The Mamoswine can be heard before they even cross its path, and when taking the next turn, there’s no surprise on Mars' face when seeing the pokémon. It’s huge, and it hurls last chunks of ice around with its tusks as if it were nothing at all, trumpeting loudly when seeing them.

It seems upset.

It’s not him calling dibs, but him calling his pokémon to act, and so they do with ever-reliable speed. A PSYCHIC stops it on its tracks before it can attack them, and then Glaceon deals a surprising amount of damage to it with FREEZE-DRY. After all, Ice type as they may be, Mamoswine are far from immune to the effects of it.

Is it because of frozen mammoths and all that?

It’s more likely due to the fact that they’re also Ground type, but let’s go with that.

Once the Mamoswine is caught, the reasons why it had been moving chunks of ice around and why it seemed so upset are suddenly obvious. There, in the ice, is a hole to a small pool of water beneath, one that is likely connected to the sea.

In the water, a Dewgong swims, clapping its flippers as if amused by the capture of the Mamoswine. Had it been purposefully mocking it?

Thankfully for this Dewgong, they’re a species Mars likes quite a lot, and the same could be said about the Glaceon that approaches and greets the Sea Lion Pokémon.

They seem to get along, so maybe he should catch it, no?

Leaving the job of befriending it to his Glaceon, he watches until the Dewgong decides to approach on its own. It's only then when he throws a pokéball.

dewgong isn't the only thing residing in the small pool of water. once dewgong is captured, a seismitoad leaps out in an UPROAR, only slightly as TOXIC as matias is. [break][break]

as chaotic as it is, it quickly falls to virizion's swift LEAF BLADE, the grass-attack proving too much to withstand even for someone as tanky as sesmitoads normally are. [break][break]

it falls, fainted, and into a pokeball.[break][break]

Dewgong is a nice capture, and admittedly, also one Mars is kind of happy about.

Weaville, on the other hand, not so much, but it comes swinging its METAL CLAWS straight for the Alolan Raichu, so it clearly doesn’t deserve to just go on about its life as normal after getting beat up.

RISING VOLTAGE hits it as a pillar of electricity coming up from the frozen ground, and shocked as the wild pokémon is (literally), Mars takes advantage of the moment to toss a pokéball at it.

if only because of the FREEZE-DRY it possesses. but his pokemon are quick on the draw, closing the distance within seconds before assaulting the piloswine with attack after attack.[break][break]

How the hell does a Krokorok survive in a place like Shoal Cave? Like, seriously, pokémon of its type are known to dislike ice, and ice is all there is around them right now.

This is the question that comes to mind when the Desert Croc Pokémon wanders into their path, but instead of voicing it outloud, Mars looks at his Glaceon, the Icy responding by charging with a FREEZE-DRY much alike that of the Piloswine Matias just caught.

the sudden shift in temperature is noticed almost instantly. he quickly recalls virizion in time to avoid the SHEER COLD from the sealeo that knocks out the jynx in one, freezing her in spot. [break][break]

the same pokeball flashes open, and from it comes virizion with her sharp SACRED SWORD that downs the sealeo before it has a chance to get another attack off. [break][break]

jynx is recalled, and sealeo is captured.

The shift in temperature seems to have attracted more Ice Type pokémon to their vicinity, a large Crabominable soon appearing along with a Smoochum. The former looks intimidating and like it’s ready to pick a fight, but as it turns out, the latter is the one they should worry about, because it calls an AVALANCHE.

Mars' pokémon are quick to act, FREEZE-DRY creating a barrier of ice to protect them from the wave of snow, while PSYCHIC attacks deals with both wild pokémon.
