Blurred vision didn't make it easy to perceive, but he could tell he'd came to consciousness on a beach shore. "Where...?" He croaked, throat dry with dehydration. There was another figure in the surf, a few feet from himself. "Hey, you alive?" Rowan remembered now who he'd been traveling with, before the storm hit.[break][break]

Crawling across the sands, he reached a hand out towards his fellow Beast, attempting to shake her awake. "Wake up, Lex." He coughed, still attempting to gather information on their surroundings.

Her diaphragm convulses, a violent movement and brings up a considerable amount of seawater as she coughs and hacks as she turns to the side to face Rowan. Her lungs hungrily demand air. She can’t speak not until she done taking a few gasping breaths to replenish the lost oxygen.

Holy hell, she’s never getting on a boat again.

The Beast groans, shifting to push herself up onto her knees. Slowly, her mind starts to put the pieces together. Another fit of coughs brings up another spray of seawater, “Fuck,” Is all she can manage to say. Lex sits back on her heels, a wave washing over her feet, “Where are we?” her voice is hoarse from the water, accentuated by a growl that spells out her frustration.

A quick glance about the horizon didn't spot any nearby landmasses or island chains, only ocean and skyline. "Don't suppose you brought a flying Pokémon with you?" He took stock of his own Pokéballs, water-types but none that would help without a bearing. Getting lost at sea was far deadlier than being washed up on an island, at least here there could be water and food. [break][break]

"We need to find some shelter." The sun was beginning to creep down over the sky, nightfall coming soon. "I'd rather not be exposed at night, who knows what could be out here." Rowan looked to the dense jungle that lead to the center of the island, fully aware that wild Pokémon in conditions like these were opportunists, and often carnivores.

Lex knew it. She should have never gotten on that stupid fucking boat with him. Now she’s stuck on a god forsaken island.

At the mention of pokemon, she shoots up as if she was bit in the ass by an Ekans. Her hands quickly fly to her belt, fingertips gently tracing over the sphere clipped there.

One, two, three, four, five, six . . .

She sighs in relief, slumping over as she settled on her knees, “Of course,” though not necessarily known for flying-types, Aubie was one of her signature pokemon. A free hand unclips the first pokeball, expanding it before releasing the Braviary onto the sand.

The screech he gives off in surprise is deafening. Even lex winces at the sound. The eagle’s beak snaps shut and gently nudges the side of his trainer. She uses the momentum to rise to her feet, inspecting their surroundings. In the sea, she abandoned her jacket in favor of not being weighed down to the abyss by it. The breeze that over them from the sea reminded her night would also mean a chill.

“Yeah, sure,” she turns to the Braviary, “Find us some help, will ya,” she turns around to guess which direction is towards the Hoenn mainland, “Go uhhh that way,” she points in the completely wrong direction.

A small chuckle escaped his lips, looking around the shore for a moment. "Almost like someone wants us to be forced to spend some time together." That was ridiculous, however. It wasn't like Arceus wanted them to be friends, he doubted the Pokémon even cared. "We should move inland, we'll make a fire tomorrow to signal passing vessels." [break][break]

Trudging up the beach was one hell of a task after nearly drowning, but before long the two would enter the thick trees of the jungle. The sounds of wildlife were all around, echoing off the great palms that made up the landscape. "Here." A hand reached to the Pokéball on his hip, releasing the Kabutops inside. "Clear us a path." He asked of the Pokémon, who quickly went to task. "I never apologized for how the Cave of Origin went." Rowan stated out of the blue, looking over his shoulder at the woman.

Reluctantly, Lex accepted the hand to help her to her feet. If she wasn’t lightheaded from spinning through the raging sea, she would have helped herself up. She learned a while ago not to rely on others.

As she lazily attempted to brush the sand off her soaked through pants, she broke the concentration momentarily to quirk a brow at Rowan’s joke. She was obviously not amused, but without a word, she followed Rowan towards the tree line, agreeing with his assessment. Staying vulnerable on the beach likely wasn’t the best idea. She took one last look behind her to see the disappearing silhouette of the Braviary against the dark grey sky.

Arceus speed, Aubie.

Rowan draws out a Kabutops to make their journey easier. The unsettling darkness of the forest reminds her of their trip into the tree of life where they were ambushed by Kleavor, and this is fucking Hoenn: Anything can happen. She reaches to her belt to unclip another pokeball. The sphere cracks open to release a Aegislash. The ghostly shield shimmers before phasing into the shadows to travel alongside them, a phantom protector.

In a surprising turn of events, Lex cracks a smile, even letting out a bark of laughter as Rowan changes the subject to something a bit more . . . sensitive.

“That is what you want to talk about?” of all the things he could have brought up.

It’s something she should long be over. After all, she made the decision to send the Gardevoir away with them. It’s the after math that haunted her: being branded a traitor and suffering the consequences of one.
