the expression he wears is gentle, kind, and compassionate, but it isn't understanding — how could it be? he barely understands what she's feeling. he just keeps taking shots in the dark.

It's easy to misconstrue the words he holds, easier for her to simply lean into the world he paints.

It's cold, it's cruel, it manipulates her like a puppet on strings. Their laughter was forced, their smiles were faked, the kindness they'd shown was nothing but a honey trap.

He wears kindness, willingly surrounds her with a warm promise. The responsibility to love someone, to care for them as if they were of her own blood - Were those emotions ever meant to be considered a responsibility? Had she actually harboured love for them? Or were those emotions fabricated by a mind starved for intimate connections?

In the same vein, does Matias actually care for her? Or is he only doing this because it's considered the right thing to do?

this is wrong.

his words are misconstrued. they are not what he means and he can practically see her falling. but he offers her nothing, not even a hand.

if anything, he only further pushes her down.

were they just using me?

it'd be so easy to tell her the truth but in doing so he would only push her away.

and so, he tells a half-truth, a white lie, whatever it might be to keep her here with him.

"...they were."

he sighs, only now attempting to reach out to hug her.

"i'm sorry, eris."

after a pause, he continues.

"but i care about you, and so does eva, i promise."

ash (m) blaze, solar power - dragon pulse, inferno, hurricane, subtitute, rock slide, flamethrower

electrified teeth found skin and bone, just not his.

the zorua slipped out of the jacket in time, yelping as reiner's fangs sunk deep into it. it had been loud enough to draw attention, and it was what made matias tense out of instinct, anticipating what was to come.

his hand glided across his belt, both recalling and calling his pokemon in an instant. the charizard that appeared spread its wings out wide, baring its teeth at the luxray, protective of its trainer.

still, matias persisted.

"in kanto, you said you wanted to help. you said that i should stay alive until you'd be able to help."

he extended a hand out towards her.

"you can help me now, eris, by helping yourself. come home."

As if cowering behind his pokemon wasn't good enough, Matias continues to chip at Eris' stability, destroying her walls then offering her shelter in her time of need.

She looks to him for answers, but he knows that he can't provide one that she'll be satisfied with. Nothing he does will be able to piece her together, not while the one responsible for this still remains before their very eyes.

And yet, when Eris steps towards Matias, when she hesitantly reaches for the man's hand, he finds himself unable to move. Would he be stopping her from seeking happiness if he acts? What of the fragile heart that she bears? Would it be alright for her to leave without ever knowing the truth?

It simmers within him, then grows into a crazed yowl, echoing through the woods as he tugs the girl back into his reach. Electricity pours from him like a tidal wave, crackling with such anger and searing the edges of leaves and petals that surround. Eris screams his name but Reiner doesn't falter, his roar getting ever louder as the air begins to burn.

they were so close.

he reached for her hand and found nothing. he snarled in response, glaring at the one who continued to pull her away from him. it was only then that he realized why she could never find happiness. why she could never truly be free.

he'd have to deal with the problem later.

a FLAMETHROWER threatened but his voice was resolute.

"STOP."

electricity coursed, dancing across charizard's scales as it roared in pain. he took a step back, snapping a hand onto charizard before the two of them lifted off the ground.

the air burned as a HURRICANE started to grow.

but his voice boomed through it all.

"we love you, eris. you can always come home when you're ready to."
