Lex is right. She doesn’t have to explain herself, and Kepler doesn’t ask. He imagines someone like Lex isn’t overly fond of experiencing fear and probably does so in a way that’s completely different than someone like him.

Mercury has ticked off the wrong Pokemon and an angry Samurott charges into their path. Merc dodges it with agility and then doubles pack to kick it twice in the head, stunning it long enough for Kep to launch a Pokeball.

"So what do you like,” Kepler asked, conversationally, “other than baking and busting heads?”

The subject is dropped, much to Lex’s delight, and is replaced with more small talk. She collects the pokeball that houses the Shiny Drifloon, and tucks it away in her pocket.

“Hm, good question,” what does she like to do besides busting skulls and baking? She didn’t really even like baking that much but she didn’t hate it.

The Beast’s shoulders shrug as she continues down the path, “I don’t know . . . steal stuff?” she did like the thrill of the heist, “And drink,” Nothing beat a good Johtonian whiskey.

Another Misdreavus appears. The Joltik quickly peeks over her shoulder to see if Lex is interested in the ghost. It’s a ghost . . . so duh. She gives the Joltik permission with a stiff nod. The spider sparks, sending another ELECTROWEB to trap the small ghost before Lex tosses another pokeball at it.

“What do you like to do besides science?” Maybe he’d give her a few ideas on hobbies to k=pick up, though she doubts they’re into the same things.

Work-life balance didn’t seem to exist in Rocket, that’s for sure. The thief turns the corner of her lips into a smile, “Sounds like we both have some self-exploration to do,” Lex typically found most of the Rocket’s to be unbearable to spend time with, but Kepler was growing on her. Slowly. Like a creeping moss. Even for being a scientist, which she didn’t trust, she wasn’t completely turned off by his presence.

“Maybe we should try something new,” she comments softly as she send the Joltik after the Haunter. A zap later, and a pokeball is quickly following it, “I have no idea what that would be though,” it’s not lke she got much free time from her Beast duties, and Kepler likely got even less working in the lab. Their Head Scientists were ruthless when it came to working hours . . . or at least that’s what she heard. Again, Lex avoided the labs at all costs.

Growing slowly like a creeping moss was an apt way to describe how Kepler affected most people. Perhaps the only more accurate way would be like a skin fungus, or rot from a wound: only dangerous if left untreated.

But then he remembers Lex’s obvious discomfort in talking about Lulu Flint and science and space in general, and is reminded that she, too, feels fear. If Lex really thought about it, she would probably have to say her favorite thing outside of work as spending time with Killian Decker. But is that really a hobby? Not really. But she is sure she would enjoy whatever it is they did as long as it was together. Between settlinginwith Deoxys and now Meteno looming over them, they hadn’t had much time together. Of course, Lex wouldn’t admit this ‘weakness’ to a stranger such as Kepler, but it’s no secret her fiancé is her world.

The Chandelure falls easily to the ELECTROWEB that engulfs it. It tries to escape it with fire but the electricity only cracks strong at the heat. Lex tosses another pokeball to snag the ghost.

“What’s Pinterest?” she asks casually, moving to retrieve that pokeball as well.

Ah, she doesn’t know what Pinterest is. What a world they live in. He is suddenly so envious of her life, detached from the norm such as it is.

But then, he knows each’s person’s connections are their own Fibbonaci sequence: boring and average and strange and foreign on each side of the spiral, but one and the same. All the same side.

“It’s like… like you know those corkboards that some people make for, like, weddings or projects or conspiracies?” Kepler explained, cocking his head to try and find a thread to follow she’d understand. “It’s like that, but, digital. So it’s a bunch of low quality heavily filtered pictures of… themes. Recipes to try. Places to go. Outfits. Inspiration for… stuff.”

This was such a tangent. Merc grabbed a Dreepy and Bam-Bam Flintstone’d it back and forth. Kepler zapped the stunned thing into a Pokeball.

Lex picks up the pokeball and tucks it away with the other while Kepler goes on about whatever this Pintrest is. She listens – kind of. Quite honestly, she’d not very interested in social media or the public’s fascination with it. As someone who is used to hiding, social media is the bane of her existence.

Themes of stuff? Sounded useless. Little did Lex know, it would likely be a good place to help gather inspiration for her wedding but the odds were likely that she’d never check out such a thing. Although, she could see the appeal for this into it . . . maybe.

“Doesn’t sound like something I would be interested in,” she decides, moving on from the Dragapult Keppler snatched in search of more ghosts.

“Ah, but that’s the magic of Pinterest,” Kepler says, voice taking on an airy, salesman like quality. “Sometimes you find things you didn’t even know you were interested in.” He flattens his hand and draws a little arc in the air in front of him. “A thousand cultivated images thrown at you slightly off-center that updates every time you scroll. Each one their own aesthetic. Think of the possibilities!”

He laughed a little before he could finish talking, realizing how ridiculous he sounded.

“It’s just a thought.” He tipped back the rest of his Bang and squeezed the can, crumpling it. “Anyway. I just needed to get some air. I’ll let you get back to your ghost hunting.”
