Calling it singles day really is just rubbing it in her face, isn't it?[break][break]

Luka likes the pocky tradition much better. It's far cuter, and far sweeter in every sense of the word. Her shopping bag is loaded with boxes in several flavors: chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream...all of which she intends to share with her cutie Pokémon later on.[break][break]

There's definitely nothing pathetic about that at all.[break][break]

Satisfied with the results of her shopping, Luka shoulders her bag and prepares to head home. At least, until a head of starlight silver catches her eye.[break][break]

"Monsieur Derek?" Her head tilts to the side, eyes owlishly wide as she regards him with mild surprise. A moment later and her face splits into it's usual saccharine smile, and she eagerly waves him over.[break][break]

It's nice to see another single— erm, kindred spirit.

Though the surprise caught him off guard, eager feet carried him over once invited by the wave-like gesture. It was hard not to fixate on whatever it was slung over her shoulder. Derek would assume it's something girly, like maybe cute socks or something of that nature. But a closer look at the labeling on the bag made him question that theory. Maybe she had just gotten a few things needed for dinner, or dessert. This begged the question—what was a 'Luka dinner' like? Perhaps he would find out.

Derek's not entirely wrong. Nearly buying an entire shop out of their pocky stock is a super girly thing, right? Luka beams as she grabs her bag and holds it open to show off her purchases. Hoarding candy like a little packrat is...cute, probably.[break][break]

If not, then at least she is. "It's pocky day!" she chirps by way of explanation. "So I wanted to stock up! To share with my, um..." And now she flushes, realizing that she might sound kind of lame. "With my Pokemon."[break][break]

And what's a Luka dinner? Why, it's even sadder than a single woman buying Pocky with no one to play the game with. She can't cook— her meals are usually cup noodles or canned soup. Salads and sandwiches too, since they're hard to mess up, but even they manage to turn out a little funky in her hands.

The notion of enjoying them with pokemon never strikes a judgmental nerve for Derek to think much of anything of the instance. As if only able to function on a one track mind, his attention remains on the snack and whether or not Derek could get his hands on some. "Since it's some kind of holiday, maybe you could even convert me?"

Though it's something he'd never laid his eyes on until today, Derek doesn't miss a beat capitalizing on an excuse to spend some time with Luka. Unlike every other occasion where they bumped into each other, this moment had no extra persons to, in a gentleman's words, dilute the experience. That's not how he'd put it, though.

"You've never heard of it? I can't believe it!" Luka sucks in a mock gasp, eyes wide in a dramatic display of shock. The expression quickly melts back into soft amusement, and she waves a hand dismissively. "Juuust kidding. It's kind of silly anyways, and mostly just an excuse to eat candy..."[break][break]

It's just the kind of fake holiday an airheaded girl like her would enjoy. "But sharing is the most important part of it, I think! So I don't mind at all! Hang on..." There comes a rustle of paper as Luka sets down some of her bags and begins to rifle through them, glancing up at Derek every once and a while.[break][break]

"I'm trying to think of what flavor you'd like best," she explains. "Mmm...but honestly, it's probably best to start with the basics! You've never Pocky before, right? And everybody likes chocolate..." She speaks half to him, half to herself in an endearing sort of mumble. Eventually Luka straightens again, brandishing a box of candy with a grin.[break][break]

"Here you go! Consider it my Pocky day gift to you. It's just like, um, a little biscuit! And you eat it, and...oh, right! Y-you've probably never tried the Pocky game before either then, huh?" It's a childish game, the kind one might expect a schoolgirl to get a kick out of. But perhaps Luka is looking for an excuse to spend more time with her friend as well.

Derek can tell she's trying hard to be considerate of his preference, and though it's a little heartwarming, he feels bad Luka is wracking her brain over it even the slightest.

When she offers the chocolate flavor, he takes the package and gives it a thorough look over. "Are you sure?" If it was her only chocolate flavored pocky, Derek wouldn't want to deprive her of it for his sake. "I could just try one instead of taking the whole thing from you." That felt like the more appropriate thing to do, anyway.

"I'm sure! Go on, keep it! I like the strawberry flavor better anyways," Luka insists, hiding her hands in the folds of her skirt should Derek try to give the box back. "Besides, it's a gift. And it'd be rude not to accept, you know!"[break][break]

Though she teases, her lip juts into a pout. But same as before, she can't keep up the act long. A sunny smile replaces it as the tips of her ears pinken.[break][break]

"Mmm! The Pocky game is like, you know. I-it's silly..." It's her fault for bringing it up. Her embarrassment is no one's fault but her own. "You, um. Y-you hold one side of the stick in your mouth, and someone else has the other end. And, erm...you try to get to the middle without it, um, breaking."[break][break]

Nervous laughter floats between them. "See! L-like I said, it's just a silly little game."
