the four pokemon out on the field appear to be stronger than originally anticipated. alexander braces himself and so does his tangrowth, who suffers the full damage from the strong POISON JAB that stabs right into her arm. luckily, tangrowths are known for their ability to regrow limbs, so she quickly snaps her arm off to avoid being poisoned.

while her arm regrows, she uses the other to POWER WHIP the arbok away, creating enough space for her to INGRAIN into the ground. this is how they will win: by standing their ground, unwavering even in the face of danger.

stormy's stantler comes close to fainting; he sees it almost immediately and has to adapt to the battle as it unfolds. the inclusion of stormy's tean is a mess, he's not used to it, but he will do his best to accommodate them even if he doesn't want to.

"heal the stantler."

aromatisse has to expend her efforts this round to summon a HEAL PULSE that flows in the direction of the stantler. because of her distraction, it allows the ROCK SLIDE from earlier to connect on both her and tangrowth, damaging.

two more pokeballs pop open, reinforcing their defenses. aggression needs to be fought with the same venom, and what pokemon better than his eelektross: he slithers forward, liquid oozing out of his mouth as he COILS into a CRUSH CLAW on the wigglytuff. after taking damage from the MOONBLAST earlier, it soon faints.

chesnaught BULKS UP and charges ahead into the thick of the enemies before swinging his HAMMER ARM down onto the graveler.

scizor recovers from the JUMP KICK and shifts its attention to the chesnaught. closing the distance, he jabs with multiple BULLET PUNCHES.

arbok slithers forward once more and attempts another POISON JAB on the blissey this time.

the EGG BOMB manages to scatter the two men for now, but they will soon find their pokeballs. meanwhile, the sight of altaria flying away with stormy brings momentary relief for alexander, who slows his breathing as he continues to assess the battle.

Stormy is conflicted, that much is clear.[break][break]

The battle ensues beneath her, the Aromatisse and Tangrowth taking a beating while trying to keep Stantler standing. Meanwhile, Blissey blocks the Arbok's POISON JAB with an ICE BEAM. The frozen stream of power traps the snake's poisoned tail, and she grabs hold it of it, slamming the poison-type into the ground like she were the Hulk.[break][break]

A Chesnaught uses hammer arm on the Graveller, and it's unclear if the Pokemon went down in the fighting. What Stormy does see, however, is a surprise attack on Alexander's Pokemon from behind. Her hand flies out, tossing a pokeball. The massive form of her Charizard appears, a terrible roar reverberating in her ears. [break][break]

"Stop the Scizor!"[break][break]

Charizard dives from the sky, tucking in her wings as she plummets. She collides with the Scizor before it can land its assault of bullet punches, and she roasts the Scizor with a FLAMETHROWER. She eventually lets the steel bug go, a limp and charred - but alive - heap.[break][break]

She snorts, smoke billowing from her nose as she surveys the surrounding area. Her wings are spread protectively, effectively blocking sight of Aromatisse so that it can focus on its next attack.[break][break]

Altaria circles above thanks to Stormy's refusal to leave. He continues to scree and cry, looking for a way to aid in battle.[break][break]

Eventually, he sees an opening, and Stormy's encouragement persuades him to continue. While sort of disobeying, but also obeying Alexander's order to leave, the Altaria leaves behind a fiery DRAGON BREATH barrier, a blockade between the enemy and Alexander. It should provide a moment for him to regroup if need be.[break][break]

Then, officially, Altaria flees deeper into the city with Stormy atop his back. Stormy could bring back reinforcements.[break][break]

Stantler, after a brief healing pulse, is ready to dive back into the action. She charges towards the Arbok that Blissey has under control, slamming it with a ZEN HEADBUTT.[break][break]

reinforcements will not be needed.

as the fierce battle rages on between the two parties, alexander sees an opportunity to seize an advantage, and as altaria's DRAGON BREATH causes enough of a distraction, he calls out his gallade and points to the trees.

"take us over there."

minds linked, gallade understands the situation and places a hand on alexander's shoulder before TELEPORTING right between the two remaining men. appropriate timing, too, as they both manage to find their pokeballs.

taking a step back, alexander paves the way for gallade to swipe forward with swift PSYCHO CUTS: one flies and strikes the man in his chest, knocking the wind out of him and also the pokeball out of his hand, and the other hits the other man back into the tree. the knock renders him unconscious.

the battle rages on but alexander pays no attention to it, realizing that his pokemon has it covered with the help of stormy's stubbornness. instead, he lays his attention on the last man that's sprawling on the ground, crawling towards his pokeball. alexander won't let him.

kicking the pokeball away, gallade soon puts his feet on the man's back and pushes him against the ground, holding him in place. he grunts and squirms but it's no use.

"answer every question i ask."

it's not a request; it's an order.

Stantler is relieved to see that the battle has come to an end. The Gallade has taken control of the situation, psycho-cutting the two still conscious men and knocking out one, before pressing the other one into the ground.[break][break]

The normal-type makes her way to Blissey, brushing her antlers against her friend's pink skin, breathing a sigh of relief. Two men lay sleeping in the middle of the field, and one by one each of their Pokemon had fallen alongside them.[break][break]

With the threat averted, Altaria would eventually circle back to regroup with Alexander - there was no need to flee anymore.[break][break]

Meanwhile, though, Alexander would be left to interrogate the one man left still conscious without Stormy involved. Her Charizard would settle not too far away from Blissey and Stantler, smoke billowing from her nose as she glanced from side to side, prepared to jump back into the fight at any moment.[break][break]

When the dust settles, all that's left is the harsh tones between Alexander and the man.[break][break]

It would take a couple of minutes for Stormy to return to the Space centre, Alex had time to ask his questions without her nosing into business that probably wasn't hers. [break][break]

by the time alexander is done with his questions, the man on the ground has been handcuffed and properly detained. he follows protocol with the others knocked unconscious and sits over them, watching to make sure they remain under control until help arrived. those aren't unconscious constantly glare at him, as do their pokemon, but they know they can't retaliate.

doing so would just result in failure.

it's not long until the authorities arrive to round up the hostiles and their pokemon. their arrests make it four more for his total tally, but he's not one to keep count, unlike FERNANDO SILPH. what's important to him is that they are off the streets.

a slight pang of annoyance still eats away at him as he walks back up to the space center. the doors slide open and by then the scientists are done with their experiments. they nod their gratitude at alexander as he walks past them, though his focus is elsewhere.

