A spray of sand across his chest and legs made Barnaby halt his jog. Luckily the sediment hadn't gotten into his eyes - but what the hell had caused it to fly in the first place? Looking around, it didn't take long for him to see a bristled PURRLOIN nearby, angry at some perceived intrusion.

Sighing, Barnaby released one of his Pokémon.

"Étienne, scare off the riffraff, will you?"

With a mighty screech, the BRAVIARY rubbed his talons against one another, releasing quite the terrifying shink! of a predator preparing to attack its prey. The Hone Claws was a prelude to battle - something that the PURRLOIN along the trail understood well.

The cat stiffened, looking from human to Pokémon, before scurrying off into the bush.

With the PURRLOIN easily dissuaded, the journalist brushed the sand from his lower body before continuing on his morning jog. Étienne took to the skies, following at a leisurely pace above his master. Barnaby and the BRAVIARY both enjoyed the breeze running through their hair and feathers, respectively; time went by as if none had passed at all.

Soon enough, the temperature began to rise, shooing the fog away with it.

The newfound warmth brought with it another disturbance to their day. Floating across their path was a BEAUTIFLY, normally so docile but today for some reason this particular specimen was in a Rage. It's wings flapped violently, it's antennae were stiff, it's eyes narrowed, it's proboscis extending and contracting in what Barnaby could only assume was supposed to be a menacing gesture.

"Étienne..." The raptor needed no further prompting. Again, it warned the insect to stay away with a cautionary Hone Claws. However, this opponent was not so easily discouraged... instead, it flapped it's wings even harder to launch an angry Silver Wind their way.

That was enough to set the BRAVIARY off. He beat back the wind with impressive wingbeats of his own, which momentarily frazzled the BEAUTIFLY. Taking this small opportunity, the bird clenched his victory with an opportune Brave Bird.

The butterfly Pokémon was lucky to have not been crushed. It was, however, extremely injured and in need of medical treatment. With a sigh, Barnaby captured the thing and started to make his way back to Mauville City.
