, leading Pancham to immediately claim the downed bug.

"They didn't even let me play the pinball machines at the nightclubs."
