Cyg hums a thoughtful note, looking down at her Quilava.

“Maybe a battle?” she throws out, shrugging. “You know. For tradition’s sake?”

Harley chirps in excitement.

Her Pidgeot starts a screaming war against a passing Cramorant. Eventually, it comes to blows, with the seabird pinned down and looking skyward with bulging, pleading eyes. Cyg zaps it with a Pokeball, for mercy’s sake.

his manectric is the first to bound forward, always ready for a fight. togetic also floats back up off the ground, approaching.[break][break]

a quick SHADOW BOLT sets up the pokeball to catch the crabominable.[break][break]

"who would you like to battle?"

Never one to back down from a challenge, Harley picks the perceived tougher of the two opponents, locking eyes with Matias’ Manectric. His head flame flares up, a sign of his willingness to scrap.

“That one, then,” Cyg says, pointing at the Electric-type. “C’mon, kiddo.”

She moves a short distance away, making enough room between the two of them for a sort-of-kind-of-field.

Her Pidgeot hassles a Swellow out of the trees, divebombing and pinning it down. Cyg zaps it with a Pokeball.

“Age before beauty,” she said, hands on her hips; then she grinned. “That means I go first. Smokescreen!”

Harley belches a cloud of thick, dark smoke in the Manectric’s direction.

SMOKESCREEN works both ways, so manectric remains calm even as the dark clouds surround it, hindering its vision and senses. for now, it stays put.[break][break]

matias on the other hand busies himself with tossing a pokeball at an unsuspecting timburr. it disappears into the capsule, stilling after a few seconds.[break][break]

"did you say age before beauty?"

“Yeah,” she said, “I’m going to be 30 this year.” This was followed by a forced shudder.

The dark clouds of smoke billow up and outwards. Harley dips beneath them, running in a zig-zag pattern. Strategically, he figures that if he can keep his distance from the Manectric, he could win this.

He’s never been a strategic fighter, though.

He arches his body into a c-curve, aiming a lava plume towards where he can see the Manectric’s feet. The ground shivers and heaves upwards, shot through the center with a geyser of red-hot flames, sparks kicked high enough to shoot out above the black clouds of smoke.

A Hawlucha blunders into the smokescreen and all-but-bumps into Cyg’s leg. She zaps the thing with a Pokeball, not taking her eyes off the battle.

"oh, shit. you're older than i am."[break][break]

which surprises him because she doesn't particularly look that old. nor act it, given his brief perception of who she is so far. not that it's a bad thing, of course. just surprising.[break][break]

the LAVA PLUME is quickly nullified with a HYDRO CANNON that pours out of the manectric's mouth. it turns then, tilting up to fire the HYDRO CANNON into the SMOKESCREEN, looking to hit the hawlucha not through precision but through sheer power.

“It’s probably because I’ve been tired my entire life. I've been 30 since I was, like, two."

Some days, it really feels like she has been tired since the day she was born.

The Manectric is really just doing maintenance work, it seems. It cancels out Harley’s lava plume and begins to wet down the smoke. Cyg makes a startled noise when the forceful fount of water comes shooting towards her, and the Hawlucha that had knocked against her calf.

She jumps to the side, barely staying on her feet, skidding slightly in the mud.

Harley ducks behind the Manectric, aiming a flamethrower at its rear end.

A Fletchling, another victim of the smoke, panics and flies into Cyg. She catches it out of reflex, holds it while it panics, and taps it with a Pokeball just to quiet it.

the HYDRO CANNON subsides just in time for manectric to follow the fire-type. it turns with it, watching it only to ROAR moments before the FLAMETHROWER could spill.[break][break]

in the near distance, perched atop a branch, a swoobat watches curiously.[break][break]

"if it's any consolation, you definitely don't look thirty."