"i appreciate the help out there." he says to stormy, approaching. "are you okay?"

Stormy has returned with the authority. She's sliding off the back of her Altaria, who has now reluctantly agreed it's safe enough for her to use her own two feet. There's heat in her cheeks though as she approaches Alex. [break][break]

While the officials step onto the scene to arrest and remove the bad guys from the scene, and while the scientists come out to notify Alex, not her, that they've finished with the experiment and the two of them are clear to go - Alex turns to speak to her.[break][break]

She's probably overthinking it and overreacting to what just happened. She's young, she's impulsive, she's childish.[break][break]

So when Alex asks her if she's okay, she's close to tears. But she's not sad or scared, she's angry.[break][break]

"Did you, Alex? Because it felt like you were pushing me away. You don't trust me, do you? You don't trust me to be your teammate, your partner. You'd prefer to do it yourself, I'm a liability."[break][break]

Charizard attempts to return to her, her tail wagging a little bit in nervous curiosity. Stormy waves the beast away, and the Charizard honestly seems disheartened by this. Her and Altaria move off to the side, and Blissery continues to tend to Stantler, who has since recovered for the most part.[break][break]

Stormy finds that her hands are shaking, and she breaks her focus on Alex. There's a pause, she's trying to calm herself. [break][break]

"I'm fine."[break][break]

almost her polar opposite in the moment, alexander is the epitome of calm. not once does he break character, heartbeat steady as he steels himself through the onslauglht of words that come his way.

but there is only one emotion that he is hit with: anger.

"you have every right to be upset at me. i understand why you are. but understand that in the moment i made a conscious decision to prioritize your safety over mine. and in that same moment, i was not confident that i could keep you safe."

taking a moment, he watches her break her focus.

"trusting people comes harder for me than others, stormy, you know this. so please try and understand it from my point of view."

calm and collected, his voice never wavers.

Stormy has always struggled to control her emotions. So when Alex responds to her with nothing but calm, collective tones, she's thrown off. And suddenly, she's angry with herself for being so insensitive and selfish.[break][break]

He's right, and she knows that. It's always been hard for her to relinquish control.[break][break]

The words he's speaking hit her in full force with their intensity, their sincerity. Stormy looks up as he admits his own difficulty to trust, and she finds her hands are running through her hair, tugging on the strands.[break][break]

"I do.. I'm sorry. I was just concerned for your safety, Alex. I couldn't lose you, too."[break][break]

There's desperation in her voice, her eyes are pleading as they search his face. She eventually finds it in her to approach him. Stormy reaches for his hand, but also reaches to pull him into a hug. She's desperate to hold the person she cares for the most.[break][break]

trust is difficult; it’s not something that comes easy for alexander, not when he was raised by a man who taught him that people always have their own agendas, and that it’s up to him to decide whether their agendas line up with his own. that particular mindset has influenced how he’s done business, how he’s run rustboro, but he realizes now that that mindset is a thing of the past.

to move forward, he has to trust.

“i am safe now.”

alexander wants to promise her that he will always be safe, that she won’t ever have to worry about him but he knows that isn’t true. security is good but not when it’s false.

warmth emanates as she pulls him in for a hug. his arms wrap around her, almost falling, as he places a gentle hand on the back of her head, caressing.

“i am right here. i am not going anywhere.”

her worries are valid; it only pains him that he cannot invalidate them.

A shaky breath rattles her chest as she takes a deep breath to settle her nerves. She folds into him easily, grateful for his embrace. She can hear his heartbeat when she leans her head against his chest. For a moment, everything seems a little less daunting.[break][break]

By now, the officers finally detain and take away the last remaining grunt, they briefly stop to speak with the pair. It's mostly thanks for taking care of the situation so efficiently, and for protecting the Space Centre.[break][break]

Stormy hardly reacts, only giving a dull nod. When she finally pulls away from Alex, letting her hands fall to grab onto his. She squeezes before letting go. [break][break]

"I know you can't promise that, but I'll hold you to it anyway."[break][break]

She smiles a little bit as she looks up at him. After a pause, she then returns all of the Pokemon on the field. One by one they're absorbed back into their capsules.[break][break]

"I think it's time we head home. I don't know about you, but I'm starving."[break][break]

To be fair, that was mostly her rattled nerves talking. She really just wanted to sit down and take a breather.[break][break]

the situation ends with his hands in hers, intertwined as he watches the remaining grunts be carried away to be processed. he is allowed a brief moment to reflect on the mission, to carefully assess what went wrong and while he knows the answer, he does not want to admit it.

smiling, alexander nods. for now, they are both safe.

"me too. we need to stop at the store on our way back, though. i am missing an ingredient."

though he may not look it, alexander is an excellent chef. taught by his very own mother, he learned how to cook from a tender young age.

before they leave the space center, he spares the scientists one last glance, nodding as they walk out the door. it may not seem like much, but the scientists are grateful for the protection they received today. their research went interrupted, which would prove to be vital.
