CRASH! Kommo-O's Thunderpunch connects, it's super effective! Dropping Messi from 50 to 0. The Cinderace flies back, dazed and electrocuted, as Callan returns him back into his Pokeball. Despite his CInderace being hurt, he was very happy about Elinor's prediction and switch in.

"Well done!" Callan called, as he unclipped his Pokeball again. "You predicted well and took advantage of Cinderace's Libero ability to knock it out with a type advantaged move." Callan tossed out his Pokeball, this time, it would be his Obstagoon, truly.

Kommo-growled victoriously as the Cinderace was defeated. Elinor celebrated as well, though she kept it more modest.

She felt a slight blush rising to her cheeks as Callan complimented her for her strategic thinking. “Thank you.” She replied, before returning to the match. Callan summoned the next Pokémon.

Obstagoon again… Or is it? Elinor pondered. SCARY FACE was enacted. Given how common that move was, she couldn’t deduce whether that was Zoroark in disguise or the real Obstagoon. If it was Obstagoon, Drain Punch would be the answer. But if it wasn’t it would be completely ineffective.

“Kaleo don’t give it an inch to work with! SPRINGTIDE STORM!” Elinor pointed towards the Obstagoon as she commanded Kommo-o confidently.

With one palm over the other, leaving just a tiny space in between, did the Kommo-o summon a small pink ball of faery energy. It swirled powerfully between his palms before he threw it at the Obstagoon. Whenever it would hit something, be it the ground or Obstagoon, the sphere would burst into a tornado of the self-same faery energy.

But he as his trainer commanded. He would not let the Obstagoon gain ground. He charged around the side of the Obstagoon, aiming for an approach from the back while the Obstagoon would surely be too busy dodging the SPRINGTIDE STORM. Alas, he could feel how his legs had been weighted by the SCARY FACE, and so his speed was definitely decreased, combined with the toll of the SPRINGTIDE STORM, and he wasn’t quite ready yet to do the double whammy. Still, a DRAIN PUNCH would be coming as soon as he could.

TLDR:

- Kommo-o uses SPRINGTIDE STORM as a diversionary attack
- Kommo-o tries to flank Obstagoon and readies a DRAIN PUNCH as quickly as it can.

Obstagoon does not dodge the Springtide Storm, instead, intentionally choosing to get struck by the attack. A whirl of pink fairy energy bursts forth, swirling around it as it takes super effective damage. It is weakened, significantly, but in return it's ATTACK and SPECIAL ATTACK dramatically increase, doubling his power due to WEAKNESS POLICY.

Then came the true attack, thanks to the slower speed, the Obstagoon manages to slip past the strike due to its approaching strike, sliding to the side of the Kommo-O, it charges itself with NORMAL TYPE energy, bulleting forwards, shoulder firsst into KOMMO-O's soft belly into a DOUBLE-EDGE, which is further boosted in power thanks to his RECKLESS ABILITY. If it struck, it would hurt, painfully, if not knock out Kaleo if it was not carefully responded to.

TL;DR:
+ OBSTAGOON is HIT! It's SUPER EFFECTIVE, losing 60% of HP!
+ OBSTAGOON'S WEAKNESS POLICY activates! Doubling his ATTACK and SPECIAL ATTACK.
+ OBSTAGOON'S slips the DRAIN PUNCH, using DOUBLE EDGE, empowered by STAB, the ability RECKLESS, and a +2 ATTACK MODIFIER!

Elinor watched as the move hit. It confirmed that this was the real Obstagoon. Now knowing that and acting properly upon it was two entirely different things.

Meanwhile, the battle raged on. Obstagoon dodged Kommo-o’s follow-up attack. At this range, Kommo-o couldn’t dodge it. He was too slow. But while his physical speed might’ve been slowed, his reaction hadn’t. A greenish field of PROTECT energy extended between him and the Obstagoon just in time, or so he would’ve liked to think.

But the Obstagoon broke through, its force, though considerably weakened now, definitely packed a punch that even the mighty Dragon/Fighting-type could feel. But the force was nothing he hadn’t experienced before. Reminded of that time he sparred with Diancie, what punches Obstagoon could provide would be naught but Beedrill-stings in comparison.

Still, it was uncomfortable, and it certainly took some willpower to ignore the quickly growing burning pain in his belly. But he managed it somehow. Once more summoning the eerie green aura around his fists before sending the energy-hungry fist at the Up-close and personal Obstagoon.

TLDR:
- Kommo-o tries to get PROTECT up, but fails partially Has around 50% HP
- Kommo-o tries to counter attack with DRAIN PUNCH, to regain energy.

