This isn’t a type matchup that Mayumi should win. Devoid of her chew toy, and bleeding slightly from her gums, she’s angry.

“No, they do.”

The Raichu prepares a thundershock, cheeks sparking, tail lashing.

“But there’s also… a lot of collateral damage?”

It is unprepared for Mayumi to come hurtling at it, bodying it into a wall with Superpower, enough to leave a Raichu-shaped dent in the metal.

“See what I mean?”

Mayumi staggers back, yellow streaks zipping over her skin as she jerks and twitches, paralyzed from static.

Cyg shakes her head and catches the Raichu before recalling the croc.

like how kabutops is precise with its AQUA JET and NIGHT SLASH to not completely dismantle the klink. it does just enough to down it into a pokeball.

Ah, restraint.

Cyg makes a face, as though it has just occurred to her that such a thing exists. “I guess…” she allows, trailing off into silence to watch Matias’ Kabutops do its thing.

She has, she realizes, only been focused on strength. Brute force has been the highlight of her training strategies for some time. Which can happen when half your team are too smart for their own good, and the other half are feral.

“Restraint,” she says, trying the taste on her tongue. She releases Eulalia into the corridor and the shiny Zoroark disappears in-- not a cloud of purple smoke, but it’s like her edges are blurred, and she’s leaving a lavender chemtrail in her wake. She re-solidifies behind a Honedge, disabling it with Night Slash and sending it skittering across the floor to rest at Cyg’s feet.

“I guess with restraint comes precision,” she says, taking a stab at this whole logic thing. She zaps up the Honedge as a second thought.

he nods, agreeing before looking down to feel something bump his leg. it's a plusle! matias could not even tell it's a shiny because the difference is slight but he picks it up all the same.[break][break]

"it's usually better to be precise unless you're up against a number of enemies."[break][break]

which in matias' case just so happens to be more than anyone ever should encounter.[break][break]

he boops a pokeball on its head.[break][break]

"we should train together sometime if that's something you're interested in."

When Matias offered training, Cyg’s ears perked up.

"Yeah!” she said, face breaking out in an excited smile, "Wow, you’d do that? That’s a thing? I’d love to.”

Eulalia darted around a corner, dodging a spray of sparks as a Manectric swept though the rough purple outline of where she had been standing, crashing its canid head against the wall. Eulalia materialized above it, delivering a sharp blow between the stunned dog’s shoulderblades.

Cyg was still grinning as she bounced a Pokeball off the Manectric’s shoulder.

“Thats… very nice of you,” she allowed, voice tinting a bit skeptical. Growing up impoverished taught her to look gift horses in the mouth. They weren’t afraid of using their teeth.

She also hadn’t yet recognized him as Matias Silph, Elite Four… well, elite. To her, he was still just Some Guy Where He Probably Shouldn’t Be. Just like her.

Eulalia catches a Beldum with an uppercut Night Slash and sends the floating hunk of ore spinning like a tiddly wink. Sparks shoot off where it crashes against the ceiling before falling loudly to the ground.

Cyg zaps it with a Pokeball in one hand as she fishes her phone out with the other. She doesn’t really have cell service down here, but it’s fine. “I’m Cygne, by the by.”

before he can get another word in, a scizor's WING ATTACK slams into his kabutops, catching it off guard. the rock-type is quick to retaliate with a BRINE. salt water splashes onto matias.[break][break]

he throws a pokeball and finishes exchanging contacts.[break][break]

"oops, looks like i gotta go. i'll see you for our training session!"

“Seeya!” she says, more excitement in her voice than she intended, as she watches him retreat down the long hallway, the incandescent light boreal against his form.

There’s the warbling, soft sound of Dark-type moves and a huge bang from behind her. Cyg turns to see a Lairon having rammed its head into the metallic wall with a missed tackle. Eulalia strikes the dazed creature with a myriad of Night Slashes, staining its carapace purple and cold.

Cyg bounces a Pokeball off its domino exoskeleton and strikes out for the surface.
