route 114's proximity to fallarbor makes for a dusty route. specks of ash occasionally fall from the sky, dotting avery and her salandit. it's a relatively quiet space, there are few trainers out. it doesn't take long for them to find someone else, however.

"...hi." she says. she's slightly off-put by the fact that someone would invite her to their party. avery may be rough and aggressive around the edges, but the wilderness can be dangerous, and sometimes only suvivable by another companion. she swallows her pride and nods, uncharacteristically demure. this person felt different...not to mention that the garbodor could probably beat the fuck out of them if it wanted to.

at least it didn't stink.

"my name's avery. yours?"

"i didn't know garbordor were so cuddly." she says. it offers her its 'hand', and avery couldn't bear to see it sad. she holds it. it's soft and pliable, but not slimy like she imagined. strangely cute.

she sees the two ground types at the same time the other trainer does. he doesn't volunteer his name, but he does ask her if she's on a walk. "yeah. i mean, i'm headed towards rustboro." she whispers, unwilling to provoke the two. she doesn't think they're at very good odds.

"what about you?"

"oh! what are you planning on doing in rustboro?" avery asks. she is not usually one for conversation, but matias makes it easy to chat. she sees the two pokemon at the same time he does. she finds herself gravitating towards the houndoom, not super hostile. she motions for her sanlandit to ambush it, using its small body to hide underneath the foliage, and slathers it in a poisonous VENOSHOCK and POISON GAS.

the houndoom's EMBER is weak and doesn't phase her salandit much. golem's already rolled away in mild shock, and before the houndoom rolls away, avery throws a pokeball at it. twitch. twitch. click. capture. she picks it up and stuffs it in her pocket before continuing their conversation.

"that's true. were you afraid of its stench at first?" she reaches for the garbador's hand again, wanting to idle in its cuteness. this was pleasant.

avery avila CAUGHT THE HOUNDOOM!

"ehh? that's cool. do you know karate or somethin'?" avery asks. at the gym no less. this guy must be some big shot if he's casually doing seminars or something. "i'm just travelin' around, ya know? wanna see the sights." she starts swinging the garbador's arms back and forth, like a little girl.

when they start attacking though, she neatly moves herself away, not wanting to be caught in the cross fire. the garbodor first casts a mean look, and then a gunk shot. she gets a whiff of the garbodor's stink, and while it's not pleasant, she has smelled worst. this was like city garbage, a smell she was already accustomed to. she probably wouldn't get a pokemon like that on her own, but avery didn't mind making friends with one, either.

"i agree with you there. have you ever smelled rotten fish? that shit's nasty."

she ignores the fraxure before her, letting it peacefully eat the grass underneath its feet.

"boxing? that's pretty slick." avery says, she smiles as she readies a fighting stance, and does some punches in the air, not paying much attention to the second part of what he said. she's gotten into a fair amount of fights herself, although that was more out of survival, and not out of a martial arts background.

she continues on with him, not paying much heed to the pokemon across.

"that's definitely true." she nods at garbardor with a grin. avery thinks back to the boxing. she wanted to go, but she doesn't know if she could even afford it...

"so you chargin' money for this workshop, or what?"
