He doesn’t have to, but he should, and he knows as much. And yet, the mere thought of being stuck in his office with mountains of paperwork sounds awful when he could be right here with Cian.

Mars turns to meet his gaze, and when he does, there’s the slightest of pouts.

”I should… I’d rather stay here, though.”

A sigh, and then, he admits to it – even if reluctantly at first.

”...I’ve been really busy lately, and it’s kind of been driving me crazy. Taking the day off with you yesterday really helped. This does too.”

He hasn’t been sleeping much either, but for now, he’d rather keep that part to himself.

as sad as it makes him, he understands how taxing mars' job can be at times, which is why he does no more than smile and nod when mars tells him he should head back to the office after this.

he could never relate.

he could, however, relate to being driven crazy by responsibilities.

There’s a lot Mars actually enjoys about his job, but things like those have good sides and bad ones, and lately, if added to all of the other stressful things going on in his life, it could be argued that they have mostly been bad.

Mostly because he can’t even work properly; his mind having been as if taken over by thoughts of that night. Of that pokémon. Of those words.

It’s a ridiculous thing to ask, he knows as much, because he too had thought things like fate and destiny only belonged in stories and epics and all things of the sort. He had thought it until that recent night, and now his own fate and destiny are things that are constantly in his mind.

At first it had felt like another nightmare, but then he had become certain it really happened, even if so many elements about it seem strange and felt like a strange dream.

It sure would help if Mars knew what pokémon he had been dealing with, but that’s not something he has figured out just (and he won’t until the soirée).

”The other night I stayed working late at one of the newer branches, so I spent the night away from Mauville. I woke up in the middle of the night and there was this kind of… blackout? It’s hard to explain but things felt really wrong.”

He sighs then, pulling away just enough to meet Cian’s gaze.

”When I opened the door, there was this pokémon there… pretty sure it was some kind of legendary or whatever. Just gave off that vibe, you know? It spoke to me, like into my mind. Felt super fucked up, but… It kind of sounded like a prophecy.”

Prophecies have always belonged in stories, and not in a life like his. And yet, here he is, talking about prophecies and destiny and things that he knows never went well at all based on the stories he used to read when he was a kid. It makes him uneasy, to say the least.

Circles are gently traced on the back of Cian’s hand while holding it, and word by word, he recites those few lines that have filled his thoughts ever since they were first spoken into his mind:

At this, a sigh, because the implication is obvious enough, and what follows is what’s most troublesome to Mars.
