it's hard not to make a ruckus considering the size and weight of this heatran, but they still do their best to keep to themselves and to stay out of trouble.

but, like usual, they aren't alone, and matias shouldn't be surprised by now but he still is.

"oh. hello, we weren't expecting company."

he walks ahead of his heatran, who huffs in the background.

"What the fuck is that?"

Heavy footprints are followed by trembling walls. She can feel the vibration-- and the heat rumbling down the path she's taking. Her Pangoro grumbles in response, stepping closer to her shoulder to protect her. When the stranger comes into view, all Remi can see is red.

The man in front of the Heatran opens his mouth to say something, and while she can see his lips move and his eyes wander, her focus and her breath is taken away by the legendary Pokemon peering over his shoulder.

"Uhh.. what?"

And, behind her, trapping her between a molten rock and a frozen belly beard, is an outraged Beartic. With it being a few hundred degrees warmer in the general vicinity, he's losing his goddamn mind. And bears were pretty good at losing their shit with bellowing roars and sharp claws.

The woman's two Sneasel have scattered, spooked by the Heatran. Pangoro is the one to step up and wrestle the fellow bear, grappling claws and chomping down hard on the bamboo stick in his mouth.

He taunts, drawing the Beartic's attention to him rather than Remi or anyone else. Remi takes a step back, glancing over her shoulder to see what the stranger and his pet legend might do, but ultimately brings her attention back to the Beartic.

"We weren't expecting company either."

But hopefully, in the two bears scuffle, the lobbed pokeball would capture and contain the Beartic and make their band of merry men just a little bit smaller.

in his defense, there's a reason why heatran's out here in the cold today, and it's not simply to melt all the ice around them.

conditioning, as he normally does with his pokemon.

what use is a fire-type if it can't stand a little cold?

"well, i hope you don't mind some."

the nincada that appears can't seem to stand the heat radiating from heatran. even though it does its best to SCRATCH the fire-type, it doesn't do enough to pierce through its thick shell.

deciding to spare it, he captures the nincada.

"i'm matias."

their HUNT continues; this time with company.

"I mean, it'd be rude of me to say no right now."

And never mind the Nincada feeling uncomfortable beneath the heat, Remi starts to sweat too. She's overdressed to be so close to the heart of a volcano. She had prepared herself under at least three layers, and it had taken her way too long to squeeze into each one. Taking them off was not an option.

But hey, at least she wasn't this guy wearing his short sleeve shirt and giving himself a premature farmer's tan. Sure, he came prepared, maybe, but at what cost? Farmer's tans aren't really a look, man.

He introduces himself and she glances over her shoulder as she stands back up to her full height. The Beartic's pokeball is gripped in her palm and she tucks it away to hold her hand out for the newly introduced stranger to shake.

"Remi. I take it having a legendary Pokemon follow you is a day in the life, then? You seem pretty calm for someone in your position."

Somewhere nearby, the cavern walls tremble and pebbles bounce. Unseen, a wild Onix moves away from the noise and the warmth.

noticing how she's starting to sweat, he takes it as his cue to recall the heatran back into its pokeball. their training could be saved for some other time when they're alone, perhaps.

for now, he smiles, reaching out to shake her hand.

"oh. we were just training. i wanted it to get more used to being in colder environments."

with her hand still in his, it allows him to tug her out of the way as he ducks an incoming gliscor's ICE FANG. it snaps right over his head, and within a second, a pokeball flashes open, calling out his defense.

omastar's precise HYDRO PUMP is what brings the gliscor down and into a pokeball.

"my bad. didn't see it coming in time."

Decent, polite men were hard to come by. It surprises her where it shouldn't that he holds out his hand and offers a friendly smile. It actually makes her laugh, a loud exhale from her chest with flared nostrils and a smirk. But she takes his hand and shakes, once, for good measure.

"Sure, weirdo, but it's a fire-type. They probably don't even feel the cold. It literally has molten magma on it, unless I'm seein' shi--"

His hand grips hers tighter, but it is the aggressive pull that steals her thought process and leaves her immediately defensive. She tenses, even goes so far as to resist and pull back-- but he's stronger and he's caught her off-guard, so she stumbles into him.

"What the fuck?"

He ducks closer to her and she tucks her chin to avoid, only now seeing the Gliscor that swoops at him. Once the threat is neutralized, a Dewgong makes an awkward entrance and then exit, splashing water somewhere nearby. It disappears and Remi removes her hand from his, stepping away from him.

"Uh-huh.. so, who're you supposed to be? Kind of bold to be hanging out with a legendary like that."

There is a note of suspicion in her tone.

"i'm one of hoenn's elite four."

which might explain being around a legendary? might not. either way, he still smiles as he takes a step away from her to approach a pile of sand off to the side. even then, he recognizes it to be a palossand.

omastar's HYDRO PUMP wets it enough to weigh it down, unable to fight the pokeball that comes its way.

"i'm guessing you're not from around here?"

"Of fucking course you are."

Remi's lips pull back into a smile and then a barking laugh. She shakes her head, looks away and nods along to herself. It made sense, it felt like the natural thing. Who else would drag a legendary Pokemon around behind them as if they were tied to the end of a leash? That was the most reasonable thing in the entire world.

While he busies himself drowning a Palossand, Remi tuts around and discovers a Gible.

"What, do regulars not do a double-take when they see a legendary?"

She rolls her eyes, refocuses on the Gible. The small, clumsy Pokemon tugs at her heartstrings, but not in the good way. Though she hides it well, just the sight of the Pokemon catches her off-guard. Its beady eyes and little grabby hands and sharp teeth are a reminder, a painful one.

In order to avoid the elephant sitting on her chest, she makes short work of the baby dragon by allowing her Sneasel to wear it out. Around and around and around they go, with a little bit of ICY WIND to speed up or.. slow down the process. It confuses her momentarily why a dragon is in an ice cave.

Whatever.

"uh, they do, but i dunno. you just have a different vibe."

he can't explain it, really, nor does he want to. thankfully, he's pulled away by a distraction in the form of a cute little sandshrew. it reminds him of home, and it's for that reason that he points at it.

despite the SAND RUSH, sandshrew's ROLLOUT is met with omastar's HYDRO PUMP that collides against it, taking it out in one. a pokeball is thrown after.
