On the evening of May 31st, 2022 every listed Ranger's communication device from Cellular Phone to Pokédex to Xtranceiver would ping an active (!) priority notification.

Along with the ping, GPS tags to an allotted time; 04:09AM; June 1st, 2022.

Leaving Shoal cave and the unfortunate hunt for an Ice-type behind, Memo makes a few quick stops before he responds to his cousin’s summons (though he supposes in this context he is Head Ranger Game and not Sénon on his mother’s side). Fortree is a bit like coming home, at this point, given all the time he’s spent here in the last couple of weeks.

He’s bright-eyed on about six hours of sleep and he’s already been awake for, like, three, as Puck deposits him in a crowd of strangers, though one of them is bearing hot coffee and snacks.

“Did I miss anything yet?” he asks, recalling his Togekiss and popping some of his vertebrae in a big, twisting stretch.

The message had been clear. A priority mission of the utmost importance had been granted to her, and all other League Rangers. Elinor wasn’t about to forego the chance of proving herself to the organization, and Laurence Anderson in particular. But then she read the meeting time. And an audible groan echoed throughout her apartment for a short second. That was way too early.

Alas for all the mental complaints she did when she received the message. She still appeared on time in Fortree City on that fatefully scheduled day of June 1st Not one second later than 04:09 AM. Bright, cheery, and clearly well slept. Dressed in accordance with all Ranger regulations concerning their uniform, as well as a small waist-bag filled with the essentials supplies, such as emergency supplies, a coffee-filled thermos, and some other things. Long pink hair tied into a neat bun. She'd look like she came straight out of one of those Ranger-recruitment advertisements.

She walked towards the gathering of Rangers. Sipping upon a cup of coffee she had poured into one of those fancy non-spillage traveling cups. By her side, a massive Avalugg followed. Peering towards the other Ice-types gathered among the group. It seemed the group was already getting well acquainted, and not wanting to interrupt them too much, she merely gave them all a waving greeting and a fresh and cheery “Good morning.”

Normally, Lars would be somewhere drifting in the nether void of dreamless sleep—ever since the time he’d accepted that evan fader was gone, and no longer physically returning he’d willed himself to stop having weird imagery dancing in his mind’s eye after his head hit the sack.

…which, unfortunately, was usually around three in the damned-ass morning.

Look, he had difficulty sleeping at an earlier time.

So for the loud alarm to go off more or less an hour into his unaware unconsciousness, well…

If there was one thing that anyone should avoid, it was waking up someone who was smack-ass in the middle of REM sleep!

“Che cazzo…” he grumbled as he grabbed his PokéGear and read the notification, before rolling his eyes.

‘Clearly.’

‘I know. What in the absolute fuck.’

‘Why so early, though?’

‘I… am gonna give him a piece of my mind. Maybe in private, though, considering everyone’s headed there.’

‘Fair.’

What other choice did he have…

Some scant minutes later (thanks to the Lynette Teleport express) he would arrive next at the designated gathering point…

…the grumpiest mf’ing person present, by far.

What did draw his half-asleep brain’s attention was the presence of all the Ice-types so far; particularly his cousin Elinor Anderson’s Avalugg companion.

“Red… y’better have a damned good reason for calling this so early in the morning,” he grumbled, hair dishelved and basically a mess. He’d practically rolled out in the… well, ollie morales would recognize what the hell he’d accidentally showed up dressed in.

(Definitely not the Hoennian uniform, that’s for sure.)

The scowl was visible on his face for the briefest of seconds; and for a few moments he rambled something in ~~Italian~~ Alto Marean, brain still not fully online…

“Qualcuno ha l'espresso?” he rumbled a few moments afterward, running a hand sleepily through his hair and absolutely refusing to open his eyes because fuck that shit, he was tired!

(He… was definitely going to have to call in later. Head privileges and all.)

“Wait, fuck… anyone got an espresso?” he belatedly translated, just in case anyone (or everyone, really) gave him funny, weird-ass looks.

And if anyone was sharp enough to notice… he didn’t have an Ice-type accompanying him. But there was a valid explanation for that…

the appearance of even more rangers made ollie light up even more if possible. he seemed to be absolutely glowing when Laurence Anderson showed up; the two hadn't seen each other in years.

"nah, no expressos but we do got some good ol' cheap sawsbuck coffee! my favorite place in evergrande's still open. can you believe it?"

When she woke up this morning, she had not expected to be going on a mission with Laurence Anderson. So when he showed up, even though he looked like someone who’d barely slept and definitely didn’t want to be here, her excitement increased ten-fold.

Still, she tried to contain her excitement as best she could. As she sent Lars a cheer-up smile and a “Good morning, Lars.” The excitement caused her to completely forego any pretense of formality between her as a low-ranking ranger, and him as the Head Ranger.

Alas, she would have to disappoint Lars as he requested Expresso from the people gathered there. The coffee she brought was black and homebrewed, figuring it would last longer in her thermos if it hadn’t been mixed with a lot of stuff. She was about to offer Lars some of it anyway, but someone else was faster. A small tinge of disappointment upon her face, though she quickly hid that away, to not make it obvious.

The energetic person introduced himself as Ollie. She took note of the familiarity with which he addressed Lars, so she figured they were friends. Of course, Lars had friends outside the family, it was only natural.

“Greetings Ollie, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Elinor.” She gave ollie morales a polite bow as she introduced herself. It was then that she noticed the Snover who walked around offering treats. “Thanks.” She gave the Snover a kind warm smile as she took one of the offered treats and allowed it to be on its way.

Meanwhile, the Avalugg gave off a low rumbling greeting, letting everyone near Elinor know that it was here too. Because it didn’t want to be overlooked just because it looked like some sort of iceberg decoration.
