“and it shrinks back to normal?” he asks despite having seen his MEGA URSHIFU do the same. the sheer bewilderment xantho has highlights how different their expectations are.

“I SEE, I SEE,” xantho nods as he jots down more notes. what kazimir explains is a foreign concept but makes sense based on what the megalopolan knows so far.

“in our world,” he starts, “only stingers can evolve! t-they’re hatch as larvae and then mature into stingers!”

this is all stuff kazimir already knows. in fact, it’s a common occurrence on hoenn as well. this world has learned a great deal from the ULTRA BEAST WAR and the fact these purple starters are the most common ultra beast here is ironic, if not alarming.

“the only ULTRA BEAST we can use are those we hatch from eggs. if you d-domesticate them, you can train them, k-kind of.” uncertainty in his voice stems from the occasional incident. the trauma of his past seems to bleed into their conversation. despite his origin, xantho seems more at home with these much tamer pokemon than any ultra beast.

one may wonder if other megalopolans may feel the same.

“but ultra beast don’t look the same just because they’re the same species.” the lack of nails on his fingers stick out as he raises his hands far and wide. “they start out small but ultra beasts can grow reeaaaaalll big! you can tell which ones are really old or are ALPHA predators based on their size.”

“Y-YEAH?” the fact that kazimir has to even ask makes xantho question the phenomenon itself. however, he is quick to remind himself that their worlds differ across the board. what’s common sense to him is exotic to his friend. their expectations are different. so is their culture.

“yeah! they get bigger as they age,” he reiterates. a sporadic flip of his notebook reveals a GUZZLORD in great detail. this one has jagged teeth and bent prongs across its claws. it is clearly a seasoned predator.

“when they defeat a pokemon you can see them get stronger.” kazimir, among others, will recognize this as the BEAST BOOST ability. what he reveals next has yet to be observed. perhaps, it is an ability lost due to their adjustment to this plane.
