salt sprays against them and in the background, she can hear wingulls squawking. they sound distant, as if they're retreating.

another voice enters the mind. it's... different. harsher, demanding, wrong.

it's not a solid theory, not one she's necessarily proud of, but she knows it holds some merit. exactly how much comes later in a distortion, with pictures splashed against walls the same way the barrier did prior. the future doesn't help her here, though.

Despite the psychic affinity, it did not seem to be a mind reader. Paxton tensed, almost bristling against the threat of capsizing. His brain seemed to fire off trying to come up with a back up should him and Illie go under and if he had any pokemon that could help move them back to Evergrande.

He looked to the scientist in disbelief. He hadn't actually heard this one before. But then again, he and Illie didn't really talk business. It was a little more casual. He liked her golems and he had thoughts about them but that's really it. "You do?" he asked totally surprised. It's less disbelief and more genuine curiosity. After all, she was one of the heads of the League's science department.

A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

THE BOAT STILLS. water continues to swirl beneath them but should they peer over the edge, they will realize their small vessel is no longer subjected to the ocean’s waves. it hovers, just inches, above the sea. held in a stasis that reflects the pokemon’s interest.

it drops from the sky and lies level with their boat. it’s still a good distance off but it no longer domineers over them from above. they are on equal grounds.

the creature relents. waves settle back into a soothing rocking motion and she releases a shaky breath she hadn’t quite noticed she’d been holding. tension eases quietly from muscles soon after.

her eyes don’t stray from the creature, no matter how she may want to share a look with paxton.

no, it deserves her full attention, her full mind.

”palkia.”

it’s quiet, as if she’s betraying a part of herself for uttering the name to escape a drowned death.

”someone is using palkia to keep everyone here isolated.”

Like music soothes the beast, Proff. Reyes seemed to soothe the alien beast. It calmed down just slightly. Paxton stayed rigid, eyes moving from the thing talking to them to Illeana and back. His eyebrows furrow together for a moment before relaxing. Yeah, that made sense. A legendary with the power to manipulate space. That was such a vague description of the feats it had displayed and myths that'd been penned of it. [break][break]

But then again, legendary sightings were increasing and members of the Creation Trio had been seen in the Cyberchase incident. "That and the meteor speeding up...? Dialga I presume, Professor?"

PALKIA, the pokemon repeats. DIALGA echoes too after paxton adds another name into the mix. what little context and explanation they provide, it is enough. for what the pokemon does not understand, it instead will rely on brute force. surely, others will have heard of these two. and, if not, then it must find another way.

POKEMON.

and with little prompt, the pokemon takes off, soaring into the skies before darting into the horizon of hoenn’s mainland.

His expression is hard, not relaxing even as they stood on their boat in calmer waters in relative safety. "Yes...for the most part. You?" He returned Joules to their pokeball, glad his partner didn't have to contend with that beast. "We need to report this immediately." He added, insistently. Sentient? Psychic? If it was let loose on a city? No, the sooner the League higher ups knew the better.
