Melody had seen that there were classes available in Petalburg city, a beginners one for learning how to care for plants. She had been feeling a bit dejected as of late, thankful that she was free of Madeleine's influence but now she was lost. [break][break]

her drive for music was gone. [break][break]

She had free time as there wasn't much for her to do before Dahlia's plan for the meteor as they had all the preparations covered so she decided to do something calming. Plant care was calming, right? Her Mr. Rime accompanied her on this little trip, as she looked around for the one leading the class. What was her name? Elis..elisa. OH OH, Elisabeth![break][break]

She looked around, realizing the name couldn't really help her unless she knew what the woman's appearance was and this garden was pretty dense.

"...so I am certain that with everyone's efforts, the community garden will be a success."

Public speaking wasn't her preferred choice of pastime, but Elisabeth knew how to maintain a manicured smile when the situation called for it.

A local butterfly garden was being erected by the Petalburg Community Club -- mostly, bored women of a certain age looking for a way to pass the time -- resulting in this brief lesson in gardening. To her dismay, the reputation that Elisabeth had been quietly building for herself in the woods outside the city had gotten her roped into the matter.

Which she couldn't refuse, without looking like an aloof, unpleasant, witch of a woman. Although, in many ways, that's exactly who Elisabeth was. And why she felt obligated to prove otherwise.

Annoying.

Potted stalks of milkweed, pansies, daisies, and clover had all been brought from her flower shop, and many of those volunteers gathered had already begun digging holes for the plants. Elisabeth's Dugtrio, Douglas, had come from her own gardens to assist with ROTOTILLER as her Shaymin perched on her shoulder, overseeing the garden with a regal air.

"Ah," Elisabeth said, seeing Melody Miro wander in late. "Did you want to assist in the event, also?"

Once more, she offered a polite smile, one that suggested an agreeableness that she did not presently feel.

"Oh uh." she says hesitating for a moment processed that the woman was speaking to her directly. "Oh! Yes!" she says suddenly [break][break]

"I uh, came to lend my help but...i'm pretty hopeless with raising plants, I somehow killed a succulent..so I was hoping someone could teach me how to care for plants." she shares with the woman. [break][break]

"Oh where are my manners, I'm Melody, Melody Miro." she says extending her hand over to shake hands with the woman "Miss Elisabeth right? I saw you were the teacher and people really love your flower shop online. from what I've seen." the sound of tapping next to her reminded her that she brought a friend with her "Oh and this is my Mr. Rime. I call him tappy sometimes."

"...You killed a succulent?"

Elisabeth's green eyes blinked slowly, considering this information, as she stared at a woman who might be more terrifyingly lethal than any killer she'd spent time with at Rocket Headquarters.

How on earth did you manage to kill a succulent?

She cleared her throat, realizing suddenly her silence was rude. "I'm sorry. Where are my manners." She took Melody Miro's hand in hers, shaking it firmly. "Yes, I am Elisabeth. This is Douglas, my Dugtrio. He's a bit busy, I'm afraid. A pleasure to meet you though, Miss Miro, and you too, Tappy."

Only then did the recognition dawn: The Elite Four's Melody Miro. Musical sensation, former captive of Rocket, powerful trainer in her own right and esteemed member of the League.

When the contact of their hands broke away, Elisabeth found herself standing slightly straighter, as if realizing she was in no position to be at ease. Pink-hair and radiant smile aside, Melody was a dangerous woman to get on the wrong side of.

And Elisabeth was nothing if not cautious with dangerous new individuals.

"We'll keep it simple, then," she said, handing a gardening shovel to the pink-haired woman with a pair of gloves, indicating for her to wear the latter. "Can you dig in the soil a small hole, large enough for this daisy here?"

She gestured to the potted white flower nearby, where a Cutiefly was snoozing happily on its petals.

"...Yes.." she says as her face became a slightly pinker shade of red as her embarrassment grew with each passing moment that the silence lingered. [break][break]

Elizabeth broke the awkwardness when she introduced herself and Melody went in for the handshake as well. "Ah! A dugtrio! What a cutie, look at him go!" she said putting her hands over her mouth as how adorable the little pokemon worked so diligently to help out with the garden. However she did notice Elisabeth's stiffness but made no comment on it just yet. Did she figure out who melody was? [break][break]

However to address it would make it even more awkward so she just simply followed Elisabeth's instructions. She placed the gloves on and looked to reach for the small gardening shovel as she began to dig a hole. It was a little difficult for her at first. "Damn the earth is tough." she comments as her Mr. Rime sat by and didn't help her. To which she gave him an annoyed stare as he simply tried to encourage her with his insistent tapping of his heels. "How did you learn to care for plants Miss Elisabeth?" she says turning her gaze over back to Elisabeth as she continued to try and dig deeper.

