Route 116 was a short walk from Rustboro, where the Galarian Embassy was located. When Rocket had messaged him to meet with one of their researchers at a local café, it was easy enough for him to make some time out of his busy schedule to do so. When said researcher, a young lass by the name of Hata Hiro, presented him with a device she believed capable of tracking Unown, however, things immediately became more interesting. And, well...[break][break]

That busy schedule for the day was discarded.

They were to meet with one of Rocket's executives at the western entrance to Route 111. Despite the royal secretly being an admin, however, neither of them were told who they would meet with. Simply that he was a man, and he would approach them once they were seen standing at a particular bus bench preceding the forested canyon trail.[break][break]

His interest in searching for Unown had not been secret from Team Rocket, for he had no reason to do so. To his knowledge, more than a few members of the organization had received mysterious devices containing the Unown Report, just as he had, and such being the case, counting on Team Rocket’s resources sounded like the best way forward when dealing with this particular situation…

It’s why he had gone to ask for Lulu Flint’s opinion on the matter, and it’s also why he cleared his schedule today to go meet one of Team Rocket’s researchers. There had been the promise of a device that could perhaps track Unown, and there had also been mention of another executive’s presence.

Naturally, he hadn’t expected this executive to be Remiel Calcifet out of all people, but when seeing the pair standing at the bus bench that had been marked as their place, it all suddenly makes perfect sense:

Of course the adored Galarian prince and ambassador is in Team Rocket, just like the charming businessman and philanthropist is as well.

Mars doesn’t dwell on this, and it’s with a confident and bright smile that he greets the pair:

He had been given a vague description, but it’s enough to take a guess as to who she is. ”Would I be right to assume you’re the researcher, then?”

Earl Grey, a pink Sinistea that had been lying dormant on the bus bench up until this point, rises from his slumber to greet the other executive first. With plenty of flair and practiced grace, the teacup bows.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Remiel is surprised to see the young man, and for once his typical indifferent expression breaks slightly to show it. "Happy coincidence indeed. It's a pleasure making your acquaintance again, Martín." Though, of course, this time they were fully clothed, and there was something odd about that, wasn't there? People didn't usually meet half-naked. Especially people who coincidentally happened to be co-workers.[break][break]

"Y-Yes, that's right. Associate Hata Hiro, sir." She bows, having been caught off-guard as she was silently studying and staring at both men. Though nervous about to what say next, something begins to beep in her messenger bag. With haste, the young black-haired woman digs into it before pulling out a strange contraption. "Mr. Calcifet! Your USB, please."[break][break]

Remiel nods, handing over the USB he'd acquired and watching as she inserted it into her own device. There's a rhythmic sound afterwards, the sound of something loading... before, suddenly, another ping higher in pitch sounds out. Swiftly, Hata turns and points her device forward. "An Unown! There!" She announces, aiming at a bush.[break][break]

What emerges out from it instead, however, is a Chimecho. It floats towards them soundlessly, chirping with delight as Remiel reaches out to pat its head. It decides to dance around him afterward. "Are you sure about that?" He says, shifting his unimpressed gaze at the researcher.[break][break]

Remiel’s surprise is not missed, nor is the way the Black Tea Pokémon bows gracefully (but, really, who could have ever missed the latter when there was such flair to it?). A polite nod is offered to the Sinistea in acknowledgement before returning his attention to Remiel and the researcher, their introductions soon being interrupted by the beeping of the device that had brought them all together to begin with…

Device which, judging by the appearance of the ambassador’s new wind chime friend, may just be nothing but bullshit.

”Hm… That’s a shame.” The words are said matter-of-factly, no disappointment showing itself in his voice, but he does sigh – a slight smirk being offered to the researcher. Still, he pauses, for nearby something shifts behind a boulder.

”Oh. It might be there, though. Acratus, will you?”
[break][break]
The gold and pink Inkay that had until now been hiding behind him bops along through the air towards the boulder, and when reaching it, it twirls, smashing right through it with a surprisingly powerful PSYCHO CUT. What it finds is no Unown but a Meditite that seems startled by the sudden attack. Naturally, it attempts to retaliate, but the Inkay hits fits with a precise NIGHT SLASH.

”Guess not, too bad.” Once again, a smile accompanied by indifference. ”Acratus, that’s enough of that.”
[break][break]
With that, a pokéball is thrown so the deceivingly cute little Inkay will stop beating up its current victim.

No amazing device to lead them to the Unown, then? He should've guessed.

Hata offers a nervous smile and a mumbled apology after Remiel retrieves a luxury ball from his pack and taps it against the Chimecho he's befriended. "Hehe... I'm still working out the kinks. It, um... needs a little time! To warm up, yes."[break][break]

Remiel casts her a doubtful look, then turns to Martín to see whether the doubt was shared. Instead, he finds an Inkay assaulting a Meditite before the latter is whisked away into a Pokéball of its own. "Let's move ahead off the trail," Remiel suggests. "I don't believe Unown would dare to cross a well-traveled trail such as this..."[break][break]

A Swoobat, on the other hand, certainly dared as it flew out from a nearby tree and cast an IMPRISON upon them. Clicking his tongue with annoyance, Remiel cast a hand forward and directed his Sinistea to attack it.[break][break]

"Shadow Ball."

