Even criminals can be proud. In fact, they may just be some of the proudest people out there (as some would argue may just be proven by the level of the egos sitting in this sauna).

When it comes to the Marzán’s pride in their past, this is not about honour but about greatness; about sigils, crests, words, and marks left in this world’s history long before they were forced to move to the Sinnoh region. It’s about exactly what Remiel seems to easily guess: privilege. Patricians, aristocrats, the elite; overtime they’re called different things, but it’s always the same, isn’t it? People proud of their blood itself, a blood that Mars was often told he was unworthy of when growing up, simply because he never showed it any respect.

Mars has always had a deep appreciation for history, for even as a child he found solace in the ancient tomes kept at his family’s library. Even before then, his father would tell him stories of ancient times, perhaps creating in his mind the idealized perception of a long gone world that was once much better than this one.

That perception may have vanished long ago, but his fondness for history still hasn’t faded away in the slightest. Even when he pushes himself to look forward instead of to the past…

Isn’t he himself that way too? He may play the philanthropist part all he likes, he may act like a caring and charitable man, but in the end, there’s only a handful of people who Mars actually cares about.

Hm. Quite frankly, Remiel hadn't been expecting that answer. Despite the front his PR manager and the rest of the team behind helped him put forward, he certainly didn't consider himself charitable or upstanding when it came to the lower class. For the most part, Mars’ own knowledge of the classics and treatises comes mostly from personal interest, but even if that’s the case, there’s no denying that certain things have been the result of his family’s influence. The Prince is one of them, although perhaps it could mostly be called the influence of the private tutors that were ever dreaded by his childhood self.

There’s a quiet chuckle at Remiel’s response, and it’s a shrug that follows after it. ”Not sure if I’d call Machiavelli the greatest role model when it comes to modern politics, but I always found his work with the Medici to be an interesting topic.”

Remiel laughs, the sound echoing throughout the hallways of stone and ornately chiseled pillars as he sinks a little deeper into the pool. "You know, some people think the same thing about me, I hear. And yet FERNANDO SILPH and I always somehow manage to share the same company anyway."

Despite mixed feelings of resentment, he could at least appreciate Fernando's taste in women. And the idea that, perhaps, the two of them were more similar than they thought. Even if the idea bugs him to no end.

Friends were overrated, anyway. He'd tried to manage a group before. It hadn't ended well. In fact, it'd resulted in the death of his father. Though he distracts himself from thinking about it further as he scoops water into his hands and splashes it across his bare chest.
