he hears about it as he passes through the city, from some civilians carrying idle conversation.

[break][break] a collection of plants being grown in the heart of petalburg woods. he wonders if it has to do with the crystal blooms that have been appearing - now - all over hoenn. curiosity grips him and he finds himself sneaking up the path towards the patch of dirt and soil that the civilians had been gossiping over. true enough, there are a few plants growing within the earth — but they do not have the same unnatural gleam of crystallized flora, in the same way that he'd noticed in sootopolis deep.

[break][break] they seem ... normal.

[break][break] but he's not a gardener. perhaps elijah gardner would know better.

[break][break] jayden decides to steal them — for science — but thievery done in daylight is hardly an acceptable task. he returns to the sub and dons an impersonation — a blond boy with sunstruck eyes, cherubic and innocent as could be. he treks through the woods in the darkness and comes across the patch of garden that had once been so occupied with so many civilians.

the appearance of new flowers were mundane news to the normal populace of hoenn. but to greyson it was a trove of new knowledge and beauty. the gym-leader didn't hide his love of gardening, no, not at all. it was just as much his passion as reading and d&d was, perhaps even more so.

he found the path to the clearing to be relatively empty and despite the disappoint he carried for those who were not as excited as he, greyson couldn't hide the relief at maybe finding himself alone.

greyson doesn't rise to the provocation. he stares down the other man, thumb kneading a circle into the pad of his index and middle fingers. his eyes narrow, slits of violet like small beads as he contemplates his next move.

the stranger makes his first.

he wasn't quick enough to respond. breeze, however, was. a burst of EXTREMESPEED sends the massive canine forward at breakneck speed. blinking, greyson watches the FLAMETHROWER wash over breeze instead of the flowers. an INTIMIDATING but pained roar follows, and he furrows in brow in concern.

"breeze!" he calls after the fire-type, but the arcanine's attention was focused solely on the copy. his maw lifted up, and back, revealing the massive canines that could chew through steel. a growl vibrates behind the ivory cage.

"enough. any further and you can't walk this back."

Greyson Connors may not have fallen to the provocation, but his pokemon certainly did. heat scours the air in front of them at nyx's attack blasts the original copy. breeze takes the brunt of the damage and while it successfully protects aginst the garden that they were devoted on protecting, it allows jayden the perfeect timing to reveal his true intent.

[break][break] a shadow is cast across the sky as his dagapult reveals itself, soaring above. opening it's maw, the dragapult releases a series of DRAGON DARTS intent on putting distance between both his master and the league officer.

greyson's attention turns sharply upwards, eyes narrowing beneath the eclipsing artillery pokemon's advance. it was a clever ploy, he notes to himself, using the ghost-type as cover. they were nearly impossible to spot in this dense foliage. and that was before you took into account the fact they could go incorporeal.
