spacetime distortions had inspired a mission outside of the labs. on a solo search for choice relics in the slateport museum, she was playing thief for the day. they had been informed of meteno 99943 after showing a meteorite fragment to beheeyem. perhaps if an artifact from another time was shown to the unown...

such a discovery would lead to so many possibilities.

she slipped under doors and around barriers, virtually invisible save for the smallest occasional flicker of shadow. with great irony, she was stealth incarnate. literally one with the darkness.

the crash of glass breaking shattered the silence of the museum floor. clear for the cameras, an indiscernibly shadowy figure which had emerged from a corner of the room lifted a bone from its pedestal.

She should have never left the museum. Here, walking among exhibits long after their doors closed to the public, after having stayed late in an attempt to catch up with work, that is the thought that fills her mind above all others. This is where Lia belongs. No matter how rewarding her duties as a ranger, no matter how much she may enjoy her time spent out in the wilderness, this is where she feels most comfortable and at home…

But, if that’s the case, then why does she feel so uneasy as she walks in the familiar shadows?

There’s tension in the air, a foreboding feeling. One that finds itself proven to be true when hearing the unmistakable sound of glass breaking.

”What the hell…” Her voice is but a whisper, and no alarms ring to interrupt the silence that follows.

A Comfey bearing white and yellow flowers is released from an Ultra Ball, wrapping around her wrist, and with the quiet steps of one who has spent a lifetime practising archery, she approaches the area the noise had come from – alert and ready.

her shadow dissipated as she examined the bone, stepping back and pulling her phone from a tight pocket, and aiming a flashlight on the neighboring description.

while geochronologists are still uncertain, it is believed that this humerus of a kabutops may be upwards of 30,000 years old.

kabutops are some of the oldest known living species; however, they were once extinct. these fascinating rock/water-types have been brought to life again by the modern technology of fossil restoration...

sometimes, you could just feel someone watching your back. she turned, staring out of a black mask across the dark room. blondie.

”oh. hello there.”

should she leave? she was still considering. it would be a shame to break in and only take such a small haul. surely this woman would not be difficult to deal with.

she held up the bone.

”can you tell me anything about this?”

How is it that the phrase goes? There’s no honour amongst thieves?

Well, apparently 'no shame' should also be added to that, because the one that stands right before Lia on this night is utterly shameless. Who is she? Why is she here? Why is she trying to steal a bone that’s thousands of years old? A common thief would go for jewels or things of obvious expese, but this one did not, nor did she activate the museum’s security systems.

This is no common break in.
[break][break]
The realisation causes Lia to click her tongue. ”You’re not supposed to be here.” An obvious statement, of course, yet still one that doesn’t humour her insolent question with a response. The Comfey wraps tightly around her forearm then, and thinking fast, the historian reaches for one of the Ultra Balls at her waist. ”The museum is closed.”

Out of a red beam of light, a Decidueye appears with a screech, staring at the intruder while flying up closer to the ceiling.

Lia brings out her phone, ready to dial the number of emergency services, but her gaze wanders over their surroundings, knowing well that this woman is likely to care little for damaging the exhibit and that the same cannot be said for her.

Fuck. She’s at a disadvantage already.

honor was for suckers. lulu was smiling behind her mask. she even snickered a little. not supposed to be here. this was cute. with a shift on her hip, the ancient bone casually lowered at her knee, still in-hand.

”closed?!” she gasped. ”well, fuck me! and here, i thought i’d made it on time for the tour.”

she took a couple of steps closer, two bright eyes leering over a hidden grin. it would be too easy to simply disappear into the shadows. a little tequila had gotten her here, and it wanted to stay for just a little bit longer.

”is that your job? are you the tour guide?”

the bone lifted up a little again, this time to gesture at the decidueye.

”what’s the bird doing? do you think it scares me?”

There’s no need. There’s no point. She’s not playing the game this thief seems to be trying to get her to play. First the man in the woods (Belial Stone) and now this woman…

Lia has had enough of people like them.

She has had enough of their disrespect.

”Juniper.” When its name is called, the Decidueye responds, a quill being drawn from its wing as if an arrow. A shadowy aura surrounds it, filled with eerie energy, and when it is shot, it loops around the woman before hitting the tiled floor beneath – holding her shadow in place. A SPIRIT SHACKLE meant to prevent an escape.

”I’ll gladly guide you to the police station, though.” Lia bites back with vitriol, cold and glaring at the intruder just as she makes a call. ”Hello. There’s been a break in at the Slateport Museum.”

The Decidueye screeches once more, ready for potential retaliation.

somehow, no one had ever thought to try this before.

lulu stared briefly at the quill holding her in place, stunned. almost immediately, this reaction melted, combusting into a fit of rage. 0-100. she screamed, surely alerting anyone else who might have been in the building—but they would not need long.

a pokeball was thrown. an alakazam with strange, gleaming red eyes and a dark aura was released. beside it, rising through the floor, was darkrai.

it was more than just a shadow that reached for amelia, then. it was darkness itself, a cold black veil enveloping her to drag her under into the deity’s realm of endless horror.

darkrai can land a guaranteed sleep on ONE POKEMON or HUMAN once per thread.

as for her pokemon? the long-bearded shadow alakazam, gifted by the rocket boss himself, glowed red in its FRUSTRATION, made more powerful by its hatred. it was followed by a DARK PULSE from the shadowy appendages of terror incarnate.

The fact of the matter is, Lia doesn’t know who she is dealing with.

Or, more precisely, what she’s dealing with.
[break][break]
Twenty five years in this region, a year as a ranger, and yet she has never had a hostile encounter with an avatar before. In fact, despite knowing so much about their history and mythology, she has never even seen a legendary pokémon in person. So, when darkness reaches for her, she doesn’t know to recognize it for what it truly is: a deity’s power.

All she can do is gasp, eyes of gold widening as the world turns pitch black. It can’t be more than a second, maybe even two, but to her it feels as if a painful eternity: one filled with indescribable fear. A fear she has not felt since she was a child. Fear of the dark.
[break][break]
It all fades soon enough.
[break][break]
Limp, she falls to the ground, caught in horrid slumber induced by Darkrai.
[break][break]
The Decidueye tries to reach her side, to protect her, to save her. But, it’s too late. When it swoops down, a DARK PULSE sends it crashing down against an exhibit, causing glass to shatter and break. It’s only then that the security system rings with its high pitch alert, lights of a red tint flickering on and painting the museum in the colours of distress.

This also happens too late.

Even as the gentle scent of the Comfey's AROMATHERAPY fills the air, Lia won't wake in time. There’s no stopping the thief now, and the operator at the other end of the call is left to hear the sounds of a struggle, receiving no response to their questions about the situation.

the decidueye came crashing down shortly after its trainer, and lulu gave a crooked and disdainful grin as her shadow was released from the owl’s ghostly arrow.

”that will teach you to mess with me, won’t it, blondie?”

the lights came on, the alarms sounded, and it was time to go. the ancient bone clutched in her hand disappeared into the darkness along with her. darkrai billowing form floated down into the floor, leaving the comfey to tend to its slumbering trainer. it was deemed not a great enough threat to hassle with.

when amelia woke, they would be gone, leaving no more evidence of which way they’d slipped out and into the night.
