Berthold gazed upon the entrance to, what was quite possibly, the biggest man-made maze he had seen in his life. And all of it is located right here in Fortree City. “What do you think Eira, should we go in?” He looked upon the Frosmoth whom hovered by his side. It nodded, it shared its previous owner’s adventurous spirit. And they were here to experience Fortree and all it had to offer on this short trip.

And so they went in. Slowly walking along the paths until they reached an intersection. “Left…” he paused looking at the path that went left. “… Or right?” He looked down the right path. Neither path showed any defining features, so it was a hard choice.

Even Eira seemed unable of making a choice. “Oh well, you know what they say, the right path is always to the right…” He chuckled a bit at his own grandpa-joke and so him and his flying ice-moth began to walk down the path leading to the right.

THE FIRST CHECKPOINT

Your Frosmoth seems to blend effortlessly into the surroundings, wings fluttering amidst rays of sunlight as the first checkpoint of the hedge maze draws near.

The Roselia guarding this first of many choices nods, bowing as she steps aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

Your choice at the first checkpoint is decided; your path is set.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

As you advance deeper into the maze, flowers of every hue blossom and unfurl around you, as if celebrating your passage deeper into the leafy foliage. Sunlight spills forth through the crevices of leaves and branches, at last revealing a Lilligant who stands before you.

She elegantly curtseys with a smile, as if she has been long awaiting your presence. In her leafy hands, she holds a boxed gift:

Behind her another choice awaits you: a winding, looping path to the left, and a narrow and snaking path to the right.

A Roselia appeared before the trainer and Pokémon. “I suppose this means we were correct?” Berthold looked for hints from the Roselia but got nothing but an indication to go onward. And so he did alongside the Frosmoth which flew slightly behind him.

The further they got into the maze, the more flowers there seemed to appear. It was a beautiful sight, and both trainer and Pokémon took their sweet time enjoying the views and smells until another Grass-type stood before them. This time it was a Lilligant holding a small boxed present. The Pokémon held the box towards Berthold. He looked slightly confused at first, but at last, he muttered. “For me?” He took the box that was handed to him. “Well, thank you very much.”

Berthold looked behind the Grass-type and saw that the path diverged again. “Say, Eira. Do you think right will be the correct path again?” Berthold smiled towards the hovering moth Pokémon. It shook its head, clearly not a believer. “Ah, don’t want to feel responsible if we get lost, eh?” Berthold joked. “Very well, let’s go with Right again.” And so Pokémon and trainer began to walk down the path hoping it would be the correct choice.

THE SECOND CHECKPOINT

Your manners in receiving the gift make the Lilligant blush with pleasure, delighted with your acceptance of her humble offering.

Smiling, the Lilligant that guards this second checkpoint bobs her head in silent understanding, stepping aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

A gentle wind bearing dandelion spores draws you further into the maze, sticky with sweet pollen. It tickles your nose, leaving it no surprise when the bend turns to reveal a joyful Jumpluff standing before you.

She chirps with apparent delight at your arrival, hopping up and down upon a boxed gift that she urges towards you:

Behind the blue Pokemon another choice awaits you: a circuitous path to the left, and a deceptively straight, arrow-like path to the right.

Berthold noticed how delighted the Lilligant was, and it brought a smile to his lips. It was always such a joy to bring cheer to the world. And the happiness he now carried gave him the strength to carry on through the next path. Dandelion spores spread gently in the wind. His Frosmoth tried to dodge them at first but found it a daunting task that bordered on the impossible, in the end, she gave in and allowed some of them to hit her. Berthold made no such attempts, instead, he walked calmly through, letting some of them settle upon him.

It came as no surprise to him when the next Pokémon to appear was a Jumpluff. It was clear to him that she was as delighted to see him as he was of her. The Frosmoth though trying to seem delighted was more annoyed by the spores, which it was frantically trying to get off.

“Another gift? My, you are all so generous. Thank you very much” Berthold gratefully took the box that the Jumpluff offered him. He gave a courteous nod as he spoke. “Now, if you will excuse us. We must make a choice.” He looked at both left and right, both had their ups and downs, at least the right seemed deceptively straight. “Hmmm. Are we just going to pick right from now on?” A short glance towards Eira gave him no answer other than an uncertain shrug. “Well, I do believe we are.” And with that, they walked down the straight right path.

THE THIRD CHECKPOINT

The Jumpluff sheds more spores excitedly at your approach, much to the dismay of your poor Frosmoth.

The delight doesn't leave the Jumpluff as she confirms your decision with a decisive hop, skipping aside to let you enter your chosen path. The other closes abruptly in a curtain of moss and vines at the Pokemon's behest, unable to be retread.

Your choice at the second checkpoint is decided; your path is set.

THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY

You sense that this far in the maze, there are less and less other individuals nearby; you have gotten far indeed, and it shows when you come upon the faintly surprised look on a regal, dignified Tsareena's face. From her slightly bored appearance, the Tsareena has been waiting here for some time for company.

The Grass-type Pokemon strides forward towards you on her long legs, holding forth yet another box to award you for your efforts:

Behind the elegant Grass-type Pokemon another choice awaits you: a path to the left cast in the shade of a canopy of ivy, and a bright, sunny path to the right riddled with sunflowers.

To claim the Frosmoth was displeased by the spores would be the understatement of the year. But she powered through it like any Pokémon would for their trainer. Berthold didn’t mind it. Though neither stayed long, for they made their choice quickly and decisively.

They went right, once more blocked from ever returning to the previous path. Onward they went down the straight path of this Maze. Soon they found themselves in front of a regal, elegant, and dignified Tsareena. She was bored, that much even Berthold could glean from her facial expression. Yet, surprise washed over her as she realized she wasn’t alone. Much to Berthold’s amusement.

“Thank you very much.” With a courteous bow did he accept the box from the Pokémon. He felt inclined to speak further with the Pokémon but knew he would be wasting her time. “I hope it won’t be long before another traveler meets you. Fare thee well, M’lady.” He said he couldn’t help himself as the Tsareena had seemed so regal and worthy of the title.

He then turned his attention to the next path. The shaded path on the left or a bright sunny sunflower covered the right. There was only one choice to make here. He picked right.
