Mint frowned, glancing around at the gym. Even as sparse as it was, he didn't feel totally comfortable. "Not private enough, I guess." He had to be totally alone before they dipped into the more nitty gritty of their lives. But Maybe Jayden didn't care that much. Maybe his family life was great even if they were dead. He was silent, following along and nodding at Jayden as he explained their routine for tomorrow. That's kind of a loaded question but that's what he got for asking. Mint blinked, eyeing himself in the mirror and remembering when his face wasn't as full and his hair wasn't as long. His eyes darker, and wider, constantly alert. constantly at attention, constantly watching, waiting. Despite how sick he was, he was always ready to perform, speak when she addressed him. If she even spoke to him and not his canvas. [break][break]

The words echoe briefly as a memory plays over and over. She'd never hit him, no. But she'd never treated him as worth much. He wasn't as succesful as his older sibling. And the harder he tried, the worse he seemed to get. After six or seven iterations, you'd think that it'd be in their genes? [break][break]

"Fuck." Mint looked away trying to break out of that negative mental spiral and beat back down memories of a time he never wanted to remember. "No." He finally said to his friend. "Sorry, I- I asked." he said as he rubbed his eyes. "But I'm happy now. I'm happy we're friends. And that you help me out sometimes." Yes, he was happier. He said it like he was trying to convince himself.