PING. The double edge is stopped by the shell of PROTECT from Kommo-O the force unbalances the Obstagoon, momentarily breaking it's Crossed Arms as the Kommo-O follows up with a DRAIN PUNCH.

The blow lands, and it is QUADRUPLE EFFECTIVE, instantly knocking out Callan's Obstagoon.

Callan holds still, calling back his Obstagoon for a moment, and smiles. "Time." He calls out, holding a T between his palm and fingers. "I call this league official match to be over."

Returning Obstagoon to its Pokeball, he briefly pats the top of its red sphere, "Well done Flea." He replied, before moving over to Elly and Kommo-O. He wanted to kiss her, and congratulate her fully, but not yet, there was still one last section for him to do.

"Congratulations Elly." He grins, "You are the first to have successfully completed the gym challenge, and have earned the STARK BADGE." Callan slowly draws out a small leather case from his pocket, sheen black, with rich gold lining in the form of the Pokemon League logo atop it.

He opens the case.

Within, an aquamarine-grey colored opalescent gemstone, polished to a mirror sheen, shaped into two double edged waves, symmetrically bound together with solid gold. "Take it, it's yours."

There was just one last thing he needed to do, after she took the badge: assessment.

It somehow worked. The combination of defense and offense, mixed together in a beautiful symphony allows Kommo-o to survive long enough for it to deal a finishing blow.

The Obstagoon hit the ground, unconscious. Callan retrieved the Pokémon and called time on the match.

Kommo-o sighed in relief. With the adrenaline no longer pumping through its veins, it began to feel the effects of the battle. Still, it returned to Elinor’s side, pleased with itself.

“You did good, Kaleo.” She patted it on its head. To which it began to make a lizard-like rumbling, which she could only describe as a purr. “Now, rest.” She retrieved the Kommo-o’s Pokéball and retrieved it back into the comforting sphere. Before turning her attention to Callan.

A look of surprise washed over her as he spoke. “Really? I am the first one?” She sounded almost in disbelief, as she went over to Callan to get the aquamarine-grey opalescent gemstone badge. Having relieved him of the badge, there was only one last thing to do. And it was often the hardest thing to do or rather hear, and that was the assessment. But she knew it was an important thing nonetheless.

"Just a few things dear." Callan began, watching Elly take the badge from the case. He half expected her to raise it in the air and pose.

"While you had a rough start, I think by the end of the match, you managed to pull off several impressive responses. I will write a report later on in the gym badge area, and put it as an example. If you don't have any concerns, that is." Callan made a mental note of how he phrased his words. For a moment there was no Rock Star or Ranger in him.

"I would like to see more attention to your opponent's Pokemon. When my Obstagoon used Nasty Plot and performed Extrasensory, that should have been an immediate sign that it was an illusion. This may be due to a lack of knowledge of Zoroark. Luckily however, you rectified that, and so I won't hold it against you. In your future gym battles, and especially, during high risk situations where your own life or your Pokemon's life are at risk, it's important that you manage to hold that level of attention."

Callan paused. "But, there are a few things that I do think you did exceptionally well this gym fight." He raised a finger into the air, "First, you picked up on Cinderace using Libero, recognized that your Lurantis was a bad matchup, and then switched in Kaleo with the Bulletproof ability to gain the advantage."

He raised his second finger, "Then you predicted and counteracted the use of my acrobatics, using my own Pokemon's ability against me. I liked that a lot." Callan smiled, "That showed significant growth during the match, and I hope, at the very least, this leaves you with a better understanding of Pokemon battles. Take the training you have with you in this match into your next gym challenges, and I'd wager they will become easier." Callan squeezed her shoulder. "Congrats hun."

Elinor turned her attention from the shining batch she had just acquired and to Callan who was about to give feedback on their match. An important part of the Gym Challenge, and so she listened with open ears and an even more open mind.

“I have no concerns at all,” Elinor assured Callan. Allowing him to use her performance as he saw fit.

And so Callan continued. He reminded her of the rocky start that she had had. She nodded acknowledging the feedback. The challenge provided had not been what she expected, and her lack of knowledge certainly came to the forefront there. Luckily, what she lacked in the knowledge she had in intuition.

And so Callan continued to speak of the good points that she showed during the match, the growth that she showed. All in all, it seemed she had done fairly well. And she could walk away from this match a better trainer, just as she had hoped.

And then Callan squeezed her shoulder. She returned the favor in kind as she replied. “Thank you.”
