Though Eris tries her best to visualise the swimming, it's clear to anyone that she's really going through some mental gymnastics. She squints, then stares into blank space, then turns her gaze to the still waters and up to the skies above. Yeah, most definitely doesn't click.

What does click, however, is Matias saying that he'll let go of her hands.

"O- okay..." Though she tries her best to keep a brave front, Eris does pale, still clinging on a little and letting go after a sharp inhale.

As if sensing her discomfort, a small Poliwag pokes its head from the waters, swimming over to her side and offering a display of a small fountain of water. It doesn't really do as much in suppressing her fear of the deep but the presence of another to watch her back does give her a little more security.

At Reiner's behest, Loppa waddles right in after them, standing up to full height beside Eris and patting both child and Poliwag. Should anything go wrong, she'll be the one to haul them to shore or so it seems.

She just prays that it won't get to that stage.

after letting go of her hands, he nods, then steps away and turns to sink a bit deeper into the water. it rises to his chin.

"alright. watch and learn."

he starts swimming, soon joined by a mudkip that surfaces next to him. it blows bubbles his direction, encouraging him as he swims in circles.

after a few moments, he stops, stands, then gestures at eris.

"your turn!"

Which is probably why she grips onto Matias the moment he reaches out for her, spluttering and wheezing as she struggles to catch her breath. He claims that the water isn't scary, but she'd probably have every reason to argue against it - To sink into a lightless deep, to have your air quietly run out and to realise that you have no way of breaking the surface... Her terror is as clear as the tears brimming in her eyes, mixed with the lake water that streaks across her cheeks.

Before she can sink any further or burn any more energy in her fervent struggle, she's lifted above the water by a Crustle from below, his rocky body providing a temporary platform.

How does she even copy his movements? Where does she start with all of this? Loppa might be trying to demonstrate by swimming loops around her, but even her limbs are far too stubby to see clearly.

before they can continue, a wild cramorant swoops down at them in a FURY ATTACK. matias tenses, but it's virizion who comes to their aid with her PROTECT. wisps of MAGICAL LEAVES fly out to the bird, blinding it enough for matias to capture it with a pokeball.

"thanks!"

he smiles at virizion, then turns back to eris to hold her by her waist.

"okay. i'll hold you up so you don't sink. try the movements again."

Eris is no exception to the rule, and it shows with how strangely she flails with every bit of movement. Even when Matias holds her up, she's panicking to keep her head above the water, kicking wildly as if the motions might just get her somewhere.

And maybe they do, considering how Loppa's steadily treading water by her side, blissfully unaware of any signs of discomfort that may be emanating from her trainer. An awkward kick, a rather odd swing of her arms - Bit by bit, she seems to gain her rhythm but all it takes is a splash of water in her face to break her tempo.

eris is like a fish out of water except in water. he does his best not to laugh because eris is probably anxious and suffering, but the sight is amusing. his amusement manifests in a smile instead.
