walking alongside his wyrdeer, ollie is doing his usual rounds this afternoon. he hasn't been an official location yet, which often meant that he was dispatched to whatever area that is needed. today seems to be petalburg woods.

[break][break] a nice old couple at the entrance had given him a basket of bread and muffins when he'd saved their meowth from camping out on their roof.

[break][break] "oh hey there!"

[break][break] he spots an unfamiliar blond boy in the distance, and gives him a broad wave. "whatcha got there?'

[break][break] put it to ollie to act like everyone was his best friend.

"nah, nah bro. the plant! what is it?"

[break][break] the blond seemed like a nervous kid, not that ollie had minded. in his years, he'd seen plenty of similar folk. though none of the morales could have ever been labeled as shy — or at least ollie didn't think so — there had been a handful in his grade school class. all it took was a little bit of prodding on his end to get them out of their shell.

[break][break] leaning down onto his knees, he peers at the plant that the other was working on. his wyrdeer seems to have the same thought too, pushing his nose right into the plant.

[break][break] "oh!" of course he'd noticed the other's stare. again, ollie didn't mind. grinning, ollie stood back up again and patted the pokemon's side. "this here is mocha. don't worry, he don't bite."

"a gracidia flower?" ollie's head lolled to the side, looking oddly like a golden retriever head tilt. "what's that?"

[break][break] he blinks as the other motions to mocha. "huh? what'dya — oh! yeah, he looks kinda funny doesn't he?"

[break][break] the wyrdeer in question let out a huff, blowing air out of his nostrils. he shook his pelt, evident that he didn't like being teased.

[break][break] "don't know too much 'bout it, but some of the older rangers said it's a species called wyrdeer. or somethin' like that! i'll be honest, i wasn't paying too much attention hehe..." he rubs his neck sheepishly. "they were offering mexican in the cafeteria that day..."

[break][break] "johto, huh, that's cool. i'm from — oh wait! i never got your name. my name's ollie!"

"sinnoh, huh..."

[break][break] ollie had always wanted to travel the world, but as of yet, sinnoh was still on his bucket list. as was johto. when was Laurence Anderson going to take him on a romantic beach vacation?

[break][break] "that's real admirable of you, dude."

[break][break] he nods empathetically at the other, only brightening when he compliments his pokemon. "oh yeah, he's real cool. though, i think he looked much cooler before he got so old lookin."

[break][break] the wyrdeer huffs again, drawing a line in the sand with his hoof, as he expresses his annoyance with his ranger. but it's all in good fun, and he seems to calm down as ollie butts his head softly against him.

[break][break] ollie gives the other a bemused look as he bows, before dropping his arm around him in a one-armed hug. "yeah! we can take a pic all together." he fumbles for his phone in his pocket. "you good with a selfie?"

in perfect ollie fashion, he didn't seem to notice the blush on the other's cheeks or the apprehension in which he faced him. in the elite ranger's defense, however, it was quite sunny that day. it could've been a trick of the light!

[break][break] lips stretched into a broad grin, ollie struck a pose just as the shutter clicked and the blond turned to him.

[break][break] "oh, that's a great idea kee!"

[break][break] offering his hand out, as if to ask for the phone, ollie would then swipe through the phone and put his number in the boy's contacts as ☀️ OLLIE ☀️ before handing it back over.

[break][break] "that way, you can text me whenever ya want!"

[break][break] ollie had no problem making friends, and this guy seemed nice enough. plus he was a trainer too, which was always a bonus.

[break][break] he grins wide —

[break][break] "you already have my number and a pic of us. what more do ya need?"

"what! that's crazy!"

[break][break] not only did it sound depressing, it sounded ridiculous. no one in his life who had his back? ollie can't imagine it. not only has he always had his pokemon to accompany, but he made friends wherever he went. it was impossible to imagine anyone who didn't live the same life that he did. he pulls the other into another one-armed hug, squeezing his bicep. "well, ya got me now dude. we're friends, you got it?"

[break][break] pulling away, he brightens as the other asks him about his job. "oh yeah, i love it! well, i've only been back on hoenn for a bit, but kalos was super cool too. being a ranger lets you travel all sorts of ways and you can help all kinds of people!" his gaze sparkles. "why, you thinkin' of being one?"