Douglas was a very diligent Dugtrio. When he saw the difficulty that Melody Miro was having with the soil, he used ROTOTILLER helpfully, nudging the work along so that the woman had very little work ahead of her.

Elisabeth raised an eyebrow at her Pokémon -- for this was not very helpful in a gardening lesson -- but in the end just shook her head and smiled. The Mr. Rime meanwhile seemed less interested in the proceedings, doing nothing to help his poor trainer.

"Ah, I fell into it fairly young, I suppose," she admitted, kneeling next to her as she put on gloves of her own. Patiently, she began to prune out some small weeds that were in the way of the digging and re-planting efforts.

"My mother had a flower garden growing up that she was very fond of. We had imported Galarian roses, and she'd show me how to take care of them. I've also always been fond of Grass-type Pokémon, and they have similar principles of care. My Roselia, for example, was once a very fussy Budew."

She laughed slightly at the memory of the whiny sprout Pokemon, then turned to Melody. "And you? Why the sudden interest in finding out if you have a green thumb?"

Or numb thumb, considering the succulent business...

"I see." the mention of Elisabeth and her mother bonding over their mutual love of plants was something that melody was rather envious of. [break][break]

Or should she be? Melody's mother, if she could even call her that, was a wicked woman. Her only hobby was living through melody and torturing her. "Well I think that's a rather beautiful origin story." she tells Elisabeth. [break][break]

She went on to ask Melody why her sudden interest in plant care all of a sudden. It was true, she hadn't really before, just an appreciation for those who put so much time and effort into proper care for plants. "I- Uh. Well." she couldn't just waltz up to elisabeth and trauma dump on the poor woman so she spared her any serious details. "Lets just say a recent event opened my eyes as to the fact I don't really know who I am." she says leaving it WAYYYY too vague. [break][break]

"So I'm trying to figure that out? I suppose? Thought this was also a nice way to give back to the community honestly."

"Do you think so?" Elisabeth replied, considering the thought. "I like to think she'd be pleased to see how I've taken to it, at least. My mother passed away a long time ago."

Other aspects of Elisabeth life would not be so well-received by her parents. Her life as a Rocket admin, specifically.

Mothers, perhaps, were always doomed to be complicated subject matter. No matter the exact reason.

As for Melody's explanation for her foray into gardening, Elisabeth offered a wry smile. "There are worse ways to find yourself, I think. Gardening has always centered me in difficult times."

Douglas enthusiastically popped up out of the soil as the florist spoke, scattering little bits of dirt onto the Mr. Rime as he did so. She fixed him with a mildly disapproving look, and all three heads of the Dugtrio bowed in embarrassment.

"I think nurturing life can be a good way of distracting from the ways in which our own lives are, shall we say, overgrown with weeds and pests. What else have you tried, if you don't mind my asking?"

She freezes when she realizes that Elisabeth's mother was no longer with them. It made her feel bad for even mentioning it at all. However thankfully, the comic relief that her Dugtrio provides was a perfectly timed
She chuckles lightly at Mr. Rime's misfortune, choosing to return the Pokémon to it's pokeball. [break][break]

if he wasn't gonna help he may as well just rest. [break][break]

Melody turns back to Elisabeth as she continues to try and prep the ground more as she now focuses on answering Elisabeth. "So far? Throwing myself into my work. Both in music and in league duties." she says as she stabs the ground a little harder as frustration flashes on her face. [break][break]

"Let's just say neither is going well for me either at the moment."

Elisabeth's eyebrows raised perceptively, her natural curiosity reflected in her green eyes as Melody Miro admitted her frustrations aloud. An unexpectedly frank admission from one of the Elite Four of Hoenn, to be sure.

It was probably better not to pry, but Elisabeth was not always in the habit of doing sensible things.

Once something attracted her notice, the topic was caught in her mind as if ensnared in an Ariados's web, where Elisabeth couldn't resist crawling out to inspect whatever had captured her attention.

"Are both frustrating you for the same reason?" she ventured, her gloved hands reaching for a bag of fertilizer to sprinkle among the flowerbeds. "Or are you unlucky enough that your duties and your passions are just both dissatisfying at the same time?"

