After the events of the tree things have been bugging him. Having been a long believer of pokemon are merrily tools, not that was going to change, within the tree there was a clear bond between pokemon and human that he wanted solve. What it was he couldn't really put his head around it, especially seeing as getting several of these Riolu to evolve was still beyond him. [break][break]

It was why he was bringing subjects of his own who could possibly help him. [break][break]

After bringing back another sample of the Crystal Blooms Pryde has put one in a tank to act like a pokemon with FLAME BODY would to an egg for the plant while the other he had he kept more in the open. Seeing if the two ways of holding it would effect them and how. After having them in order he had sent a message to Martín del Mar to see if he was free to help with a different project.

Despite how close Mars’ own office is to Team Rocket’s laboratories, it’s all too rare for the admin to venture towards that portion of the headquarter’s north wing. After all, aside from the times when he finds himself visiting Lulu Flint to take up her valuable time with theories and concerns about things neither of them fully understands, there isn’t much reason for him to visit the laboratories these days – especially now that Project Exodus has reached its goal and come to an end.

That is, of course, unless he’s summoned there, and on this day, that happens to be the case.

Ever punctual, Mars arrives exactly at the agreed upon time, clad in the same well-tailored suit he had worn to a meeting with his bank’s branch managers only a couple of hours earlier. By his side, a Persian walks, one of dark tail and paws that make her look much different from most members of her species. She does not seem like the most amiable of felines, but standing by his side, she’s calm and regal as ever.

”Doctor Pryde.” The head scientist is greeted with a faint smile and a slight bow of his head that comes as a sign of respect, eyes of amber wandering over the content of the laboratory before once more falling on Raphael Pryde himself. ”What can I help you with?”

Straight to the point, he knew he liked this man. While some of the less experienced scientist get nervous at the sight of the admin, especially with a cat. With Pryde's Pyroar that often roamed and watched them to see if they were making mistakes there was no need for another cat. [break][break]

"Grab the new subject will you?" Pryde looks to one of his grunts but they seem nervous. He gives a slightly more stern look, "Go." [break][break]

And with that simple orders they go leave to try and fetch what was wanted. After the old man gives Mars a smile, "Thank you for coming, tell me are you interested in science at all? Or at least familiar enough with the scientific method?"

As is a habit of the admin’s, he pays close attention to his surroundings; to anything that may stand out in the lab, to what is said, and to the actions of those present there. The grunt’s nerves and hesitation are not missed, and neither is the stern note acquired by the Head Scientist’s expression. Pryde always seems like a man who cares little for foolishness, and truth be told, Mars appreciates that about him.

”I often regret not pursuing science as a career, actually. Especially as of late.” It’s almost surprising to him how easily he admits to something he had never really said out loud until this moment. It’s true, in part, for while business is as if Martín del Mar’s lifeblood and something he truly loves doing, people can often be extremely interested and even passionate about things that are vastly different from their careers. Science is that for Mars, and that is something his research thanks to the Unown Report has made quite clear for Mars. ”I think banking suits me better, though.”

A smirk finds his lips then, and Mars reaches to pet the Persian that sits by his side. Bloodwit doesn’t purr, but she does lean into the touch, flicking her dark-tipped ears.

"If it makes you feel better its not something for everyone, even those who have studied to make it a career often make clear that it wasn't something they should've pursued in the first place," not only that but those in Rocket, in his experience, unless their goals fell in line with Rocket then there were just problems. "So you're probably happier," the man muses as he waits for the grunt to come with the subject. [break][break]

"It fills in two checks I'm studying in fact," he replies as he decides to fill the other in as he has a feeling it might take a bit. Might as well see if he couldn't ring the other in first. "How much do you know about bonds with pokemon?" Pryde questions as if curious on the other's take on it.

”Ha. I do generally consider myself to be a happy man.” That one is a lie, one that comes as smooth as butter and with an easy smile, but of course Mars would never admit as much. The behaviour is well-practised, a facade he keeps for all of the world – that of a man whose life is as close to perfection as is humanly possible. But, if that were true, would he really be part of a crime syndicate?

The question raised by Pryde comes as a welcomed distraction from thoughts like those.

”Bonds? As in between people and pokémon? I know they usually make mega evolution possible, which is a huge inconvenience, if you ask me, since it means I’ve had to dedicate more time than what I would have preferred to the pokémon I have mega stones for.” He sighs, yet a slight smirk tugs at his lips when remembering. ”It was particularly difficult to get my Urshifu to mega evolve”

However, that’s not all, is it?

Bonds matter in other circumstances, some of them which Mars is all too familiar with.

”Then there’s the pokémon that supposedly evolve through bonds… There’s a reason you see me with Kantonian Persian and not Alolan ones.”

That and aesthetics, of course.

Still, when glancing down at the Persian in question, she seems to be quite fond of Mars, especially considering how close to him she stands – almost protectively.

