Eva only answers his question with playful grin. That’s exactly what she’s asking. As always, he doesn’t shy away from the thrill of the fight, “Awesome!” she cheers, rushing past him towards her office, “I’ll meet you outside!” No fighting in the clinic, there’s too many expensive things in here that could break.

Outside in the back, there’s a rather large grassy area. It’s a standard battlefield, meant to allow pokemon to display their natural behaviors during battle so she can observe. Eva cracks open a sphere, letting a Dewgong take one side of the field. She has strategically chosen this pokemon to test the strengths and weakness of her hypothesis about this strange Electrode.

“Alright, let’s start with an easy Aqua Jet!”

The Dewgong nods, barking an excited welcome to the opponent before undulating forward across the soft grass. The seal stands, caating herself in a vortex of water before lunging forward and sliding on the grass in a blur towards the Electrode.

now out in the open grassy area, matias stretches his arms, readying himself for the battle to come.[break][break]

"when was the last time we battled? was it in slateport at the tournament?"[break][break]

if so, then it's been a hot minute.[break][break]

the battle commences and the AQUA JET smacks against electrode, leaving but a mere bruise as it quickly rolls away before firing back an attack matias has never seen before — a CHLOROBLAST.

“Hm, yeah, I think it has been since Slateport,” that’s far too long.

The CHLOROBLAST is expelled in a flurry of green, swirling energy. Eva’s eyes widen, a bright smile curling across her lips, “Whoa!!” she gasps, watching eh Dewgong be blasted back with the force of the super effective attack. She chose a water-type to try and draw any grass-type moves out of the strange pokemon, “I knew it!” she cheers, pointing back towards the Electrode, “Ice Beam!”

The Dewgong slowly rises, shaking off the attack with a solid shudder down her body. The horn on top of her head begins to glow an icy white. Energy gathers, and blasts forward as an ICE BEAM towards the Electrode.

even if electrode could speak, it's not like it would tell matias. fuck that six-eyed binch.[break][break]

the ICE BEAM soars across, striking true. the impact sends the grass-type rolling backwards, ice spreading across its hollow body. this one definitely hurt more than the AQUA JET, and it shows in how slowly electrode's moving.[break][break]

"i think it's now a grass-type."[break][break]

but the familiar yellow beam of DISCHARGE might prove him otherwise.

That was nuts! Eva’s wide smile is still reeling from the CHLOROBLAST. A new attack, a new type of Electrode. Her head is spinning from the implications. This is career-changing stuff!

The ICE BEAM drastically slows down the Electrode after impact, confirming their suspicions further. Does she care replace the Dewgong with a fire-type?

No, they have these observations to go off of which will be adequate for now.

Electricity crackles from the sphere, reaching out and snapping at the water-type’s sensitive fur. The Dewgong barks in pain, baring her teeth before she rushes forward with a HEADBUTT.

“Wow! Looks like it’s both!”

Eva considers the biology, the physiology. How different is this specimen from the standard Electrode in those aspects? How did it maintain enough electricity in an essentially wooden body to dispel attacks like Discharge?

“Fascinating,” she whispers to herself, enamored by the possibilities.

the HEADBUTT sends electrode flying back only to land a few feet away with an ungraceful sound. it shakes the pain off, ready to fight, but matias stops it with a quick gesture.[break][break]

Another CHLOROBLAST shoots towards the dual-type. The Dewgong yelps in pain again, pushing back by the grass-type attack from the Electrode. Eva finds herself nodding her head, still smiling, “Electric and grass.”

Dewgong shakes off the last attack, righting herself but staying back near Eva. She coats herself in an AQUA RING to heal her wounds.

Electric and grass is a unique typing, one that makes the scientist rack her brain for another pokemon like it, “I think Rotom is the only other electric and grass type,” what a discovery!

Eva returns the Dewgong back to her pokeball, she had seen enough. She grins across the field at Matias. They have a lot of work to do.
