Of all the things Elinor expected to be doing while in Lilycove City, going to the birthday party of a Pokémon wasn’t one of them. Technically she was not the actual guest of the party, but rather the plus one to her Aggron who had someone managed to befriend this Diva of an Eevee who was celebrating the day of its birth, outside under the bright sunny sky inside the walled garden.

While all the invited Pokémon were occupying each other. Elinor took the opportunity to walk among the other human guests. There was scarcely any she knew, in fact, she didn’t know any of them. Though she did recognize a few faces she had seen on some broadcasted Pokémon battles.

Alas, a few faces on TV did not a conversation make. And so she refrained from intruding upon their already ongoing conversations. Instead mulling over her appeared isolation. Maybe she had dressed too formally for the occasion, with her casual black and white suit, she stood out like a sore thumb among the more casually clad guests.

I suppose I do need to add more options to my wardrobe. She thought and walked towards the snack table.

apparently, matias had the same idea as elinor as he shows up at the birthday party dressed too well that it's almost unfitting for him. it's not like he normally dresses poorly but it's a rare sight to see him in a suit.[break][break]

after mingling with a few of the guests (he recognizes maybe two out of ten of them), he heads over to the snack table to join a familiar face.[break][break]

The Snack table was filled to the brim with all that the human and Pokémon heart could desire. From Organic whole wheat Poffins to dietary correct candy. And it was all free for the taking. She decided to pick up what appeared to be a chocolate muffin of some form as well as a complimentary drink. Just in time for her to hear the sound of a familiar voice.

“Oh hello there, Matias.” She greeted him with a smile. It was nice to finally see a familiar face.

“No, the Eevee isn’t mine.” She replied in a friendly manner. She did own a few Eevee, this one wasn’t hers. “My Pokémon is the Aggron over there.” She pointed to the huge bulking mass of Metal which was busy regaling a bunch of much smaller Pokémon, Eevee included, with a tale of daring-do. From what she could deduce it was currently telling them about that one time it protected itself and a lot of bystanders (an artistic interpretation) from the Falling Draco Meteors summoned by an Altaria under the control of a Pangoro.

“Are you the plus one as well, or do you know these people?” Elinor asked as she continued to watch the Aggron’s interpretation of that battle, too much applause from its much smaller audience.

she'd often attach a brief or a summary of some kind but more often than not he'd be too busy to read it. like this event, for example.[break][break]

virizion nudges her head against matias' shoulder before sending over a single MAGICAL LEAF to elinor. it's meant to be a greeting.[break][break]

Elinor gave him a small responsive nod. Acknowledging his answer, she wasn’t surprised by Matias’s surprise. He was an important guy after all, from what she’d gathered between their meetings up until now. Though she couldn’t help but wonder if it wasn’t a bit awkward to not be sure whether you were a plus one or an invitee. But she figured there was no reason to ask that.

Especially not when her attention was pulled away from the tale being regaled by her Pokémon, and onto the singular magical leaf which flew to her, clearly a greeting of some sort from the Green Pokémon which had appeared last they saw each other.

She gave it a courteous smile and nod, acknowledging its greeting and returning the favor as one would quickly do while amid a conversation. Before returning her attention to Matias. “Yeah, that’s probably wise. I haven’t had a lot of interaction with that Eevee, but it did seem like a diva.” Her attention couldn’t stay on the man for long. The Virizion had caught her curiosity.

“Matias, I am sorry, but my curiosity compels me to ask. What kind of Pokémon is that?” She politely pointed towards the Virizion.

he's so used to being around the legendary that it rarely occurs to him the magnitude of her presence and existence. it only proves that certain myths and fables are real.[break][break]

"she's one of the swords of justice alongside terrakion and cobalion. they made their presence in hoenn known during the tournament in slateport last year."[break][break]

matias chews on some food before continuing.[break][break]

Virizion? The name felt weird as she repeated it in her head. She had never heard of a Pokémon like that. But as she listened to the explanation provided, it made sense, given the way he spoke about it, she figured it was some sort of legendary Pokémon. Since she had never been big on religion. Having been taught it only as a tool meant to control the masses, she barely knew more than the basics, and the ‘swords of Justice’ definitely weren’t basic.

Elinor takes a bite of some of the food which she had absentmindedly picked while listening to the explanation. She gives the food a good chewing and swallowing before she asks another question. “So, does Virizion just follow you around all the time?” She looked curiously towards the Green Legendary Pokémon, remembering how it had appeared back during the Disappearing-Runner incident.

