THE SEARCH FOR KYOGRE

THE REGION IS WEAK. its power wanes as the essence of life is sucked dry by nefarious forces. mewtwo may not have been born with a connection to this land but even it can feel the disturbance.

the creator was right: balance must be restored.

so it continues its pursuit of those who should be defending it. if they cannot rise up to the occasion then it will stand in their place. for this world cannot fall.

that is its purpose. that is why it lives. that is why it searches.

seek out all pokemon…

the damp chambers of SHOAL CAVE house the activities of a certain cult. their water and ice type pokemon enact a RAIN DANCE that they hope will flood the cave and spill out onto lilycove city. as sure as the tides rises so too does mewtwo arrive.

“huh,” one of them says when they finally notice the levitating pokemon.

where is it?

mewtwo raises it hand, tail swishing back and forth.

where is the it?

a PSYCHIC blast is launched at the ceiling. it explodes, breaking away years of lime stone and rock formations. stalactites fall onto those below, a peaceful warning compared to the pokemon’s preferred choice of demands.

where is the titan?!

a pair of voices resonate within the minds of all present. they will hear its demands. they will hear its voice.

After her experience at Meteor falls, Penelope was hesitant to follow another cultist group, especially into the mouth of SHOAL CAVE. It was basically a one-way death trap, ready to swallow her up for good. Alas, against her better judgment, she still went charging forward, as she did before.

Even if that thing came, there was another chance to document it. The world had to see it.

Situated far back into the cavern, the reporter carefully peered out over the jagged rocks that covered her position. Again, her hands were occupied by the camcorder she brought along, as she made note to document every little action the cultist group did in the effort for their 'god'.

When she heard the initial reaction break out from the group, she immediately knew it was the source: it was back. Penelope gritted her teeth and forcibly shoved the camera at it. Its psychic powers were strong, but with a bit of experience now under her belt, it was more manageable than before. Same with its display of strength.

She's not on the trail of anything, not seeking out legendary beasts or creepy cults.[break][break]

Such is the usual way of things— Luka is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.[break][break]

Still, it's astronomically bad luck for seashell hunting to beget a disaster like this. Luka hears only the muffled screech of collapsing rock and voices shouting, but that's enough to draw her attention. A cave-in is dangerous indeed, and people could be hurt! Without a second thought she rushes in to help, foregoing common sense and her own safety, as usual.[break][break]

Water streams out of Shoal Cave in rivulets and promises to only get deeper from there. Luka frowns, but remains undeterred. She merely releases her Vaporeon to scout ahead while she takes up the rear.[break][break]

Bella Luna's water absorb allows her to navigate the cave with nary a problem. She weaves through the water like a needle through lace and reaches the main cavern long before Luka can slog her way there. But upon discovering the scene in front of her she remains hidden, only the slightest refraction of light indicating her presence.[break][break]

Luka, on the other hand, is far more conspicuous. Water laps against her calves as she sloshes and splashes, and her Bewear makes even more noise at her side. The cute bruiser lifts rubble with the ease of flinging pebbles, clearing a path through the debris.[break][break]

"Hey, hey! Can you hear me? Is anyone hurt?"[break][break]

Her voice echoes along slick cave walls but her only answer is a cacophony of frantic shouting. Suddenly, one of the cultists bolts past her, wide-eyed with terror. He clocks her in the shoulder and she goes down, falling backwards in the water with a mighty splash. Gasping and spluttering, she stands up and staggers forwards, wiping water out of her eyes as she stumbles into the main cavern.[break][break]

Her eyes open. They fixate upon the terrified miens of strangely cloaked figures, then trail upwards in the direction they're all staring.[break][break]

Her face goes white.[break][break]

THE MATTERS OF MAN matter not. the pokemon has only one goal.

where is the titan, it repeats, louder and more demanding.

this time, it learns to be proactive. with the groudon cultist, their pokemon did quite a number to it in combat. if not for Isaac Merlo’s interference, the tables could have very much turned due to their sheer numbers.

which is why a PSYSTRIKE blast berates those below it with impunity. concussive blasts of pure kinetic energy prey on pokemon who end up disoriented by the collapsing ceiling. whether they belong to the cultist or luka chêne makes no difference.

the pokemon can’t tell them apart.

