Turning to run, the two of them manage to evade the pokemon. It seemed to realize they weren't looking for a fight. Continuing on their way, Derek made sure to keep an eye on their surroundings, especially their flank.

Derek retreats behind a rock when he notices it. The Unown that floats about in rhytmic pattern turns, hearing the little bit of gravel shifting beneath the gym leader's feet. He turns to look for Jonesy, but he isn't there. Derek grows worried, as the last time this happened was during one of those distortions.

Was that going to happen again?

No. Instead the Sobble crawled around, popping up behind the Unown and smacking it down with a SUCKER PUNCH followed by a U-TURN to dodge the Unown's hidden power attack.

Derek comes running out from behind cover, using his mysterious device to log it into the Unown Report before clicking pokeball to secure the Unown. Jonesy was given a big squeeze, and he'd definitely be getting treated to whatever he wanted for awhile...
