Whether Derek wanted it or not, he stepped into a war with the Unown in Hoenn. To start, they had to log duplicates of each symbol. One by one, the report was being filled...

But so far, only a single contribution was made by Derek. His luck in finding them had proven to be nonexistent, but that had little to no bearing on whether or not he came out here looking for them. Defeated as he may have been, it wasn't enough to deter him completely. This was more important than anything, especially after he finally learned what they did to .

To think that such a small pokemon was so...significant.

Derek kept his pokeballs close, and his hands closer to their holsters yet as he searched for them in Route 116.

The wild Bronzong noticed Derek before he did it, lifting itself up from the ground warily in anticipation of battle. Having no real interest, the ranger simply passed the pokemon by, allowing it to continue resting. Or whatever it was doing.

Swift feet carried Derek further along the path. Though he knew better, doubt had begun to fester in his mind about the presence of Unown in this area. It wasn't like they were here to mingle with the population, or anything...

"Woah!" Derek is caught unsuspecting as he narrowly dodges the aggressive Bug Buzz of a wild Orbeetle. Reflexively grabbing for the pokeball at his waist, the Machamp inside is quick to deal with the problem once it's summoned.

"Randal, use your Rock Blast." Sending a flurry of rocky chunks at the pokemon, they battered against it with loud thumps, each as equally painful as the last. The Orbeetle did it's best to ignore the pain for a calm mind, knowing it would need to deal with Randal quickly if it wanted to win.

But the Machamp was quicker, closing the distance and swatting down the bug with an ice punch that began freezing the pokemon over from the point of impact. Even without it, the pokemon quickly fell unconscious. Derek used a pokeball to capture it before returning the Machamp as well. A third device revealed one of his avian pokemon, which quickly flew him to the nearest pokemon center.