Destruction ravaged the pokemon's path. It saw no difference between friend and foe, seeking out the one thing Penelope couldn't figure out.

Why was it here? What did it want? Zooming into a close-up of the pokemon (?), the woman ignored all signs of the pinkette struggling into the scene, or the possibility of danger coming toward her. She was much more focused on something else.

After a second of capturing the footage, she pulled down the camcorder and replayed it for herself, aiming to compare it to footage from before.

The strike hits everything in it's path with indifference. Luka's Vaporeon, still concealed underneath the water, is able to slip away with nary a scratch and remain hidden.[break][break] But her Bewear is not so lucky. She manages to punch her way through several boulders only to be hit directly by the psystrike and is immediately knocked out. Luka winces as she recalls the bear, and her heart sinks to see other prone bodies lying in wake of the powerful attack.[break][break]

Whatever this thing is, it's angry. And worse, it's very, very powerful.[break][break]

Luka still believes, perhaps naively so, that no Pokemon can be born evil. If this creature truly is a Pokemon, they might be lashing out due to fear or righteous anger— though it really doesn't matter. The titan they speak of means nothing to her. But their rampage cannot be allowed to continue, for at this point the cave might collapse and doom everyone inside. The best course of action is to subdue the most obvious threat and worry about the creepy robed figures later.[break][break]

Knowing the risks involved, she still chooses to release her Musharna for help. "Plum!" Luka shouts over the sound of falling rubble, "Hypnosis, please!"[break][break]

At least her methods are more peaceful than most; she doesn't want to hurt whatever is rampaging up there. Of course, there's every chance the creature will interpret her actions as a direct attack regardless.

WHAT PENNY WILL REALIZE is that the pokemon seems to distort the recording. the attacks show up just fine. so does the environment and background. but when her view pans to the pokemon’s body, the playback seems to fizzle. like a magnet brushing against the inside of a computer, its silhouette becomes raw static.

should she try the same in THE CLOUD she’ll realize that the cyber world has the same effect. it’s more potent there, leaving her with nothing but an odd audio clip. should she compare those experiences, someone with enough experience may be able to wager that the reason why is different. similar but not the same.

as others evade or counter attack, her musharna’s HYPNOSIS lands without a hitch. the psychedelic waves sneak past the chaos of battle and the creature seems to slow down. drowsiness comes after it turns around to find the source but by the time it can locate the target the pokemon has fallen asleep. it drops from the sky like lead, landing in an ugly pile on the floor as the cultist find a moment of peace.

“capture it,” they yell as what’s left of their pokemon turn around to attack it. whatever damage this creature has inflicted is quickly returned with a vengeance as a crowd of pokemon look to eliminate it before it can wake up.

Debris of battle loomed all around as attack after attack whipped past the reporter. Taking the occasional second to duck down, she did her best to capture it in it's entirety, even if it might've been futile.

Only after a sudden hit of hypnosis ring out did she react.
[break][break]
"Shit."
[break][break]
While she had no ponytas in this race, when all the cultist's pokemon bared arms against the creature, she couldn't help herself from reacting. Quickly, a Mr. Rime materialized beside her.

"PROTECT," She whispered.
[break][break]
And, as she did so, a thin barrier took its place in front of the creature, attempting to at least shield it from some of the incoming flow of damage.

Even if it was for nothing, even if it gave away her position, she'd rather the creature survive than let a group of random ass cultists have their way with it.

The creature goes down.[break][break]

For a moment Luka merely gapes, astounded that her plan had worked. But it's a short-lived victory as the cultists surge forwards and attempt to take advantage of the opening she created. And for a moment, her head is simply filled with television static. She doesn't know what to do next, hasn't honed her reflexes into a sharp enough point.[break][break]

A moment too late, she summons her Hatterene to try and mitigate some of the damage.

