The streets are filled with such colours, scarlet bandanas fluttering through the air as a Luxray bounds through the alleys with captain in tow. He yowls a little in response, garnering laughter from her as he hops and slips his way through the crowd. And soon enough, he's hot on the tail of their runaway bounty!

"Stop right there, matey Mars!!" She yells, hanging on tight as Reiner leaps at the poor man. "Who said you could run off without helping the Halla crew in taking over the beach!!"

He had planned to leave. In fact, when he hears her, he’s on the way out of the beach, fully intending to step off the sand and head back to Mauville Hills. Her voice makes him pause. He recognizes it before even turning around, and a slight smirk tugs at his lips by the time he does turn and see exactly what he had expected to see: Eris Halla on her Luxray’s back.

”You should have let me go, Captain Halla…” He says in the most dramatic tone possible, immediately playing along. His gaze meets that of the little girl, and he doesn’t even have to try to smile for one to naturally illuminate his expression. ”You see… This is now mutiny.”

It’s then that POG Bank’s ever so illustrious CEO tackles the Luxray onto the sand, laughing and petting Reiner’s mane when he does as much.

It takes a second for her brain to process that, but one second is all it takes for things to go horribly wrong. With a quick-thinking tackle, Reiner finds himself tumbling. And with him, Eris is thrown right into the sand too.

"Traitor!!" She yells, giggling as she tries her best to wriggle free of the Luxray heavy body. Reiner, on the other hand, is perfectly content with where he is, accepting the pats with a low growl whilst his tail flicks sand everywhere. "You'll pay for this!!"

And oh, shall she deliver on her threats. When she finally wriggles her way out, she's readily jumping at Mars again, tickling at his sides without a shred of mercy!

Onto the sand they go, grains of gold and brown spraying all around and drawing the attention of people nearby. Mars doesn’t care, though. Things like those are of no importance, and even if they were, everyone soon loses interest when hearing the kid laughing and having fun.

Which apparently involves her trying to get her revenge…

”Ha! Not if I get you first!” He laughs, half due to the effects of her merciless tickling and half because of how ridiculous it all is, but even if he laughs, he still manages to retaliate with his own attempt at tickling Eris.

There’s not a lot of people in the portion of the beach where they are, and up in the skies, the darker tones of twilight begin to overtake, a firework show having been prepared for this particular night.

"T- truce!! I call a truce!" She barely manages to sputter out amidst the laughter and wriggling. "Mars!! Reiner, stop him!!"

And despite her orders, the Luxray betrays her in a way, carefully snagging her by her coat and pulling her away from the pile. But perhaps, it's for the best, as her attention quickly flickers from playful annoyance at the feline to the quiet crackling of fuses in the distance.

Then come the fireworks, whistling loud and clear as they rush up into the darkening sky and explode into colourful flowers. Her gaze traces every arc, every little spark that illuminates the starry night. It's loud but it's quiet all the same, and she falls silent as the flowers in the sky bloom beautifully red.

”Yeah! Get her, Reiner!” Mars exclaims with a laugh, as if the Luxray weren’t already doing just that. The joyous sound soon fades to no more than a chuckle, and when the noise made by fireworks being lit overtakes, he finds himself to be completely silent.

He sits on the sand by Eris’ side, watching flowers of flame bloom in Slateport’s darkened skies.

It’s a beautiful sight.
[break][break]
”Oh. Eris, look at that one!” He says just as a particularly loud firework explodes, pointing towards the light that promise to make for a huge image among the other blooms.

It all has a nostalgic tone to Mars, bringing forth fond memories of days long past but also being the birth of new ones. Memories with someone who has come to be of importance in his life. That's Eris Halla.

It's pretty, she can't deny that. But it's a beautiful sight that digs up so many memories she isn't quite ready for. The hope back then, the life she lives now? Many things in her world have changed but she's still here - Alive and kicking, sharing the memories with someone incredibly close to her heart.

Fireworks are meant for celebration, and even though Mars wouldn’t even be able to count the amount of times he has seen them in his life, some of those moments are linked to a few of his happiest memories. Some of the best events of his life.

Would his son have liked watching the fireworks too?

The thought dwells in his mind even as he points towards the skies, where lights take the form of pokémon. First a Popplio and then a Litten. It’s adorable, and Mars forces himself to remember that that’s what matters the most: the here, the now, and not ‘what if’s that may never come to be.

Quietly, he sighs, and yet a faint smile remains tugging at his lips. A hand is placed on Eris’ head, gently rustling her blonde hair as he has done so many times since the day they met.

Even so, she can still cherish the little bits of sweetness that they provide, the gentle purring of Reiner as he nuzzles up against her, the little head pat that reminds her that she's different but still the same Eris she's always been.