Her Dugtrio shuffled the fertilizer into the soil with ease, oblivious to the conversation at hand.

"They were separate at first, but when you're high up in the league they start to bleed into one another." she shares as Elisabeth quickly grew to be a confidant. [break][break]

"I find myself unable to separate my personal life which fueled my music with my work life. Without my music it's starting to affect my emotions and my judgements in situations apparently." she comments as she starts to dig a little harder as she shoved the spade into the ground as her annoyance grew. [break][break]

"And somehow it's all apparently my own fault." she says raising the spade up into the air and slamming it into the ground suddenly. She realizes what she did before she immediately lightens her expression [break][break]

"Oops." she says dropping the spade and awkwardly laughing. "Got a bit carried away...let's just say I've learned hoenn is full of people who are awful and it's tainted my outlook on life."

Gardening required extensive patience, and that trait was something Elisabeth possessed in spades. She listened, unhurried and unrushed, as Melody Miro let out her frustrations, while Elisabeth silently guided her to consider taking them out by yanking on the weeds nearby. It could be cathartic, in her own experience.

Certainly as much as the way the spade slammed into the ground, at least.

"That can be difficult," Elisabeth agreed with a sigh. "When your work life and your personal pleasures become one and the same. Floristry has been something like that for me, although at present, I have not minded the two being intertwined."

Elisabeth had done her research on Melody Miro, as she had on many of the League officials in Hoenn; the music-based gym that the woman had once been known for came to mind, and Elisabeth could imagine the stresses that combination could cause. As an Elite Four, that entanglement was harder to imagine, but she didn't doubt it existed.

"Awful people exist everywhere, unfortunately." She paused, considering her next words, before choosing to ultimately voice them aloud: "Do you think they're right to say things are your fault? Or are they merely trying to guilt you for things they themselves don't want to take responsibility for?"

Melodys thoughts were never allowed to be very deep, most of the time they were shallow to prevent her from ever becoming saddened by the realization of situations...but this time, that safety feature had been disabled.[break][break]

The question resonates with Melody. "It feels like the second one... I guess?" she says as she puts the spade into the ground and leaves it there, staring at it as she spoke. "I didn't have anything to do with what Olivia Abiatti did in the past...yet someone blamed me for her actions and said it reflects on me cause of it..." she says referencing her gym encounter with Cillian Quinn. "Of course I'm not responsible for her actions...but it still hurt.. Someone once told me, that rocket isn't full of bad people, and not everyone in the league is good..so then why are rocket and league even fighting..they both should purge those who give them bad images.. forge a peaceful resolution" as scenes of Chu-e Choi 's interactions flash in her mind as well. [break][break]

"But I don't ever think that'll be possible." she says realizing she went off on a tangent and her face turned extremely pink and her gaze shifted up towards Elisabeth. "Sorry, I got a bit side tracked huh.."

Elisabeth did not think Melody Miro was a shallow or thoughtless person.

Most people, in her experience, had more turmoil than one might expect simmering beneath the surface of the persona they wore. It was one reason that the florist herself was so often wary of others, and why she trained herself not to underestimate people who seemed soft, delicate, or unassuming like she herself deceptively appeared.

Women like her, and by extension Melody Miro, were too often underestimated. Despite the fact that the latter was a member of the Elite Four.

Her gaze slid down to the spade half-buried in the ground, mulling over the matter.

"Not everyone deserves the power to hurt you, Miss Miro." A lesson Elisabeth herself had learned in the most painful of ways, and one whose truth she still had not entirely managed to accept. "You seem to be a capable woman. You'd have to be, to accomplish all you have in the League. Your word should hold more weight in your own mind than the words of those who do not truly know you."

For a moment, Elisabeth's gloved hand hesitated, briefly contemplating offering the other woman a touch of reassurance. Ultimately she refrained, feeling too uncomfortable expressing such physical sentiments with an almost-stranger so soon.

Particularly given the direction that their conversation went next.

"Do you want peace between Rocket and the League?" Elisabeth asked, genuinely curious. She thought such a thing to be far-fetched -- hatreds ran too deep on both sides of this factional conflict, she well knew -- although her own loyalty to Rocket was less ideological in nature and more a matter of personal preferences.

Someone like her didn't do well with leaders who touted their own goodness. She didn't trust them.

And Elisabeth herself had stopped being 'good,' to her mind, a long time ago.

"What do you think the biggest obstacle is to achieving that peace? You'd know better than I."
