Eyes like midnight can only confirm that the identity eludes him, not that knowing would make a difference. Awareness is simply a commodity, and whether he preferred to act with it, he could do without.

Kubfu seems less self-assured as the tournament goes on, not that he blames the little tyke; back-to-back matches must be more exhausting than their typical training, but the experience is invaluable to them all the same.

Kubfu would just have to endure. Despite striking a lethal pose, the stern slant of its brow weighs heavier with worry than aggression staring down this opponent whose reach and speed far outstrips its own abilities. Tch.

Determination could only ever get you so far. Kubfu required something more.

the small cub reminds lucario of king's own, and the dozens of hours of personal tutelage he'd given the psuedo-legendary. in time, it'd grown and evolved, reaching a point that even xen had trouble keeping up with.

it gave him a measure of pause, to face one again. only this time, this was no training arena. he'd give his opponent every measure of respect it was due.

Kubfu manages to evade the attack, but the shards of stone that splinter and scatter in the aftermath would leave welts where they pelted against its side. With a wince Kubfu regains its lost composure, subsequently falling into a headlong rush in order to close the gap between contestants.

It's not ignorant to the challenge fighting toe-to-toe with Lucario poses, but it doesn't stand a chance fighting from afar. Just another daunting realization as it clashes against this quality contender. Flinging itself with a skyward lunge, Kubfu seeks to overwhelm Lucario with a spontaneous fit of its REVENGE.

lucario's given enough time to prepare, though not adequately enough for its own standards. the REVENGE lashes out with an impressive force behind it, catching lucario in the center of his 'x' shaped cross-guard.

the force isn't enough to leverage him from his spot, but he grunts in appreciation for the blunt-forced trauma his forearms had just gone through.

using the distance, now provided to him by the kubfu, he wraps his fist in a blinding milky-silver light, a METEOR MASH aimed center mass.

Suffering a series of devastating blows, Kubfu is thrown back against the cement, where it receives a harsh roadrash from the brief altercation with Lucario. It swipes its forearm against its muzzle, spitting something out to the side after. It's exactly what Kubfu expected, and yet...

...That feeling a moment ago was euphoric. It relishes that sensation.

Not the bone-rattling strike, but the moment where Lucario was for a moment whelmed. Where Kubfu's might had amounted to more than some meager success, but something profound. Impressive in the face of adversity. Adrian encourages it from the sidelines. Another feeling that it craved.

Mustering its resolve, Kubfu feels itself BULK UP as it tries to grow from their clash, ignoring the biting pain of injury for the fervor of intense battle.

Lucario kicking off the arena floor incites the same response in Kubfu.

With both of them rushing in at once, they close the gap in the blink of an eye. Kubfu's diminutive form holds itself surreptitiously in its gait, making it uncertain whether it is poised to strike with its legs or its arms; even as their collision is imminent it betrays no bias or lean.

Kubfu holds back from matching their blow, throwing a feint in order to duck around the comparatively sweeping blows of its opponent before retaliating.

the feint, combined with the blow, sends the lucario surprisingly, near the edge of the arena. he grunts, releasing a large exhale of breathe, and a thin trail of smoke rises from the spot of impact.

Kubfu hasn't yet learned to match such elegant speed, but it's an agile approach that mesmerizes as much as it forces one to tunnel on the blurred motions rapidly approaching it. Kubfu almost doesn't muster a response.

Mere inches from devastation, Kubfu's INNER FOCUS kicks in. It ducks with the blow, unable to evade it, but perhaps mitigating the efficacy of their strike's otherwise perfect alignment. And then a balled fist lashes out—

DYNAMIC PUNCH

The user gains +20 to their second column, and the opponent's first and last columns lose -10 and are switched for this knock out round.

lucario's own INNER FOCUS takes over as his strike lands, and he too moves in action against his opponent's DYNAMIC PUNCH. such a hit would be detrimental to the fight, so he spends considerable effort into spinning with his attack, his other foot kicking the kubfu's wrist to the right, forcing it off course.

he lands gracefully, but doesn't linger in the same spot for longer than a breathe. his muscles expand, filling with energy, as he releases a powerful series of CLOSE COMBAT blows.

Kubfu's body collapsed against the arena, bouncing against the cement as it blacked out. After trading blows with Lucario it had been found wanting, and yet it had made every effort that it might amount to something more...[break][break]

Tired claws reach out for a foothold upon the gritty terrain, but it found no such purchase on its faculties, forced to struggle as it tried to push itself back up. Somewhere a voice cried out that it had been beaten, but somewhere in its heart, Kubfu refused to admit that... to itself... to its opponent. Losing was NEVER an option for it.

Too long had they toiled, training to make it to this point. And for every measure of its efforts, the sweat on its brow, the tremble in its limbs-for all that it had endured to finally reach this height of combat, to feel the exhiliration of martial arts—only to be denied here and now...[break][break]

Kubfu refused to be cast aside as mere cannon fodder.[break][break]

Kubfu found it in itself to rise back to its full height, aching to the bone as its trembling form struggled even to keep itself upright as it attempted to continue the fight, however futile. If it stopped here it would not be able to pick itself back up when it mattered most, when lives were on the line. Knowing this, Kubfu was forced to challenge its RESOLVE...[break][break]

With a haggard cry of defiance, Kubfu provoked Lucario's attention back to it before surging with renewed might.[break][break]

Kubfu could feel its energy returning to it as waves of infinity energy washed over it, a telltale glow building up as its silhouette became entirely bioluminescent from the transformation that now took hold of it: EVOLUTION.[break][break]
