CLOSE QUARTERS IN HOT WATERS

A HEAVY EXHALE BREAKS THE CONSTANT SOUND OF DRIPPING WATER. Fernando eases himself into the warm waters, sampling the vacation luxury with bated breath. When his skin is submerged, the rest of his body feels a sudden chill from the discrepancy, hastening his dip until he settles in the stone basin.

This late at night means most are either retired or out drinking. For Fernando, he takes his staycation at ease. The short term lull of waiting for others to respond spares him a momentary break as he soaks. A floating coaster sits in the bath, a ceramic bottle of hot sake left untouched.

For now, he is alone.

Angelo considers, for the briefest of moments as he walks into the Lavaridge hot spring, about turning right back around. And not just because the only man left sitting in the stone basin, steam wisping up into the open air, is Fernando Silph… [break][break]

“Not interrupting your…” A hand is waved towards the floating bottle of sake and the night ambiance that the man with too many occupations to count has submerged himself in; stars glittering prettily overhead. Angelo's lips quirk, lazily. “Solo, self-care date, am I?”[break][break]

Even so, Angelo still wades in. Sinking down until weary muscles become submerged in steaming, spring water. A expel of air is released from his lungs, arms stretched out on the rocks behind him in a casual lounge. [break][break]

Fuck it. He can’t be bothered to walk back down the mountain stairs…

“IT’S AN OPEN BATH,” he answers, uncaring. He doesn’t recognize the voice at first. An impossible task considering how little he’s met the man. Add in the frequency and the memory is fleeting.

His eyes open and Angelo’s face proves a better reminder than his voice.

“Oh,” there is remembrance in his voice, “it’s you.”

Angelo gives no clue as to where Silph may recognise him, leaving the guess to the winds of the open-air hot spring as he gives himself to steaming water. Sweat begins to dew upon his nape, tickling in the contrasting breeze as muscles ease, uncaring to the company. [break][break]

Narrowed, heat-lazy blue eyes slowly trail after the bottle that floats innocently by his person with tempting allure; spring water tauntingly drifting by under his nose, as he sits in a sea of salt. [break][break]

“What’ve you got there?” [break][break]

HE PAYS HIM NO MIND. Shared bathing, naked bodies, the all of it, has never bothered Fernando Silph. He deals in bigger issues than the trivialities of bare skin.

Which is why conversing during the soak doesn’t bother him. It’s the same with kim cole-essam taking up the urinal next to him in League HQ and starting conversation. Even when the esteemed, and married, Councilman decides to take a peek in jest. Fernando remains unfazed, if not unabashed.

“Sake,” he answers. The call to attention remind him to drink and he sips from it gingerly.

“Kanto Sake.”

It sits on the coaster and he pushes the floatie in Angelo’s direction.

“Help yourself,” he insists, well after it’s sailed toward him.

“Thanks. That’s generous of you.” [break][break]

In the absence of a whole drinkware set on the floaty, Angelo casually tips the bottle to his lips. Clear, somewhat dry liquid trickles down his throat as he takes a mouthful of a beverage he’d yet to properly experience; not to this grade, anyway. He swallows the Kantonian sake like it’s a regular ol’ glass of cheap rum. Barely savouring it. [break][break]

It’s warm. A touch of sweet lingering on the tongue. [break][break]

Angelo hums in consideration, giving the bottle another perusing drag of his gaze before placing it back on its inflatable.[break][break]

It's silently pushed back across the water towards Fernando.

IT SWIMS CLOSER TO HIM BUT NOT QUITE YET. Fernando reaches gingerly for the coaster, pulling it in, before going for the bottle. He takes his portion slower than Angelo. The sake proves more applicable to his taste than the shots they took in Slateport.

“How long have you been in Hoenn?”

A simple question that paves the groundwork for more.
