greyson had sat for days wondering how to approach a situation like this. he'd hosted celebrities, gym leaders, and even elite four members — never an ambassador, however. when wracking his brain became too much of a burden, he just took the decision of least resistance.

"ambassador," he says in greeting, a welcoming smile on his face. "it's a pleasure to have you. i assume you're familiar with the rules?" it was something he asked all of his challengers, of course. it was better to clear any confusions before the test begins; less drama that way.

"if you have no questions, we can begin immediately."

The ambassador nods in response. "As I understand it, I'm to undergo a practical exam of sorts. I'm allowed six Pokémon, though no more than two on the field at any given time. Though any more than that, I don't know." He adds, wondering how this simulation would manifest itself and operate. Taking a peek under the proverbial was sure to be fascinating.

"Actually, I was hoping you'd indulge my curiosity briefly," The royal admits. "What spurred you to design your gym challenge this way?" Hoenn was a roulette wheel of calamity and conflict, of course, so he imagined Greyson Connors had good reason to want to prepare Hoennian trainers for such things.

Even so, he wondered if there was anything more beyond that. It was certainly a long shot, probing for deeper meaning behind something when they'd only just met. Though he'd learned in his time here that almost nothing was quite the way it seemed to be at first.

greyson listens patiently, hanging onto each word just in-case he needed to correct anything. luckily, he didn't. hearing nothing, he decides to indulge the ambassador's curiosity.

"mostly the things i saw when groudon attacked. how ill-prepared many people were, and how even fewer then knew how to help them. i figure this gives anyone who wants it, a lesson in the... bigger picture, so to speak."

The GROUDON attack. Assuming they spoke of the same one, Remiel had been there, too. The bigger picture seemed to be ever-expanding here in Hoenn. It was a noble endeavor, the ambassador thought, to try and help others understand it. 

He wished many of his own soldiers had grasped it for themselves during the MEGALOPOLAN WAR...

"It does," Remiel responds with an appreciative nod, the memories of that bloody engagement rinsed from his thoughts for the time being— with the promise of returning for his nightmares later tonight.

"Thank you. I'm ready to begin."

confirmation leads to the beginning of the challenge. Remiel Calcifet is teleported into a city just as the evening glow of the moon descends. it's quiet; calm.

the night air carries the familiar scents of a nearby restaurant district; fried meats, freshly prepared dough, and so much more.

the atmosphere preludes no danger, no threat, and certainly no cataclysms. yet, beyond the high-rises and deeper into the city, a yellow and red flare erupt.

The first few moments of his challenge are spent assessing the surrounding scenery. Admittedly, in the back of his mind, he marvels at how realistic this cityscape in evening is. In the midst of an exam, however, the prince only allows himself that much before two separate FLARES streak across the canvas of sky ahead, glowing like CRYSTABLOOM against the shadow of NECROZOMA.

A DRAGAPULT is summoned shortly before he sprints and leaps off the edge of a rooftop. It catches him in mid-air, steadying its flight upward to allow the royal a moment to steady himself atop its horns. Then, with great haste, the pair shoot off towards the RED FLARE.

The colour red denoted a more intense emergency, did it not? If left unattended first, it could expire before Remiel and his Pokémon had a chance to attend to it.
