Continue on her path? What path? Doing what was expected of her in Rocket? Studying the crystablooms?

Elisabeth blinked, utterly baffled and flattered in equal measure by his easy suggestion as continued talking.

She wasn't used to being thought highly of, not in that manner. As had told her once, she was a woman who thrived on being underestimated. To be seen as someone with the potential to hold power was...

Her hands cradled the received crystabloom heart awkwardly in her palm, gaze sliding down to view its jewelled facets in quiet contemplation.

Was it wrong, that she wanted his words to be true? That she wanted to be someone who could know what it felt like to be invincible?

"I wonder," she said finally, as if unsure how readily she should admit her hopes even to someone who seemed so sure on her own behalf.

Hopes were dangerous. They bred expectations, and expectations bred disappointments.

Better to expect nothing.

Better to give up hoping.

Still, a small seed had taken root in her, daring to imagine otherwise.
