Instead his attention fixated on the Cobalion, and the apparent "conversation" Melody and it were having. "Well...I guess you brought something interesting for me to battle, at least." Reaching for a pokeball, Derek begins tossing it up and catching it in his hand as he walks further into the arena. "You already know the drill."

Turning to face his opponent as he finishes speaking, Derek hurls the pokeball forth to let loose Valus, his Nidoking. It's landing can be heard was well as felt through the ground, kicking up what little dust had finally begun to accumulate since his gym's grand re-opening.

Yes, they were. And that wasn't by chance. Derek hand-picked them to be as much of a nuisance as possible during this battle. And though Melody seemed to be the least provoking of Hoenn's Elite Four, that didn't stop him from wanting to send her packing.

The only problem was that it was extremely unlikely. Even so, his battle plan had already been set in stone. Now it was time to execute. "Valus, target the Primarina!" Though unbecoming of the proud Nidoking, it's efforts to flatter their foe could not be overlooked.

On the other hand, Derek's Machamp was dealt a hefty blow. The springtide storm was effective, and also a move neither of them had yet to experience. Fortunately enough, Randal wasn't some chump with a glass jaw. He shook it off and smirked before pacing towards the Cobalion with unchecked confidence.

As they'd soon find out, the Machamp was only willing to fight one versus one. He wouldn't interfere with the other's fight until one went down, signaling a victor.

"Swing away, Randal!

The command prompted a dynamic punch straight for the goat, which could pose quite a problem for it in the following moment(s)...

Damn.

He didn't expect both of Melody's pokemon to pull through the confusion first thing. Maybe one, but not the two of them. And to top it off, she doesn't allow the Primarina to go anywhere near his Nidoking. Instead the Cobalion makes contact with it's poison point, but nothing comes of it. Being pit against the type of pokemon that were his specialty was irritating, but also entertaining. Gotta love those steel types.

But rather than be here to watch the Cobalion in action, now was time for Derek and his pokemon to make their next move. "Randal, Bulk Up!" Before he could even finish, the Machamp began eagerly flexing it's muscles, straining them and taking in a deep breath in preparation for it's next move. "Valus, take the fight to that Primarina!"

This time the Nidoking closed in on Melody's pokemon, lowering it's head so that it could drive it's poison jab horn right into the fairy type.

Hah. It was nice watching her attack fail. Even better that it backfired. But he should've known this wouldn't be cause for the legendary pokemon to miss it's mark.

On the contrary, it's aim was true, and it struck the Machamp with a staggering blow. Randal kneeled as he was sent back, letting out a single grunt due to the sheer discomfort. "You want payback now, don't you buddy?" A nod of affirmation and the four fists beating on it's chest spoke louder than any words that would've agreed. Sliding back his cuff, Derek reveals the mega stone socketed at the wrist.

"Valus, keep it up! And Randal...give'em something to remember you by!" Another attack came out, this time in the form of a megahorn. While it may not be as effective, the water type surely wouldn't take joy in being poked a second time.

In the meantime Randal's own mega stone finished resonating, allowing him to assume his final form and exact revenge on the Cobalion.

Aided by the efforts of Cobalion, Melody's Primarina launched an attack that encompassed much of the arena. Lacking the means to shield themselves, both of the gym leader's pokemon receive their fair share of injuries. Though Valus suffered in particular, obvious by the fact he collapsed under his own weight. The Nidoking could no longer fight this battle.

Using a pokeball to retrieve the pokemon, Derek looks to Randal, who now shoulders the burden of fighting two pokemon at once. "You got all of that, right?"

If not for Cobalion's assist, the gym leader reserved a little doubt that the Primarina's attack would've been so effective. The mega-evolved Machamp nodded back towards it's trainer. "Then let's deal with it already." Curled into a tight ball, the Machamp cocked back it's fist and focused on it's remaining strength before dashing forth with a mega-powered dynamic punch.

"Just let it happen, Randal!"

The Machamp's initial struggle with Cobalion eventually subsides, allowing Melody's other pokemon an open line of attack. The HYPER VOICE resonates at an unecessary pitch, ruining Randal's earsdrums and even his internals to an extent. Derek tried to withstand it, but quickly clasped both hands around his ears as Melody did.

Neither of Melody's pokemon have fallen yet. Above all else, the Machamp has an image to maintain. An image of excellence and muscle. It's this unrelenting pride that keeps him going, and while the pain is startling, the loss of hearing almost provides further clarity.

His mission is simple.

Staring down the water type, Randal begins to glow hot with power, ignoring Cobalion and lunging forward to exact it's REVENGE on the Primarina that opposed him.
