Paxton had initially rebuffed the call to action, believing it to be a prank his coworkers were playing on him. But after much laughing and snorting, they convinced him to head out to handle The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. This is what he got for volunteering to work extra hours. He trudged out to the scene of the crime noting another blonde already speaking to witnesses. He waved at her as he approached, taking off his hat in a quick greeting before plopping it back on his. “Afternoon. I’m Officer Concordas, Oldale PD sent me about a uh…” he trialed off, calm expression souring just a little. [break][break]

He was still convinced this whole thing was a joke the precinct was playing on the city kid. “A grinch who has been trying to steal Christmas?” he finished flatly. “I assume that you’re the animal control?” he added, noting that they’d mentioned calling someone to keep Paxton from absolutely destroying the poor poke-culprit. He wouldn’t let Joules do that, but considering they were his partner it made sense his new colleagues doubted him. “If it’s easier, just Paxton is fine too.” He added. His title was a bit of a mouthful.

"it's nice to meet you officer concordas! i'm francie myrtle with the rangers, representing silph company."

her own title was a mouthful, which she only realized once she had to take a deep breath after speaking.

"but you can call me whatever you want!" she responded to everything, including blondie, france, franciepants, fran the man, frannie bo bannie, etc. "uhhh, yeah, apparently it's a green trapinch. that's what people are saying. and it's very greedy. which, honestly, is a little strange cause they're not usually the thieving kinda pokémon."

she tapped her chin in thought, and then, shrugged.

"mm! it'll be fine. i've got a few lycanroc that can try and sniff out the culprit, unless you had other plans."

Paxton nodded to her introduction, though he frowned for a moment when she mentioned representing the Silph Company. He doesn’t press the matter, looking at the scene of the crime and then back at his partner for the day. “Well, Francie, good to meet you.” He said, eager to avoid titles altogether. “Green huh, pretty rare to see one like that” Unless the little bugger had gotten into some paint. He shook his head at her. “By all means, go ahead. I’m not too confident in the little Grinch leaving tracks for me to follow.” He said with a shrug. [break][break]

“At best it’s someone’s lost, purebred pokemon. At worst, the little thing found itself far from home. From here to the desert is a long way to travel for that small of a pokemon.” He added, letting the ranger take the lead. “Maybe it’s trying to settle down here? You know like making a nest.”

francie listened to paxton, nodding at the idea of a nest and shrugging.

"i mean, it's not uncommon for one to have just kept digging and ended up here. but it does seem very pointed, i agree. i'm thinking somebody might've trained it this way."

could have even been a rocket grunt for all they knew, or just somebody who wanted to make a quick buck. either way, she released her dusk form lycanroc, giving him a quick pet.

"louie, meet paxton. we're on the case of the curious grinch who is stealing people's presents so, let's try and get a sniff, huh?"

as francie pointed out the tracks, louie gave a sniff and started to follow the smell. as he did, francie waved for paxton to follow, keeping up with her lycanroc as he sniffed the trail out.

“Oooh, that’d be interesting too.” Paxton nodded at the speculation. It was a little more probably. Gifts didn’t exactly all make the best nesting materials. “Good t’ meetcha, Louie.” He said, giving the Lycanroc a police wave a smile. It didn’t take long for the dog pokemon to catch a scent. After a minute or two of sniffing around it picked up on the scent. He kept close behind the ranger, gesturing at his own partner to go high and keep watch from above. [break][break]

As Louie led them through, eventually Joules began to beep out a warning, slow so not exactly urgent but an alert nevertheless. “I think we’re close.” He said, looking over at his partner and their dog for validation. “By the way, do you intend to knock it out and capture it?” he asked before patting himself down for pokeballs. “Or are we herding it somewhere safe?” Joules beeped once more alerting the group that they’d spotted something. They were getting closer, Louie was right on the mark.
