Natural light intrudes upon the office as the sun peeks in through tall west-facing windows. It illuminates everything it falls upon, brightening the stylish room that had previously only relied upon perfectly controlled and purposefully dimmed down light bulbs.

It causes the man to pause as he stares at the laptop before him, warm gaze of bright amber shifting to look at the screen’s lower right corner.

So, it’s already midday.
[break][break]
It’s been one of those days when it seems all too easy to lose track of time thanks to his heavy workload, and his glasses (those he only ever wears at work and when appearing in public as CEO) are set down onto the desk in order to pinch the bridge of his nose for a few seconds.

Nearby, the Persian that had been peacefully sleeping on an elegant white sectional stretches and yawns before going back to his nap, and in response, Mars finds himself covering a yawn of his own before texting his assistant to ask for another espresso.

A demitasse already lays empty before him.

It really had been a long morning.

It’s not Cian who Mars expects to see when hearing a knock on the door, but that’s not a bad thing at all.

If anything, he’s perhaps the only person who could make Mars smile in such an honest way on a day such as this one, and he chuckles quietly when noticing the steaming little cup of coffee.

”It means ’half cup’. It’s just what you’d call them if you want to be fancy about it.”

And Mars, of course, is always fancy about most things in life.

His gaze finds Cian’s. ”Thanks for the espresso, and for stopping by… It’s a nice surprise.”

It really is, especially when he’s been so busy.

”Are you just going to stand there though?” At this, his smile turns into a smirk that matches Cian’s.

The Persian remains on the sofa, now lazily watching them with crimson eyes.

It does sound fancier, and it fits too, because of course the cups at Mars’ office are not plain, white, and simple. They’re delicate and beautifully adorned, and they looked like breaking one would be really regretable.

But with Cian in his office, Mars pays the fancy little cups no mind at all.

Instead, he watches the way a finger trails along the mahogany wood of his desk, the question making him pause.

How much time does he have?

If he's not mistaken, the meetings scheduled are for later in the afternoon, but even if so, he still has a lot of paperwork, emails, and reports to get through...

So, he looks up at Cian from where he sits, gaze once again meeting his.

”I could take my lunch break. What do you have in mind?”

Of course Mars wouldn’t say no to Cian.

Mars plays along, smirking as he reciprocates the kiss, and when Cian pulls away all too soon and too suddenly, eyebrows raise, only for this gesture to be quickly followed by gentle laughter.

Well... that’s not nearly as exciting as what he had started to imagine with the change in tone, but the twist is expected, and even if it is, it’s still adorable.

”I get to have lunch with you? Lucky me. What are we having?”

Andrea usually wouldn’t humour this sort of thing, because it’s part of her job to make sure that Mars doesn’t have to be surprised by anything that happens to him, and yet, the fact that she goes along with Cian’s wishes is not at all shocking. She probably just wants him to relax for a moment and enjoy himself, just like Cian likely wishes for the same thing…

”You’re teasing me, and it’s mean. You’ll break my heart.” He says this, but he can’t help but smile, because it’s not like Mars would actually mind Olive Garden or anything of the like – at least not if he’s having lunch with Cian. Don’t people always say food tastes better when in good company?

There’s a knock, and Cian responds before he can say a word, his attitude causing Mars to chuckle just as his assistant steps into the office.

Unlike Cian, Andrea is as businesslike as always.

”Mister Del Mar. Mister Maher.” She nods politely in acknowledgement despite her bored expression, and in her hands there are indeed their takeout containers and utensils.

”Thank you, Andrea. You should also go take your lunch break.”

The food is placed on the desk, and the Persian’s ears perk up, lifting his head and sniffing around when the delightful scent of the meal begins to fill the air.

But Dollar is not Andrea’s problem, and because she’s not told otherwise, she completely ignores the pokémon when heading out of the office after a polite "I hope you enjoy your meal."

It's cute. All of this is, honestly.

The exquisite aroma of a sage and brown butter reduction rises from the portion of gnocchi in his plate, and Mars can’t help but wonder if Cian actually remembered his usual order or if he had to ask at the restaurant. He doesn’t voice this though, because it’s not like he minds, and the gesture is still sweet regardless of how it came about. Maybe he texted Andrea? Does he have Andrea’s number? It wouldn’t be too surprising…

as nice as it sounds, he knows it's a bit farfetched just because of the nature of mars' job. still, it's a nice thought to entertain, but cian's happy to get whatever time he can get.

"my day's been boring without you. didn't get up to much, honestly."

both statements are truths.

It’s not exactly possible since he himself has meetings and will have to leave the office later on, but still, it’s a nice thought. Work would be much better if he had Cian here with him, even if that would likely prove to be incredibly distracting.

”You can stay for a while if you want, but I don’t know how fun that’d be for you since I’ll be going through reports... I have an annoying meeting at three.” He sighs, because there sure isn’t anything fun about all that. For the most part, Mars has come to really like his job, but he definitely isn’t the kind of person made to spend all day alone in an office. It's probably why the Persian is here with him – to keep him company.
