"You've been making quite a name for yourself!" Zac said, beaming at his former student. "A League recommendation,, battling Groudon, I hear you even called up a bloody huge vine to save the day!" Zac put both hands over his heart, grinning wildly.

They walked along Route 116, tromping along the unkempt paths as they headed towards the Rustboro Tunnel. They were out for a 'private lesson' of sorts, but right now Zac just wanted to check in with his friend. "What other madness have you been getting up to?"

she hadn't really been expecting the things she'd done lately to be on anyone's mind anymore. sure it hadn't happened that long ago but for some reason she was just... expecting people to move on from it. "it was terrifying honestly. but i'm glad that everyone came out of it alive." it had been scary to think that groudon had been so worked up that it was willing to hurt that many people. but she figured that it had been whatever that weird rock was fault.

"everything else i've been doing has been nothing compared to that really. just some routine ranger work. making sure pokemon are where they're supposed to be and all that." but she was worried about him. "i heard something weird happened to you during the groudon incident? are you alright?" all of that energy couldn't have been easy to work with or contain.

she'd heard rumors about what happened to people that messed too much with groudon energy.

"That's the good stuff right there," Zac said, nodding in approval of Giselle's ranger work. He liked taking the time to get back to basics too. There could be an intoxicating freedom to the wilds, and to getting your hands dirty helping put the world right.

He waved away her worried, grinning in the sunlight. "Right as rain! As we came out of the mountain we hit a time pocket and an old guy who I think was a previous Groudon avatar enchanted a can of Charja-Cola with some of his primal energy," Zac explained, sounding more and more like a conspiracy theorist, "and when I drank it I got the ability to shape earth, a bit like Bailey Cooper used to do! But you saw that action up in the caldera anyway. Shame it faded though. I'm sure I could have held it for longer."

A Beheeyem loomed out of the bushes, possibly attracted by Zac's alien ramblings. Certainly to any outsider, the combination of time travel, superpowers, and magic soda would seen like unintelligible nonsense, but the Pokemon seemed attracted by it. It floated very close to Zac, beeping softly as it bonded with him. "Hey buddy!" said the ranger, rubbing its semi-metallic head. He turned to Giselle, "see this is what I was talking about. Just wandering the land and making new friends."

giselle nodded along, believing every word he said because there was no way that he wasn't telling the truth. not with everything else that had happened. he could tell her that a dunsparce did a tap dance while they were on that mountain and she'd believe it as if it was obviously the most logical thing. anything and everything could have happened up there. "oh! we hit one of those too! the pokemon looked strange... but i suppose that's what they looked like at that time."

seeing ancient pokemon had been exciting. thrilling even. though she hadn't had time to think on that in the moment it was happening. she wished she'd had more time then and there. just to get a better look. when her life wasn't in danger. "they were bigger! and... i don't know how to describe it." it had been wild. and free. and while she was free now in hoenn something about that energy had been all encompassing. "did it hurt?"

that was the real question. all of that power had to have some sort of draw to it. something that caused a negative effect. but that train of thought was interrupted by the pokemon that floated up to zac. a pokemon she hadn't exactly seen before but was sure she'd learn about eventually. "you make friends rather easily." after all he seemed to be pretty popular no matter where he went, a trait that was good for anyone.

"What did they look like?" Zac asked, excited about the ancient Pokemon. He hadn't seen anything like that in his time pocket, mainly some extinct trees. He'd replanted them near his 'house', but with the difference in atmospheric Oxygen they weren't growing very well. "Did you recognize any of them? Were they huge and beautiful?"

"It didn't hurt. It just felt very warm. Like I'd gulped down too much coffee. Afterwards my arms were a bit sore. It felt like I'd done all the earth moving with my own two hands, but in the moment it was all mental."

Zac looked down at the Beheeyem that was beeping beside him. Its hands flashed with different cosmic hues. "You move towards your most dominant desire," he said, rubbing the alien's smooth, curved head.

"If you want riches and you're always thinking about business opportunities, then you're more likely to spot them when they crop us." Beheeyem pushed up into Zac's hand, and he stumbled back, laughing. "And if you're always on the lookout for friends, you'll find others who want the same."

"they were incredible!" her enthusiasm was out of the roof thinking about and talking about it. "they were massive really! yanma and yanmega were even... more! and there were fossil pokemon! but they didn't really move the same or look the same and i was wondering if they even kept the same typing... because the rock typing comes from the fossilization right? so it got me thinking that they probably weren't dual types at all, or maybe they lost a typing after becoming fossils?" it had been something she had been thinking about a lot. she didn't worry about zac getting annoyed by his blathering because she knew he enjoyed talking about these things too.

"i hope you got lots of rest afterwards..." but she was sure that he knew how to take care of himself. for the most part. she had noticed that some of the time people tended to push themselves above and beyond and with the avatar abilities that could only be dangerous.

she had to think really. because as much as she said she knew what she was looking for the goal posts kept moving. "well, when i first came to hoenn i was looking for freedom. and i've got that now. and then i wanted more confidence and i've been working well on that. so... i don't know! i like the work i'm doing and i like the people i know. i guess i'm just trying to enjoy life right now the best i can until i figure it out." she always seemed to be floating.

"but i can just ask you for help if i need it." and she knew that to be one hundred percent true.

"That's a good point! Yeah I bet they never had that rock typing originally." Zac nodded, thinking about the possibilities. "If you can resurrect dead Pokemon in different ways, or inside different materials, do you reckon you could give them new types?" The possibility was wild!

"If you're happy, then you're already where you want to be. Great work, close friends," he wrapped an arm around Giselle and gave her a friendly 'Slateport shuffle', "and of course amazing adventures. Hell, the only thing missing is-"

*Pop*

"-UNOWN!" Zac shouted, pointing a thick finger at the black letter that floated right in front of them. It had appeared with the smallest of flashes, as if sliding between dimensions. It's glossy, rubbery skin was a tar pit for the eyes, drawing Zac in.

He couldn't look away, and groping blindly in his bag for some balls he lunged at the Unown. The little letter bobbed in the air, and made no attempt to flee as Zac clapped it between two Pokeballs and fell flat on his face.

Zac rolled over, eyes wide and beard full of dust. He grabbed the ball, watching as the little red light blinked, and finally dulled.

"We got one!" he crowed.

anything she was really going to say had to go out the window after a moment but she was pleased as punch nonetheless. physical contact was something that was usually reserved for waltzes and things like that. though she had kissed someone when they were at the groudon mission it had just been a celebratory kiss on the cheek, nothing that she really considered serious. it was all just new experiences for her. but she opened her mouth to say something when zac shouted that an unown had appeared.

"oh! get it!" she knew that zac had been looking for the little floatie things more than she had, so it was important that he managed to get one. all she wanted to do was cheer him on for it, and a small laugh escaped when he happened to... fall on his face to do so. when he stood once more she gently brushed some of the dirt off of his beard and face. "well, that's one down. i'm pretty sure that we can find a couple more too." at the very least. "i've never seen one in person before. though some people said they were at the groudon grouping i didn't manage to see them." she had been a little bit busy with the fire balls raining down.

in the hubbub a small face appeared from the bushes, a tiny little alien that had been watching from there as it all went on. the strange electronic sound that it made was kind of cute as giselle leaned down. she was pretty sure that it was the baby version of the pokemon that zac had just caught. she wondered if it was related to the one he just caught? "hey there little one..." reaching out with her hand she watched as it waddled closer and took her hand. "don't mind him, he's just a little bit loud."

she grinned up at zac as she lifted the little eglyem into her arms. he had been right, you really could make friends anywhere. "not scary at all." and she had just made a new one.