[break][break]

One soft explosion of shadow and a failed PSYCHO SHIFT afterwards, and the large bat fell to the ground in a heap of wings. The royal was quick to follow up with the toss of a luxury ball, and stepped forward to retrieve it immediately thereafter.[break][break]

"N-Nice captures, sirs!" Hata compliments, pausing from tweaking her device to do so.[break][break]

An eyebrow is raised at the researcher’s excuses, because that’s clearly all they are: excuses. Still, it’s not like she can be blamed, can she? Lenient as they may sometimes be in comparison to other criminal organizations, Team Rocket is not exactly known to be the most forgiving or patient of employers. There must be a certain pressure Hata Hiro feels when being out here with two executives, and that may just be why she seems so nervous…

Not like Mars cares, though. Even if he can acknowledge that those feelings are likely there.

”Going off the trail would probably be a good idea, yeah. Doubt we’ll find anything but common pokémon around here.”

So, that’s what they do, and it’s only a couple of minutes after they have stepped off the main road that more pokémon begin to appear – probably feeling more comfortable with less people near them...

Like the Kirlia that begins skipping along in chase the floating Inkay.

Mars allows himself to simply watch them for a short moment before commanding Acratus with a nod, and it’s then when HYPNOSIS puts the wild pokémon to sleep, a Premier Ball being thrown.

”Is it warm enough yet?”

He sounds as if he honestly wants to know, for whatever sarcasm there may be to the question lies in the unimpressed look he gives the researcher and not his words.

Focused on fiddling with her machine, Hata accidentally bumps into one of them. "Oh, sorry executive," She hastily apologizes, holding her device to her chest as she looks up. "Just give me a little more time and—" It's only then that she realizes she didn't bump into one of them after all. Instead, she's face-to-face with a Lickilicky's massive belly.[break][break]

The creature appears confused as the girl yelps and staggers backward in a hurry. Rather than wait for it to attack or initiate some sort of ridiculous attempt at friendship, Remiel swiftly summons a blue Bisharp with a luxury ball. "Strike it down."[break][break]

The armored soldier trills, baring its sharp chest proudly before swiftly closing the distance with a NIGHT SLASH. The Lickilicky falls to the ground in a heap afterwards, and Remiel produces an empty ball that he casts at it.[break][break]

The researcher begins to fiddle with her device again afterwards, but comes to an abrupt pause when Executive Mars regards her next. "E-Eh?! But my machine works, I promise!"[break][break]

Remiel turns just in time to see her nervously gulp after her statement, but their little interaction is rudely interrupted by a sharp SCREECH afterwards. Its source? A lumbering Exploud pushing aside a tree to emerge from the forest.[break][break]

After dropping his hands from his ears, the royal looks towards his blue Bisharp and sharply nods. That's all the soldier needs before springing into action with LASER FOCUS, dodging a swift CRUNCH before putting the ogre down with a single, critical slash (NIGHT SLASH).[break][break]

Remiel produces a luxury ball from his pack and tosses it at the unconscious beast afterwards. "How does it work, anyway?" He inquires, sauntering towards his new capture in the meantime.[break][break]

"W-Well, Unown give off a unique psychic energy!" Hata explains, quickly resuming another scan as she holds her device up at arm's length again. "I'm not sure it's possible to track it as one would a scent, but... I-I'm working on finding out! For now, my device should be— I mean, is capable of picking up these readings from 50 meters..."[break][break]

As it is becoming increasingly obvious to Mars, the research’s nerves don’t seem to be just due to shyness and anxiety and whatever else may plague people who suck at talking to others (Mars has never understood things like those, of course he can’t relate). Hata Hiro over here is also nervous, hesitant, and afraid, and why wouldn’t she be when her machine obviously doesn’t work despite what she says?

Mars would have commented on it, but the SCREECH causes him to cover his ears, a sigh then leaving him as hands drop before simply watching Remiel’s Bisharp swiftly deal with the annoying Exploud.

A question is asked then, and when the answer comes, brows are quirked at what sounds like no more than science mumbo jumbo to Mars. Maybe Remiel understands more about all that, but Mars himself would rather look at the trees – his gaze soon finding a Natu that’s just chilling on a branch. Why not take the chance to catch it? Might as well get something out of this.

A simple nod towards it and his Inkay takes this as cue to also put this pokémon to sleep. And, once a pokéball is thrown, Mars turns to the researcher once more.

”If they really do have a unique Psychic energy, couldn’t a pokémon do the job instead? Like how Hatterene are particularly good at sensing energy and emotion.”

He actually had been paying attention, if only because as someone who technically specializes in Psychic pokémon, that seems like the obvious solution.