"Parfait! Use Pro-"[break][break]

But another barrier is erected before she has time to finish the command. Luka glances around wildly but doesn't notice Penny directly through the chaos. Counting it as a blessing, she focuses back on the cultists instead, eyes narrowed as she regards them.[break][break]

"What the heck do you think you're doing?" she shouts in a trembling falsetto. "Ganging up like this isn't fair! You could get people hurt, flooding a cave like this!"[break][break]

It becomes obvious very quickly that the group doesn't care, and her shouting goes ignored. But actions speak far louder. Still hidden amongst the waves, Luka's Vaporeon manipulates the waters in the flooded cave to her advantage, creating a large tidal wave that crashes into the cultist group, scattering them like bowling pins.[break][break]
In the meantime, Plum hovers over the prone purple body. Unable to resist, the Musharna's dream mist spools out and encases them, swirling spirals reaching out to envelop, caress. She attempts to delve into the creature's dreams, curious if they'll hold any clues about this mysterious being's origins, their motives...anything.[break][break]

“IT’S THEIR POKEMON,” is the general consensus as both PROTECTS rattle underneath a slew of attacks. while the barrier holds, for now, how long will it last against so many trainers and their respective pokemon? like glass, it shatters when the attacks become too numerous. for they are mere individuals pit against a gathering of a celestial cult.

luka chêne’s VAPOREON strikes a crucial blow against the trainers. this particular environment serves them well. however, they are not the only ones adjusted for the water. many of the pokemon on the field happen to be aquatic as well. comparatively, the splash does little. some even WATER ABSORB the refreshing bath.

as for her musharna, when it dives deep, what it sees is its own pokedex entry. nothing in great detail but at the very least recognition of the pokemon, species, and a quirk blurb. despite it being asleep, the mewtwo has portions of itself split off and look to swallow the cause: the musharna.

There were far too many cultists for one surf to wash away. Knowing this, Penelope bit her lip and sent out another poke ball spiraling out from her pocket, releasing a giant pink lamb from its clutches. Confused, Remy gave out a short bleep, but the general ruckus of their surroundings quickly helped catch him up to speed.

"Thunder," The trainer pleaded, pointing directly at the inches of water the vaporeon helped pool around the cultist and their aquatic pokemon. The Ampharos was quick to comply, letting out another bleep, this time much louder, as an electric arc shot out from its pink bulbs and towards the cultist.

While that occurred, the reporter's attention returned back to the...pokemon? Or was it one of those ultra beasts she'd read about? SHe hadn't quite figured it out, even after witnessing its strength twice. Tapping Mr rime's shoulder, she asks him to use CALM MIND on the floating creature, hoping it'd help. Somehow.

The use of rushing water isn't as effective as she had hoped. Luka clicks her tongue as the barrier of protect shatters, quickly trying to come up with another solution. But someone else is far quicker on the draw, and Luka whirls around when she hears the shouted command.[break][break]

"Madame...Livy?"[break][break]

She wants to ask when the woman arrived but right now it doesn't matter. Instead, she just flashes a terse smile and turns back to the fight, observing the clever way PENELOPE LIVY had used the rushing water to her advantage.[break][break]

Use the terrain. Be clever. Luka screws her eyes shut for a moment, thinking harder than she has in quite a while. The water lapping at her calves is so cold though, and she can't help but shiver. Her eyes flash open.[break][break]

"Bella Luna! Use blizzard!"[break][break]

Her Vaporeon stands upon the waves and takes a breath. When it's released, a powerful, chilling wind blows towards the cultists. The frigid air makes contact with people and pokemon both, but most importantly, the water beneath their feet begins to freeze. Luka can only hope it'll be enough to get some of their opponents stuck in place. Maybe then, they can have a proper talk.[break][break]

In the moments of distraction this provides, Luka once again turns around to face the group's target. Her face twists with confusion as small clumps crawl amoeba-like away from them— is it part of their body? Are they injured?[break][break]

(Plum, in the meantime, has floated up and out of the way, trailing tendrils of dream mist behind her.)[break][break]

"Use life dew," she instructs Parfait in a whisper. The Hatterene wrinkles her brow and stares down at her slumbering target in distaste— the vibes coming off this creature are awful. But after a moment her clawed appendage extends, blasting the creature in the face with a jet of healing water. It's not kind...but it's effective, in it's own way.[break][break]

It doesn't matter to Luka if her magnanimity goes appreciated or not. All Luka can do is hope that a small act of kindness might help this conflict end peacefully.[break][break]