She would not fool anyone if she claimed not to be interested in the subject. Her attention was glued on Matias as he spoke, delving a bit into Avatars as well. Though she knew no more than the general public, she had sometimes played with the idea of being an avatar, but she had not the faintest clue of which legendary might even deign her a slimmer of their attention. Still, it was fun to daydream about it.

So caught in the explanation had she been that she was very surprised when Matias suddenly pulled a purple rose out of his blazer, handing it to her with a small comment about regality and splendor. “Oh, uhm thank you.” She accepted the flower, though her voice carried a hint of bashfulness. She figured there was no deeper meaning to it than as a sign of friendship.

“I’d give you a flower as well, but I don’t have any upon me.” She stated with an apologetic smile on her lips. Eyes turned to the Legendary once more. “Speaking of being an avatar. How does it work? How do they grant you powers?” her voice turned more enthusiastic as the questions left her, clearly very interested in the subject.

when no flowers are given in return to him, he feigns a small pout but in reality he does not care. while it would be nice to receive, matias cares little for flowers.[break][break]

her enthusiasm over avatars and legends is oddly sweet. he smiles in return, shrugging a shoulder.[break][break]

"well, when she finally grants me her powers, i'll be sure to let you know."

but that isn't the whole truth. he does have powers now, just not from virizion. the tattoos hidden beneath his clothing glow warmly.[break][break]

The small pout seemed far too sudden to be real. Even Elinor could deduce that, yet she felt bad for not having had a gift to give him, especially so when she appreciated the sentiment of the act.

Still, whatever feelings she might’ve had about the flower-giving were quickly drowned in her general enthusiasm for Pokémon-related stuff including stuff about avatars. She nodded enthusiastically when Matias promised to tell her about it when Virizion finally granted him avatar status.

She had not expected him to pursue the topic, and so seemed mildly surprised when he gave her the question. “Well, uhm. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t.” She replied. Some manner of self-doubt began to manifest in her mind, making her blabber on. “But let’s be real. The chances of that happening are slim to none existent.” She paused for a brief second. “And even should the opportunity to arise. I am sure there are better candidates out there. Besides, what legendary would choose someone like me? I am not delusional enough to think myself pure of heart, and I got the baggage of a broken family.”

She paused, realizing that she had overshared here. She took a brief moment to compose herself once more. She Looked towards Matias, then Virizion, and back. “I am sorry about that. It’s just Avatars are supposed to be something like heroic figures or future myths in the making right?” Maybe she had been looking at avatars through a far too idealistic lens.

She appreciated his patience. Though his words even more so. Maybe she would have the chance one day. Maybe she could dream. No, she would have to temper her dreams or she knew that she would fly too close to the sun and burn like a certain winged boy.

“You do make a compelling point there.” She looks towards the Virizion before returning to Matias once more. Watched as he delved into the finger food. She realized that she had completely forgotten about the delicacies on the table, and went on to grab one for herself. Enjoying the fine dining that it was alongside Matias.

“I suppose I never did consider the will of the Legendary Pokémon a part of the equation.” Elinor stated thoughtfully. Though the confession of Matias’s family life did pique her curiosity, she felt it bad manners to pry further.

It had definitely been a foolish notion to not even consider that the Legendary Pokémon out there had a mind of their own, especially so when her very own Pokémon showed very distinct personalities.

She followed the gaze of Matias as he looked towards the Virizion. Like him, her thoughts wandered to what it might be wanting, why it had not made Matias an Avatar yet when it seemed to spend so much time with him. Still, she spent this time thinking and chewing upon the food she acquired

She was walking deeper into her thoughtful rabbit hole when Matias pulled her back with a question. “A Legendary I am fond of?” She looked towards Virizion and then back to Matias. “My knowledge of legendary Pokémon is actually quite limited, so I can’t say there is a particular one I fancy.” She sheepishly admitted. Still, there were a few she knew off, like the Bird Trio, the Legendary Beasts, the Tower Duo, and the Super-Ancient Trio, and of course, now Virizion whom she had now met personally. But that was about it. Though she was certain the world held many more.

“Though I suppose anything elegant and or powerful looking would appeal to me. Something akin to Articuno, Lugia, Ho-oh, Groudon, Kyogre, or Virizion…” She looked towards the green Legendary with a smile. “Oh, but don’t worry. I am not about to try and steal her.” She chuckled quietly as she spoke reassuringly towards Matias. “I am sure I couldn’t even if I wanted to.”