"Tsh mega-evolution," Pryde scoffs some having found the phanominon annoying himself. While he has come across a couple of stones that could be used for it. Both unidentifiable for now, he has no bond with any of his pokemon that could help with activating it. "Honestly of this project goes well I can hopefully manage something that'll allow that evolution without having such a ridiculous thing established," the head scientist reveals another aspect as to what he wants this bond study done. [break][break]

Though its nice to see that there are others in Rocket who also struggle with this phenomenon. [break][break]

"Fair enough but its part of why I'm calling you in-" before he could explain one of his men is smashed through his door having been thrown through it. From the door is a Riolu that has more of a purple tint to it. It's eyes yellow rather than the usual red. Pryde just seems amused as he doesn't do anything for the poor lab assistant, "Willing to take on a project of studying an infected pokemon?"

Raphael Pryde’s scoffing is not missed, and Mars finds himself chuckling lightly when hearing about the Head Scientist’s distaste for the intricacies of mega evolution. A shared sentiment, really. Yet, what comes next sparks that innate curiosity of his, and it’s in mild surprise that eyebrows are raised just so slightly.

”You want to find a way to do away with the needs for bonds?” Practical. Useful. It would open the doors for more power to become available to them without a need to invest so much time and effort. It’s the sort of thing Mars is all about, isn’t it? Efficiency.

Just as Pryde is explaining what all this has to do with him, one of his assistants is thrown right through the door by a rather unusual-looking Riolu. The sight makes the admin smile just so slightly in amusement, and next to him, his Persian’ gaze fixes Emanation Pokémon.

”Pokérus-Y, huh? Sounds interesting enough, though admittedly I’d never been the biggest fan of canines.” He’s, but as he looks at Pryde, that faint smile of his remains. ”What do you want me to do, exactly?”

"If I am able to provide a similar signal from Key Stone to Mega Stone then the need for the bond itself would be come a thing of the past," Pryde offers the reality he eventually hopes to make if this part of his study goes well. Pryde does get up now and goes toward the door where the Riolu seems stand offish as the old man checks on the out cold assistant. [break][break]

For now he ignores the other's averse toward canines as he gives the Riolu a look that seems to get the pup nervous enough and it crosses it's arms in seeming a nervous reluctance before Pryde looks toward Mars. "I'm looking for people to take in these Riolu and evolve them, seeing as their nature of evolution directly involves the bond I'm looking into, and not only that but the Lucario's aura ability is something of interest as well.[break][break]

Would you be interested in such a task, seeing as you are of a higher rank I'm willing to lend you this one that has been infected, as I'm curious to see how it develops in comparison to the others"

Mars is not a man who cares much for hoping things go well. When justified and deserved, he believes in the talent of those he works with, and when it comes to Raphael Pryde, there’s no reason for it not to be the case. He is head scientist for a reason, after all. The man’s skill in his field is out of the question.

Perhaps that’s why, despite how busy his schedule, Mars had made the time to come to the lab when Pryde had requested his aid. It’s not something he’d do for most people, but it’s a matter of equal parts respect and curiosity.

”You want me to bond with it so that it evolves?” He looks down at the Riolu, golden eyes meeting those of an all too similar shade. When looking at the pokémon, there’s something both cold and stern. Mars is not exactly the most affectionate trainer towards most pokémon, and he has high expectations.

”If it would help, I could make the time for it as long as it doesn’t get in my way… Would you be alright with me naming it, though?” At that, a brow is raised. ”When training pokémon and bonding with them, I find that this happens much easier when I give them a name. Ah, but I only do so with those that earn it.”

It's almost like a reward, in a sense. A sign of his recognition. Out of his pokémon, the useful ones have names.

"Well the sooner some get back to me with them, the quicker I should hopefully have them," Pryde chuckles as he is almost excited for the idea for them to return to get on with the next step of things. [break][break]

The look the Riolu gives is a bit of a defiant one, seeming to think their power too good to be so easily tamed. Though thankfully it seemed that it's attitude would no longer be Pryde' concern soon enough as negotiation tactics were working well enough. [break][break]

Though with the name he pauses as if to give thought. While he knows the answer he's given others, most he assumes have ignored him he is sure. "Normally I say no, they're tools and they need to keep their place," he gives his opinion in the matter, "However a little birdy has told me a certain someone may be up for a promotion," he gives a shrug with a small smirk on his features. "So who am I to deny you?" [break][break]

With that he does place the Riolu's pokeball on the table for the other, "Behavior collars are also available on request"

”Not to worry, I only ever name those who earn it.” He clarifies, but it’s Raphael Pryde’s next words that catch him by surprise. He doesn’t show it, of course, not in a huge or particularly notorious way, but eyebrows are raised when he looks at the head scientist.

A promotion? It’s not something Mars wouldn’t expect, given his work for Team Rocket. He knows his worth and even beyond that, he’s always one to expect greatness. But, what does Pryde know? What sort of information is he privy too? Mars has heard some rumours here and there, of course, but nothing concrete enough to discuss it as something that might be happening soon.

”I think that one’s up to our boss.” Mars jokes with ease, smirking. He takes the pokéball from the table, looking at it for a short moment before putting it away.

”I’ll let you know if I need one, but it probably won’t be necessary.”

He’s confident in his abilities as a trainer, but in his opinion, not every pokémon is worth training.

This Riolu’s worth is left to be determined. He’ll try, however. For the sake of Pryde’s research.
