a desperate gambit

THE ICY WINDS PICK UP. freya morningstar is right. The hunt has begun and with it, the blizzards of this desolate place.

Around them, frozen pokeballs lay broken and glued to the icy void. Forever-iced badges, unfamiliar and familiar, are littered around, half-sewn to tattered patches of clothing. Nearby, what looks to be a flash-frozen Guzzlord limb stands as tall as a skyscraper.

John Sullivan's ORBEETLE struggles to identify the incoming threat. In this everwinter, in this timeless and spatial anomaly, there are no specifics to latch on to.

However, it is able to discern a grandiose tower of rock and stone a long walk away. It stands slanted. Crooked leftward in a sharp splash of ice.

There, the Orbeetle detects some sign of life.

While no one is able to freeze in the MISTY TERRAIN, everyone and their Pokemon do suffer the residual damage of HAIL.

Perhaps due to the sense of danger in the air, Doug found himself a little too aware of his surroundings. The bodies around them, the pokeballs, the badges...

He found himself taking a knee as Garo worked, plucking a familiar, if rusted over badge off the floor. The dim light in the sky had little surface left to reflect off of.

"What happened here...?" He muttered to himself, looking around. He almost fell on his ass a moment later when he finally recognized one of the several gargantuan things around them as not a boulder or massive debris- but a bloody Guzzlord.

"What the-?! Ouch, fudge, crud, SHIT!" Half-way through his shocked cursing, he finally registered the hail consistently smacking at him, covering his head while wincing. "Ah, damn it! A little faster, Garo!"

At least the Misty terrain around them was keeping the cold at bay, preventing it from killing them before whatever was coming for them did.

Garo struggled against the inter-dimensional interference to the best of his ability, but ultimately, he could not pinpoint where exactly the threat was coming from.

In his efforts, however... he had somehow found signs of life in this desolate Earth. Naturally, Doug was the first to know.

"Wha- ya sure?" He mumbles in response as the telepath gives him the news, before turning to look into the horizon at their new goalpost.

"Garo has detected signs of life in that big ass tower!" Shouted Doug. "Dunno what it might be- but we can hide inside while we check, too!"

"Clear a path, Garo! Use Psychic!"

With its amazing psychic might, it wasn't a particularly hard task for the Mega Orbeetle to push aside vast amounts of snow and clear a path for them to run unimpeded- one that Doug immediately took to, sprinting down it.

"Come on!" He shouted at the rest, waving with his arm.

GENOCIDE

a desperate gambit

ON DRACONIC AND COBALION MOUNT, the party braves the blizzard. Hail and snowflake feel like kunai and anelace against the skin. The cold still penetrates through clothing. Howls through flesh and bone.

Thankfully, the MEGA KINGLER'S WIDE GUARD manages to stave off anything too injurious. Still, the chill everyone experiences is beyond anything anyone has felt before, save for freya morningstar. It is colder than the deepest part of the Hoenn sea. Colder than any mountain peak.

When they arrive at the massive tower, they find themselves dwarfed by its shadow. Before them, a dilapidated SKY PILLAR remains stabbed sideways into a thick bank of snow. Its size can not be understated. The party would look like Flabébé to the structure should it have eyes; thankfully, another presence acknowledges their puny size from the frozen dark.

Although the ground entrance is miles below, underneath the snow, above, they can see a broken opening of stone high on the tower. Perhaps, it was blasted apart by whatever has entered it.

Should the party go inside, they will discover collapsed floor upon collapsed floor. Rubble, ice and dusty debris.

Yet, they will discover Hoenn's RAYQUAZA, barely moving. Barely breathing, but coiled around an intact portion of a stone spiraling staircase. A long segment of its tail is encased in never-melt ice.

"What. What." Doug uttered dumbfoundedly, staring at the large green noodle coiled around the big ass tower, briefly forgetting about all of the crap going wrong around them as he began petting his Mega Orbeetle. "My dude, you're the man."

If the bug could've snorted, it would've; the youth was just stating the obvious now.

A moment later, Doug slapped himself out of his reverie.

With a sweep of his arms, 4 pokeballs were thrown, and 4 more Orbeetles were released unto the field. Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon joined Garo and spread out in a line in front of the young Captain.

"All of you, link up but remain close together! Star formation. If a pin drops, if the wind shifts, if a freaking pebble turns, I wanna hear about it!" The youth said as he walked across the file of Orbeetles, before sweeping his arm. "Garo, yer in charge! Move out!"

With that, all five Orbeetles began rising high in the air at high speed, linking their minds together whilst spreading out their senses, hyper-focusing on their surroundings.

With that done, Doug finally turned his full attention to Rayquaza.

Their charge looked like it was seconds away from becoming a ghost type; not exactly the visage of absolute, meteor destroying power they had expected.

How long had it been there, struggling to survive while dealing with whatever it was that prowled this icy tundra? Since the lighthouse incident? That was too friggin' long.

He was a step behind freya morningstar and skyler dross in the healing efforts as he advanced towards the dragon. With both them, but specially, with Eva Morales present, Doug felt they could definitely heal the guardian of the skies.

Taking in a deep breath, he closed his eyes.

This was easily the largest 'patient' he had ever taken under his care. A normal amount of scales wouldn't be enough... With a big guy like this, holding back would simply delay them.

He could feel goosebumps spread all over his skin as he grit his teeth and raised his arm in the air, the familiar sensation of the power that flowed underneath becoming stronger as it flooded his body, a neon magenta glow beginning to spread all over him.

And then, all around him.

The healing scales flooded the area around him like blossoms as his eyes snapped open, the usual black gone and replaced by Tapu Lele's gleaming neons.

Both of his arms slowly rose, and in response, the rushing scales seemed to all freeze in place. With a deep breath, the youth clenched both of his palms into tight fists, and in response, the large, sakura petal shaped scales shattered to tiny, gleaming pieces. And with another sweep of his arms, these gleaming mini scales rushed towards Rayquaza and began to cover its body.
