what little he remembers of bo is barely an afterthought. the name matches some common records, tracing back to the HOENN STAR TOURNAMENT. among the dozen of trainers he faced, fernando can barely remember anyone he wasn’t well acquainted with beforehand.

fernando goes through the standard procedures. smile, nod, even offer a handshake if the other person is so inclined. all the trivialities of showing proper etiquette to make what comes after as smooth as possible.

good enough, anyway. he knows that much. not because of anything league related. for all the league’s faults, it’s easy to forget the stability they bring to the region. complaints of ‘they can do better’ discount the fruits of their labor. on that end, fernando is thankful for their work. it’s why he continues with his endeavor, no matter how flawed.

“they did, thank you.”

he dismisses the gesture with a kind smile and a wave of his hand. while boruta remains standing, so does he. rather than wait for permission, he looks for the cue of his action. he cannot sit until the other does. j

“hoenn will enter its cold period soon,” it’s both small talk and cuts straight to business. “do you have plans on how to handle the pokemon migrating to the east?”

ONLY WHEN PROMPTED does fernando oblige. one leg crosses over the other and he’s comfortable despite his rigid spine.

“good to hear,” he repeats to himself.

eyes trace along the lines of the route. while fernando understands the region at a high level, as well as supply chain, to say that he knows every street is ridiculous. at the ground level, he’ll have to take bo’s word for it.

“rusturf tunnel is the move,” he confirms, having experienced the migration twice before.

with both confidence and an actual deliverable, it doesn’t take much to induce confidence. fernando is pleased despite having to make a personal trip here.

“sounds like you have everything in motion,” he says between clasped hands. “i’m glad.”

the white of his teeth peek out from the thin line of his smile.

“tell me, how much of a hand did the HEAD RANGERS have in this. did you consult them on the matter?”

tickle him surprised. it shows in the inflection of his tone.

“you pass it through both of them?”

fernando’s opinion on Laurence Anderson is a mixed bag. he believes in lars’ allegiance to the cause. that much is assured between his tenure and personality. both those traits alone aren’t what make a leader. expert ranger, sure, but the skillset required to be head of office differs entirely.

and, as for the other ranger, well, his opinions are less than savory.

“well, i’m certainly surprised they get involved with such local matters. i take it they take care of you well?”
