It’s good to be home and back in his arms. She missed him, she really did. Her heart may have shattered, but there was still a void that only he could fill. It feels good to hear him say it. He’s so independent, she sometimes wondered if he missed her. She shouldn’t have doubted it.

Eva doesn’t think about tomorrow, that’s part of her recklessness. She chooses to savor the comfort she finds now with him. That comfort comes as kiss. She’s all too eager to accept it, rising to the tips of her toes and reaching up to wrap her arms around his neck to close the space between them that much quicker.

The move is natural and comfortable. She’s wrapped around him and settled into his arms where she belongs. Strong, secure, he won’t let her fall.

Up the stairs and across the threshold of their bedroom. Despite this being far from the first time, it feels fresh, new, and exciting. Endorphins flare like a hot fire through her veins pushed by her pounding heart. Even the whole way to the bedroom she doesn’t stop peppering him kisses and clawing at fabric to leave a trail in their wake.

as usual, matias is the first to wake.[break][break]

the sun gently pokes through the cracks in the blind, light golden in nature, so matias quickly assumes that it's still way early in the morning. which is no different than his usual routine, of course, but he does wake up feeling slightly more rested than usual.[break][break]

not wanting to move just yet, perhaps afraid of bursting their bubble, he stays still, relishing the comfort of her presence and her warmth against his skin.

Eva sleeps well, better than she has in quite some time . . . until she doesn’t.

It starts as a small twitch while she’s curled up against him in crooked of his arm. But as the nightmare consumes her, it becomes harder to hide in her deep sleep. She shoots up with a gasp and wide eyes, her hair wild from the night before.

There’s panic on her face when she looks around, but it fades as realization settles in.

She’s home. She’s naked. He’s here.

Eva clutches the covers to her chin to cover her bare chest, as if that gives her some sort of decency. As the meteor approaches, the nightmares have become more frequent, contributing to her lack of sleep.

“I’m fine,” she tells herself and Matias.

unsurprisingly, matias isn't able to fall back asleep, so however long passes until eva finally joins him in the realm of consciousness, though her awakening is slightly more eventful than his had been.[break][break]

he rises, shifting to prop up on his elbow before reaching out for her as she had done for him countless times before.[break][break]

‘You’re fine,’ his voice should soothe her tension further. Lately, she’s woken up alone with flashes of her nightmare bleeding into reality. This wasn’t a typical nightmare; it wasn’t about the meteor. It was about him.

She settles onto his chest to let him hold her. The covers remain protectively over her as her breathing steadies. Eva drinks in his scent, letting it flood her with endorphins to counteract the adrenaline. Her heart pounds like a drum in her ears, muffling his question but she can guess what it is, “Yeah, but . . . I’m fine.”

his nightmares usually revolve around the same themes of violence, war, and loss. they cycle through each theme, lingering at times but never fading. just once, he wishes they would.[break][break]

Typically, her nightmare involved her failing. Failing to find a way to stop the meteor. Sometime it struck her Hoenn and sometimes dahlia goode’s plan worked, and instead it destroyed Sea!Hoenn. Either way, there were mass casualties and the end of their world as they know it.

This one was different. This was about Matias. Not losing him, watching him murder Eris Halla.

And there was nothing she could do to stop it.

“It was uh – Just a stress dream,” She’s reminded why she left in the first place. He wasn’t sorry, he wasn’t looking to change, he was just sorry he lost her. And with the promise of adventure and a well-placed touch, she fell right back into his arms.

But damn, it feels good.

It’s early, but the adrenaline has already made her anxious, “I should start getting ready, maybe shower,” she shifts away look up at the ceiling, happy to change the subject.

She can’t still have doubts. That’s not the right way to start things again if that’s the direction this is all heading. She needs to trust him because, as much as she doesn’t want to admit it, she needs him. The once independent Doctor that was always so sure of her morals and direction was someone of the past. There’s no way this is good for her but finding him again is the most alive she’s felt in the years without him.

It’s a double edged Doublade she’d cut herself on time and time again. Death by a thousand paper cuts. That doesn’t sound so bad in comparison to a life without him.

She’ll keep it to herself, suppress her doubt, believe she can change him although it’s a futile task.
